If I Am Going To Be Drowned | Reyes & Surge ~Day 2

One minute I'm walking, and the next I'm being dragged down to hell.

It's quick, quicker than I thought it would be, and for a moment I don't realize what's going on. The sand has been so heavy on my cleats for the past few days, I've mistaken the weighted pull as "normal." I stop, panicked for split second, and in the effort of pulling myself back out again I drop my flail into the earth, where it is eaten up, yum yum, just like I'll be if I don't..

Move, move, move.

I haul my legs out of the ground. My breaths come in short gasps, and I don't allow myself to stand in one spot. I hop from space to space, over and over, searching for a solid piece of land.. where is land? Why can't anything be goddamn stable for once? Ripred, Ripred, I'll die right here and -- good lord, I can't die like this. Maybe not today after all. Or this hour. Or this very moment. Ripred, let me survive this minute..

And everything, or everything that really means anything to me except maybe the hatchet, falls.

A tree. Just right there. I still have my rope, am still trying to fling the rope around it. But it's just so far and I'm already so dead and there doesn't seem like a positive outcome here. A low growl makes its way out of my throat as I pull my feet step after step out of the sand, but there is nothing. No stability, no gentle earth, no safety.

Guess it's a good thing I'm kinda used to it.

Irony comes in the form of a naked purple boy.

I see him run at me, and I try to dodge, try to move out of the way, but this time he does actual damage to me. His axe cuts open the skin on my leg, cuts open the jumpsuit that, apart from a few areas here and there form Day One, has been unscathed. I smile, and I don't know why I'm smiling, but it's odd and I can't help it and oh lord he'll kill me right here and now. I'm weak, I'm a target. I always have been.

"I told you I didn't mean any harm!" I yell as I flail around, gripping tightly to the few items I have left. I dropped the rope, and now I have only a few --

More parachutes fall from the sky, and I leap towards them. A knife. Rope. Rope. Rope. My eyes settle over the knife, wondering why this. Do they think I'll lose my precious hatchet? Either way, I hold onto these items for dear life. Everything I own is falling around me, and I can't hold on. Why can't I hold on?

I turn, and focus my gaze on the odd purple boy. Does he even exist? None of the tributes were purple before.. he must not be a tribute.

I shake my head, wondering what the hell he is, why he's naked as I lift my feet out of the sand and rush towards him with my axe.

Solid ground beneath my feet is oh-so-comfortable. I smile, hop up and down a few times, then dig my feet into the sand as if to test it. But then.. the crazy purple boy. He hardly seems human, and I've decided that he isn't human. Has to be a weird mutt of some sort. A weird, bizarre, purple mutt that speaks and can't feel fear. Or doesn't seem to feel fear. He shouts at me, and his speech is so garbled, or I'm so overwhelmed, that it takes me a moment to hear what he says.

"DUDE STOP HITTING ME! I'm the only one who can hit here, cause I am the awesome one!"

He can't be a tribute -- there's no way. Purple, crazy, naked? And with tributes.. with tribute's there's something unspoken there. They don't ask why they're being attacked, because they all know the answer. What does he expect me to do, sit here and let him win?

Tributes know why they must die. Tributes are not purple. Some of them are naked, yeah, but this..

This guy can't be real, and that's why I don't hesitate. I haven't seen him before, I don't believe.. so he's not one of us. He is a mutt, and he must be killed. I step somewhat cautiously because of the sand, but now I know where stable ground lays. When I swing my axe at him, I don't care.
