Appearance: Kiara's hair is long and black as night. It is always seen either flowing loose or in two tight braids, never anything else, even at the Reaping. Her skin is not ivory, but very pale for someone of District Eleven. Her eyes are a dark emerald; so deep they are almost black. It is impossible to tell what she is feeling through them.

Kiara was clearly built for speed. She is small and not particularly curvy. If one were to just look at her shape, she could be mistaken for younger than she is, but the guarded expression she wears contradicts that. By her face, she looks older. By her body, she looks younger.

Her legs are long as to carry her fast through the orchards of her district. Many who know her agree that if she were to become a dreaded Hunger Games tribute, speed would be her greatest advantage.

Personality: Kiara is vigilant. She notices things other people don't, yet she is guarded and watchful because of it.

Kiara seems to have lost the skill of friendship, but she does not care. She has all the friends she needs within herself and two of her best friends from childhood, Cadence and Ember.

It is normal if Kiara is untrusting of you; abnormal if she has not. Kiara hesitates to put her trust into anyone who is not close to her already. Because of this, her secrets stay safe, but her mind is lonely.

Kiara knows how to turn on the charm if needed, but rarely ever has to. She is clever and cunning and knows how to survive on her own, but still uses the comfort of parents and family as a cover; a sanctuary.

Kiara does not know this, and most likely she never will, but her mother, who is the spitting image of her, originally came from District Twelve, running away after a coal mine accident killed both of her parents. There, she met Kiara's father, and had two children.

But this is not a biography of her; rather, it is about Kiara herself.

Kiara was not always as guarded and secretive as she is now. Until a mere three years ago, she was a carefree, happy child. The Hunger Games were far away from her, as she was not yet twelve, and she could play and laugh and learn with the rest of her peers.

Then, the last year before her name was to be entered in the reaping, everything changed.

Kiara had one brother, Colton, who was always very protective of his little sister and made sure everything was easy enough for her. That year, he had his name in the Reaping thirty-four times, just to get food on the table for Kiara's hungry family. That year had been particularly bad in terms of harvest; it had pretty much failed, and the crop had been only one third the amount of last year's. Needless to say, the Capitol was punishing them, and even though Kiara was only eleven, she knew what it meant to be starving.

And the unthinkable happened; Colton's name was drawn. He was officially a tribute in the dreaded Hunger Games.

It had been a tearful farewell; nobody said it, but Kiara was fearful she would never see her brother again.

When the Games started, Colton made a splash in the Capitol, and Kiara watched every minute of it. He played the role of the likable yet tough lower district teen, cracking jokes here and there. He immediately had the audience and, Kiara and her family hoped; enough sponsors to get him through the rough spots.

For a while, it looked as if Colton might actually win. Kiara's brother was a burly fifteen year old with plenty of physical strength. When he held a knife, it was like a sword blade in his hand. He could even chuck a spear pretty far.

He made it to the final three, facing two Careers from Districts One and Four. Kiara was forced to watch as he was stabbed to death with his own knife, stolen from his belt by a swift Career female who was even handier with the thing than him. The canon had shot, he had been lifted up in the hovercraft.

And Kiara had spent forever mourning him.

His death changed her in a drastic way. She looked at the Hunger Games now as a terrible curse, not something so far away it was unimaginable. She was never chosen herself, but she almost hoped she would be, so she can follow in her brother's footsteps.
