The Great Experiment Rules & Information

The great experiment is a massive project hosted by the greatest mind that Panem has to offer, one Dr. Arocratus. Dr. Arocratus has distinguished himself in multiple fields, the most notable being sociology, psychology, and neurobiology. Essentially, it is a scientifically minded endeavor to study what makes humans think, and to unearth the studies of our predecessors.

5 years ago, in an ancient bunker north of the Capitol, a considerable stash of pre-Armageddon (this is the assumed term used by our predecessors for their destruction) scientific papers detailing everything from chemical reactions to sociological studies. This exciting find has allowed us to greatly expand the depth of our research into the human mind and its internal workings, as well as exploring the ever-present human condition.

The great experiment is a volunteer driven enterprise in which the human condition will be furiously studied in a variety of different conditions. Volunteers will receive considerable packages of food, monetary bonuses, and other benefits if they participate in this experiment. However, it should be noted that they will unfortunately miss the reaping of the Hunger games at that time and not be able to participate in them; their names are removed from the ballot box when it comes time to do the reaping.

Only twelve, one from each district, will be allowed to participate for the great experiment. Gender equality is encouraged but not needed. The announcement of the event will be exactly one month before the beginning of it; once the waiting period ends, it is a first come, first serve basis within the districts. Positions fill up soon, so don’t stall or wait out! Please note that if a district has no volunteers, it will turn to randomized choice.

Once the twelve have been chosen, you have a 24 hour period to go to your local justice building. Otherwise we will force you to come. You signed on, and it is thus your responsibility to make your way there. Once you are there, you will be driven to the train station and placed in the train. You can enjoy a number of foods and the like while there, but try not to stuff yourself. It will take approximately one day to make it to the scientific institute. Once there you will be briefed on it, and then the test will begin. Once inside there is no way out without the door being opened by one of the controllers of the experiment.

We need a qualified team of scientists who can assist us in testing the subjects with full attentiveness and logic. There is no room for failure here, and only the qualified will be able to sign up to assist the scientific community in this great leap of psychological study. If you want to sign up as a scientist for this experiment, please go to your local Justice building and inform a peacekeeper. They will give you a thorough background check and then you will be admitted into the laboratory[at an undisclosed location].

There are only six open spots for any volunteering and interested scientists. There will be a hefty monetary reward for these scientists, and they will likely be respected throughout Panem after these experiments have been completed. It will be added to their resume, and you will be the pride of your district, and be well known within the scientific community. Same rules regarding leaks apply to Scientists as they do to contestants.

All of the experiments have been tested and approved by trained engineers, bomb specialists, pyromaniacs, and other qualified people. There is little to no risk of injury while using any equipment or while participating for this test. Note that in the unlikely case of injury or death, the patient’s family will be informed of this tragic loss and there will be ceremonies held in their honor. However, we are not liable in any way for deaths or homicides which have been committed in these tests.

Please note that there a number of ways that one could die while in this test, as unlikely as it is. Among the various ways that you can die during this test include: Starvation, Asphyxiation, internal bleeding, blood poisoning, food poisoning, clawing, being eaten alive by tiny insects, Oxygen overexposure, attacks by various mutations, radiation, dysentery, cholera, bruising, skull fracture, bone fracture, shock, drowning, and the aforementioned murder by another contestant. Otherwise it’s perfectly safe.

Once the twelve participants have been passed through background checks and their bodies have been stripped of harmful substances such as weapons or things which could be conceived as weapons, they will be placed in a cell in the testing area. There are 12 cells in the testing area and each of these cells has its own special attribute; the nature of these attributes will not be disclosed publicly since that would damage the integrity of the science experiment.

One should be mindful that from 10 PM to 8 AM, their cells go on lockdown and they will not be allowed in or out. There is a large clock in the center of the testing area, and it will remind the participants that they must go into their cells by 10PM, and our again at 8 AM. Cells are unlockable after that time by any participant, and there is no way to lock them again; they will remain like that until 10PM.

There are no rules against the killing, maiming, enslavement, or raping of another participant (please note that the latter is incredibly frowned upon and may result in the supplies of the raper to be cut off for an extended period of time). You will not be allowed to bring anything inside the cell with you except for your clothes, and any discovery of weapons or other contraband that is not provided by the institute will result in immediate, and severe, punishment.

During the day cooperation is not in any way prohibited, but it is not encouraged either. As long as a contestant is using a material within the confines of the Institute, he or she has free reign to do whatever he or she wants. This includes: Entering the cells of other participants, doing various things to said participants, beating other participants, enforcing their will on other participants, camping outside of their cell, using any materials provided to do whatever they want, and stealing whatever they want from other participants. Be mindful, however, that you can receive what you have done in kind.

Announcements regarding various events and supplies being distributed will be a common sight. Every single cell is equipped with a television that is built into the wall. The television does not display a variety of entertainment; the only two channels is the official announcement channel and the Hunger games channel. Here you can watch replays of the hunger games and your favorite scenes, over and over again.

Food and water will be amply supplied to each cell by a pneumatic tube in the wall at 9 PM every night. There is a single light in every cell, and it will turn on at 9 PM, and off at 9 AM. Announcements are fully audible inside and outside the cell, but every cell is soundproof from one another. Please do not attempt to break the walls of the cell as such a thing will result in personal injury; the cell walls are not breakable by human hands.

The experiment will continue for a two week period; afterwards all of the contestants will be sent home with their hefty rewards for their furthering of human progress. However, the contestants should be mindful that the contents of the experiment should not be disclosed ahead of time, as it will be published in a full scientific presentation in due time. Not only does releasing sensitive information ahead of time damage the credibility of the project, but it also directly harms Panem. Doing such a thing will result in…consequences.

There will be a team of scientists which will be observing your behavior for twenty four hours a day. Both indirect and Empirical evidence will be used within the confines of this experiment. There will be multiple surveillance cameras throughout the institute to make sure that the participant complies with the experiment, and does not attempt to escape the cell or tamper with any equipment he is not allowed to tamper with.

There is no public footage of this. This is all done in a clandestine location, and when you sign up, please note that information leaked will be on your head. You will have no contact with the outside world for two weeks, although there will be other contestants. You can interact with them in any way you want; please be mindful that there is only one entrance that also serves as an exit. At the end of the two weeks it will be re-opened and you are free to leave at your own volition. You have twelve hours to leave the testing area once a bell has signified the end of the test; afterwards we will send in the cleanup crews and the rest of the scientists to study the area intently.
