A Capitol-born life might have been more welcomed to this outspoken, colorful girl. To her, District Seven is absolutely boring, poor, and drab, and she would much rather be a Capitolite. Screw the fact that they all watch children die. Screw the fact that they're selfish and cruel, she wants to be one of them. Simply put, it's because of the living conditions in District Seven. Her family isn't exactly poor, but they're not exactly wealthy either.

They could never afford much in the way of bright new clothes or hair dye, and this always did inconvenience Yaa. Her hair - at least in her opinion - is a pointless mass of plain brown color, extending down to her mid-back in a somewhat uniform mess of waves when it decides to behave. On nice occasions she'll do her best to curl it, but it usually just ends up back in it's original position. Her hair is almost impossible to manage or style, so she usually leaves it alone.

Food doesn't come consistently, so most of Yaa's family - along with many in the District - are thin. There is no extra, just the neccessary meals. Even working as shopkeepers, nothing is abundant. Occasionally she'll help out her parents in the store, hauling around food, organizing it, stealing it whenever nobody's looking. Hiding in alleyway behind the store, munching her way through things that she couldn't otherwise have.

She holds her face up for everyone to see. A small, short nose tilted towards the sky. A defiant smirk, aimed at anyone and everyone. She's better, she's stronger, she thinks, but it's only her own belief. Her lips are usually chapped and dry, mostly because she doesn't have anything to keep them from being so. Her eyes are like her mom's, small and blue-green colored, except they are surrounded by under-eye bags, a trait that her father gave her. She's pretty, but to her it isn't enough. She craves color, she tries to stand out, to be different. But everything is limited.

Yaa is easily irritated by people around her. She thinks of herself as different, wild, uncontrollable. She's set in her opinions, but she strives to be something that nobody can predict. Control defines her only because she avoids it to an abnormal extent. Squashed forever by her parents and their beliefs and the image of what she should be, she retaliated. She retaliates against everything that isn't her own. Beliefs, orders, work; she won't listen to any if they don't belong to her. Anyone with a different opinion, anyone who tries to make her follow, she hates them all. And she'll be aggressive about it.

Not surprisingly, this rules out far too many people. Humankind itself bothers her, so she spends most of her time alone. It's not a problem; she relies on herself. She'll do whatever the hell she wants, doing everything in spite of her parents. Tell her to come home for dinner in a tone of voice that bugs her, she'll stay out till the crack of dawn. Ask her nicely, she might cooperate. It all depends on how she feels.

Every single decision is led by her emotions, guiding her through rough patches and difficult situations. A lot of the time, her decisions only lead to more trouble. It's who she is, and she has learned to love it. Drama, trouble, exhilaration; it's a part of her. It always will be. It's a constant roller-coaster. She won't listen to anything her parents try to teach her about morals and self-respect and empathy, instead working to find her own opinions.

Yaa was somewhat of a tomboy when she was younger, and she still is. She's not exactly girly, not caring much about her appearance other than her attempts at standing out. It's why her lips are chapped, why she doesn't save up for make-up, why her hair is wild. She just doesn't give a crap about her appearance, about impressing anyone. She was the child who ran around and played games, the one who wasn't afraid of mud or blood or getting her hands dirty. She was never careful, never cautious. That wasn't learned, that has always been a part of who she is. For her, everything is about the here-and-now. The future is unimaginable, some far away land that she never wants to worry about. She doesn't care much about consequences.

The Valarro family isn't terribly poor for District Seven, Yaa's parents having some of the more desirable jobs in the District. They work as shopkeepers, selling food and household necessities to those that can afford them. They don't buy many of the items themselves, though Yaa does occasionally steal something to keep for herself or share with her twin brother, Ace. Yaa has a tentative relationship with her parents. They do their best to raise her and teach her morals, but seldom does it work. They impose rules that she doesn't follow, she rebels completely. She doesn't often go home, so she spends all of her time elsewhere.

Still, others have issues with her as well. People from school don't like her for her stuck-up attitude, she hates them for not understanding her. She hates most people for not understanding her. A lot of the time, she'll be with her brother or her brother's friends. He's the only one that she really talks to openly, acting closed to most other people. Glaring at them, making snide comments. Her brother is one of the only people in the world that she gets along with, and she loves him.
