Trudging On...[Lions & Tigers Day 3]

The duo had trudged for what had seemed like kilo-miles for hours on end. As the day progressed, the little streams of water eventually faded away, and colorful leaves took their place. The atmosphere was festive, yet violent. The smell of rotting carcasses was somewhat masked under all of the glorious hues that were beset into the environment. The remains of the sheepish that had been so gloriously massacred by the Careers had already disappeared, but their smell hadn't.

Of course, since these two had just arrived at these trees, they had no idea as to what had occurred the previous day.

Oy.

It's pretty warm out today. I mean, it's cooler than yesterday but it was still pretty hot out. I sigh, the sweat forming on my forehead becoming no sense of relief. We have to find some shelter for tonight. Who knows what might lurk in the darkness. I haven't seen any tributes today. There could be some hiding in the forest.

I trudge through the crackling floor, my orange ensemble blending quiet nicely with the fall leaves. In normal circumstances, I'd be grinning from ear-to-ear. If I blend in, nobody can see me. But the fact that everyone's wearing the same thing leads me to believe that it's best to stand out in the arena. At least, everyone else should be noticeable. That way, avoiding or even killing them would be much easier.

Although, at the rate that we're proceeding through these games, it's much more likely that the latter option will be the more common one.

There's only eleven of us left. Ten more must die before somebody is able to escape this arena. It probably will be one of the Careers. The victor's brother isn't going to be able to survive. It's pretty obvious that the games were rigged to kill him.

A loud burst of music is heard over the silence that almost always comes hand-and-hand with night. The sky lights up with the Capitol's seal, and the obviously electronic notes are played, seemingly with an increasing volume.

"Shut up will ya... stupid anthem..."

I had to stay awake. It would be pretty important to know who died. I know that four more tributes are dead though; the cannons really are almost deafening with their blasts, signaling the stopping of a heart.

The District 5 girl appears first. Huh. I thought that she'd be able to last longer, with her bloodthirsty aura about her and all.

Then Agatha's face is revealed. I instinctively turn my head away, feeling the guilt rush through my veins.

Then, both tributes from 11 pop up. Estelle and Cole. I sigh, inhaling the warm air into my lungs. If there was anybody who really didn't deserve to die, it was the thirteen year old. Thirteen... She was the youngest...

The colors fade, everything seems to be back to normal.

But it's not. And nothing will ever be the same.

None of the people from that large, strong alliance are dead. Sure, they didn't exactly seem like the normal, stereotypical bloodthirsty career tribute, but they were much more agile than us. They're trained to kill the weak. It's likely that we'll all be wiped out before the week's end.

I gaze at the trees, the branches just above my hea-

Branches! We... We could make a fire or something... But it's warm, so I don't know what it would be for... The water perhaps? Can you even boil water through the jug? I pull out the un-purified jug from the bag, peering at it. It seems doable... I think.

"Hmm..." I murmur. I snap some branches off of the low-hanging trees, wondering how this would work.

[[gathers one bundle of firewood]]

"Hey, do you think we can boil water using this? We'll need matches though... Or flint..."

As soon as I stop speaking, I cough. My throat's extremely dry. I put the possibly bad water back and pull out one of the purified jugs, slowly sipping it until there's nothing left.

I spot some more plants nearby. This place really does have a lot of medicinal herbs. I take some and rub it onto the scabs that have erupted from my previous wounds. I think it's working. I make sure to take extra for another day
