The first night was horrible, but by dawn I was still alive. Now how was that possible?
Hm. Yes; horrible at worst. Sure, my arm was gone, but I decided to be optimistic and look on the bright side; I'm still alive. 'Course, not that I'd get much further now, since my strong arm's gone, but I guess that's where I can do some extra practice with my left hand.
Most of the bleeding had stopped, and by midmorning it just felt really numb. And itchy. God, it itched. My brain desperately sent signals to the nonexistent arm in order to find it, but it was gone. I heard somewhere that nerve cells would regrow somewhere else, like your cheek, but the thought of that made my stomach churn a bit, so I halted any further mental elaboration.
Food. I needed food. And water. I needed both, but I wasn't going anywhere today. After a few rounds with fingers vs. tree, fingers win and I chew on the bland but...chewy...at least I have something to rebuild my skin with. Lots of fiber and protein.

With that, I lean back on a tree and try to rest, hoping no one will find me too soon. If they do, well...I have a big stick!
