We'd won. Every single bit of prize was all theirs for the taking, without any hesitation I'd rummaged through the pile turning that in which I'd wished until there were many things filling my backpack that were much better than the embarrassment of prizes that had been there before. Look at me now. The thoughts pounded through my head at full speed, blood still rushing at the speed of the fastest rivers, look at me now. No longer was I the boy who was useless, I wasn't unskilled, or unfortunate, or a burden on the gym. I was a career, a boy who'd taken someone's life, whose alliance had taken multiple lives, whose alliance had taken the wealth for themselves. I'd killed, and not only had it been a small lower districter, no, it wasn't even that small, I had killed a career.

And that was the best part, really, as blow after blow ran through the golden mess of blood, as it flew about and weapon after weapon was being thrown and launched and swung, there was me, at the center with glaive in hand killing the boy from District 4 with one steady blow, with no hesitation, it was quick and fierce, and no one could stop me. Never had I had a particular weapons prowess. There was nothing in me that was particularly good at swinging a sword at a dummy, nor launching a spear from fifty feet away, but with this glaive I'd proven that perhaps I was more than the useless boy at home, I was more than anything that I could have been imagined as. I was an eleven.

Training score didn't dictate all, but it did now. As we, the Argonauts came crashing from the bloodbath, soaked in the blood of our foes, soaked in our own blood, it was not fear that radiated from us, from me at least. It was pride, a complete and utter sense of confidence, we'd won, we were untouchable, we were the argonauts. The heroes from the giant boat who sailed across those wretched waters being torn to shreds day after day, from monsters, from villains, and yet, each of them stronger and better than the one before them, using their golden oars to traverse dangerous waters, we were the argonauts. The rivers waters intertwined and ran a deadly current that twisted and twirled near magically as it was approached. This arena looked tiny, for sure, maybe that was in order to get more blood. One could see fields at either end, and trees, but everything looked too dead to look beautiful, but soon enough that would be the case for all of us.

It was by the river that I saw her - hair mangled, face mangled, body blooded. It was the girl who'd killed Atlas. Killed Atlas, it just seemed as if that weren't possible, the words not wanting to escape my lips - but none had escaped since the bloodbath. Atlas was an argonaut, Atlas had fought along side us and tried to help but he'd been killed, dead, in one shot with a sword and here the girl stood without hardly any worry in her eye, but just sitting by the river. It was almost as if she hadn't killed him, hadn't killed a career so early on in the Games, hadn't realized the burden it'd caused, the people that would be disappointed, the family that would be trashed, hadn't realized. Some people just didn't get it, didn't get the chain of importance in the world, and she was one of them. But there was nothing one could do to educate her, some people just didn't get it.

I nudged Wednesdae lightly, the boy had been keeping up as steady pace as me, faster than most, which was a surprise considering he was from a lower District. But these were the Games, one couldn't go around underestimating them, the weaker Districts - only two Career districts had won in the past eight years, and this year would prove to be another Career winner if I had anything to say about it. "Oi, Wednesdae." The word still sounded weird, never had I ever heard someone named Wednesdae in my life, and more often than not I was sure that I was mispronouncing it, taking too long on one syllable and not paying attention to others. But there had yet to be a correction. "The little bitch." The words hissing out of my mouth, it wasn't until now I quite realized just how much I wanted her dead, she'd killed an ally, Argonauts weren't meant to die so early, without a fight, but they had and now there was punishment to pay. Blood for blood, death for death.

"I see her... She's mine!" Wednesdae runs after her before I can even pull my glaive out, pounding towards her faster than ever. I pull the glaive and harpoon out quickly and bounce after the District 9 male, he was ready for more blood as was I.

"Not a chance." I scream after him, there would be a competition for the kill and I wanted it. I wanted the kill so bad, number two. The thirst for blood was intense. I wanted it so bad. The rivers waters mask the sounds of footsteps, but no one seemed all that keen on being stealthy. The small girl from 8 comes in, I see her I think before she sees me. I never did bother learning her name despite the nine she earned in training, maybe she wasn't incompetent. Maybe she was better to the rest, but to me she was still just that little girl. With whip in hand she came down the river, how had she managed to survive the bloodbath with that, a whip, so small and pathetic and hardly did anything except leave red welts down your back. "Oi, little girl, catch." The harpoon leaves my hands quickly and lands in front of her, it wasn't even mine to begin with, there was no shame in throwing it away when I had a glaive in hand. With a nod of the head towards the girl who'd killed Atlas, Peri runs after Wednesdae, there would be a competition to the kill. "All's fair in games and blood."
