Living in District 6 Astatine is often indoors, causing her skin to be pale and sensitive. Even the few freckles that she has on her shoulders were pale. Outside she burns easily. She is small statured at 5’ 1” with a healthy weight of 122 pounds. Her hair is a dull chestnut that reaches just past her shoulders and drapes like a curtain, framing her small face. Her eyes are a misty green, almost grey, that seemed to see things others could not, which is usually her just zoning out since she has tritanopia. This means that she is predominately colorblind, not being able to see shades of violet or yellow, causing her to easily misinterpret the things she sees.

She has no visible physical scars other than a small white line just under her jaw line that she got when she was very young. Her feet are too small for her age, but she is still graceful. Her equally small hands actually come in handy with making specific, detailed measurements, markings and cuts needed for a skilled chemist or surgeon. Her legs are thinner than they should be and the muscles very weak from lack of exercise making long distance running almost an impossibility to her. Normally her clothes consist of a clean white blouse which she always makes sure is free of any stains and a long grey skirt that hides her legs and worn flats.

Astatine is always a good girl. She is quiet when others are talking and she always makes sure to follow the rules. Often times though some would wonder if she even knew how to speak since she is always so quiet. Peacekeepers especially thought this since she is always told to be good around them, so she keeps quiet so not to say anything wrong. She is often referred to as mute, which her brothers denied, saying that she has the most beautiful voice since it was so rare.

She is very smart for her age and she spends her free time studying. Her father, a chemist, is a man whom she looks up to dearly and strives to make proud. But with her nose in the books all the time she never bothered to learn physical skills, making her a liability. She makes up with that with her brains though since she never believes that she herself would ever become a Tribute in the Games.

She is always on time, granted she knows where she is going; otherwise she is directionally challenged and can never keep track of where she is or where she’s been. Despite this, making sure that she is presentable and has a clean record is what she does best since her mother died. She gets lost in thought often and cries easily, but her family always tries to keep her strong on the inside. Regardless of their efforts she still has a slight inferiority problem.

She is as meek and timid as a field mouse, she jumps at the slightest noise and often freezes with fear. The people that she looks up to are few and far between, but once she has formed a bond and trusts somebody, she never leaves them behind. Even though she knows that she is more of a burden than a help, she does whatever she can with whatever she has to keep her loved ones safe.

When Astatine was four years old her mother, a nurse, died under suspicious circumstances. She was only ever told that her mother ‘broke the rules’ and because of that she had to be on her best behavior. That left her with her father and two older brothers, Talon (24, 6’ 3”, big muscular build, clean shaven and neat brown hair) and Joule (21, 6’ 1”, slim build, scruffy blond hair and a blond chin tuff) who all love her unconditionally. She is named after an element that her father had been working with to further their knowledge of nuclear medicine when she was born. Often times her brothers call her Asta or Aste, which makes her giggle or blush since she loves the nicknames.

Living in an upper middleclass home with her father and brother Joule, she has never felt the pain of poverty or having to go hungry. That allows her to live the quiet lifestyle that she loves. She doesn’t have many friends in school since she mostly keeps to herself and out of school she almost always stays home gaining the knowledge that she needs to become smarter and more successful than her father.

She never pays much attention to the Hunger Games since no one close to her ever had to become a part of it, so she tries to ignore it for the most part. She is part of District 6, she is a brilliant mind that would change the face of research, the Capitol needed her, or at least, that’s what she thought. Neither of her brothers is young enough to be sent to the games and she doesn’t have any cousins so she never thinks about it much.

Peacekeepers intimidate her and she tends to keep her distance from them ever since a time when she was younger when one was overly friendly with her. If her brother hadn’t shown up looking for her she didn’t want to know what the large peacekeeper would have done to her thirteen year old self. Even now she feels that she has an obligation to make it up to Talon, who had received a nasty punishment for punching a peacekeeper. That made for a rather large big brother complex.
