Just one look at Mara, and you'll know she's got the typical assortment of de Avila genes. It is obvious from the very top part of her body, which doesn't require you to stretch any more muscles and crane your neck, for that matter. Her height of fix feet and six inches, average in Panem's health standards, is fairly eye-level together with the rest. That is, unless you are part of the one-fourth of towering heights ― which, to say, is the rest of the de Avilas ― then you are on the same side of the height department as her. Her limbs are in normal length and normal size in general, although a tad bit skinnier. Those good genes just can't help themselves.
Each and everyone in that family has a thicket of blonde hair on top of their fair head, mostly a neatly-styled array of waves, and Mara is no exemption. The mass of thick blonde strands, alternating between soft waves and much more defined curls. It is naturally like that from birth, never straight and takes an unreasonable amount of time to tame down to a sleek, straight state (although she rarely tries that style, since it takes too much time), even with the aid of hair products from the District's finest and even the expensive imported ones from the Capitol. It can be classified as just one whole shade, except when you notice little streaks of darker hair underlying the top layer, a failed new hairstyle attempt makeover of Anastasia and Savannah in order to give her a 'refreshing new look.' Her eyebrows, although a slightly darker shade than that of her own hair, is quite subdued. It has been plucked off of the extra hairs around, but other than that, it is perfectly okay on its own.
Her light coloring ― from her fair skin to her light-hued hair ― provides no natural contrast, especially with her average-sized, average-colored lips. The only other significant color that seems to be granted to her naturally would be her eyes. It was green, more of around the sage hue, and not particularly striking with its toned-down, mellow shade. They were a large, almond-shape, sharp-edged around the ducts. She only wears mascara ― large quantities of it, in fact ― (I wouldn't, if it weren't for the constant nagging of my mom and my sisters)
In comparison with the slender noses of her parents and Anastasia, and in contrast to Savannah's button nose, she had the complete opposite side of the spectrum. While the low bridge is slender, it ends out to a heart-shaped bottom, with flared-up nostrils. Her sharp nose doesn't bothers her, although while she could have come across the thought of using her family's influence to undergo the needle for it, she just hadn't and probably wouldn't. Mara doesn't like to think that she has an advantage over the rest. Because I don't. She's not the tallest, when there are at least two girls after her during school assembly lines, but quite short once compared to her elder sisters.

When she goes inside a room, you notice her. Not because of her brash attitude, or outspoken thoughts. She's not the type. But there's just something about her. Something about the demeanor that she gives off that is sweet and gentle, although she's silent and only ever politely speaks during a first encounter. Some will immediately brand her as shy, but let's keep our thoughts to ourselves as of the moment, shall we?
But what you see is what you get.Well, kind of. Once you get to know her, don't worry, she'll talk. You won't discover that she is secretly a chatterbox, because she's not. She will reply once it is expected of her to say something back, or perhaps maybe to keep the conversation flowing and going. 'That's just Mara for you.'
She's a great friend, someone to count on in times of dire need or thosepathetic moments where you just need a little quick grin and a thumbs up. So don't fret, little girl, Mara's there for you. May it be a funeral of a close friend (possibly because of the... unexplainable and strange occurrences that happen behind those elaborate buildings of the District's wealthiest?), or perhaps maybe just someone to borrow a pen from. She's got your back.
But when you've got everyone's backs for most of the time, you'll realize that you've been living in their shadows for your whole life. And even with that ball of sunshine you've got cooped up inside your heart, so painfully bright that others can't possibly contaminate with it their dirtied hands, it's just not enough.

You think that she's the sweetest, most kindest girl who ever walked the grounds of Panem. That she's beautiful -- perfect, even. That even though she's already got what you could never have, she deserves a lot more.

You can't help but stare at that smug and proud smile on their lips, and how with just one flick of a hand, it could be wiped off because they don't deserve it. You stop yourself short, wondering where that came from. And that hand couldn't be yours, because you don't do that.
Darling, she knows she deserves more. But I just don't know how to be more.
She's a de Avila, for crying out loud. The de Avilas get what they want, how they want it. So all you see is this little girl, smiling so sweet, speaking kind words that feels like cotton to your ears and leaves a warm, contented feeling in your stomach, looking so modest and perfectly fine with what she already has. The singsong melodic voice runs deep in the blood, and it's no surprise that her voice is as pleasant as her smile. Like a little bird, perhaps. But these holy walls weren't made by the sturdiest hands, and all of a sudden, she loses her touch. There were people better than her, with voices booming with personality and teeming with attitude. Voices full of emotions rooted out of their souls and tragic stories (because the District of glittering jewels have their own sobs stories to tell, too)[/color] yet to be shared. Something she will never have, because what is there to be sad and melodramatic about having a life where you can have everything you want within a snap, where everything is served to you in a silver tray and a golden spoon up in your mouth?
But boisterous voices may win out her more gentle one, there is one skill that she will remain secretive and protective about. Long fingers dance gracefully above the ivory and ebony keys of their finely-crafted grand piano, producing notes that transport you to a world where everything is fine and alright. But these musical story will remain hidden inside four walls, because she just can't bear to be second-best once again, especially not in something she prides herself so much.[/color][/justify]

The de Avilas of the Capitol and the Silverwenns of District One were already in close ties long before it was strengthened even more with the nuptial. It was all about strategy (and a fortunate stretch of luck that seems to go on forever, not that they would ever admit it): the Silverwenns had their own fair share of Victors to add in to the District's pool of pride, and the de Avilas wouldn't be successful if it weren't for their ancestor who was blessed with a shrewd eyes fit for business purposes, and were quick to see a winner once they lay their gaze upon the sea of Careers, all seeking fame and fortune. The clever sponsorship arrangement was made, and soon enough, money was flowing in.
William de Avila and Melanie Silverwenn didn't have a wild-ride romance fueled by passion so strong it could move boulders, nor was it the heart-wrenching tragic sob story of the decade. They were both blonde and beautiful, and fancied each other. They were both of respectable background anyway, so 'what the heck, why not?' must have been what was on their parents' minds. After all, there was nothing to lose.
Their wedding was very much celebrated, attended by the usual suspects, none other. Those who felt the need to, in order to boost whatever was anyone's personal opinions of them, because another social function was just another opportunity to show others what you wanted to be perceived as. You want to slap it to their face that they will never, in a million years, experience the luxurious lifestyle you have now? Simply wear your finest garments on the side of the street! Surely someone's bound to stop and openly gawk. Those who wanted to, to get a taste of what it is really like to be within the perimeters of the rich and the famous (but that what they like to think, but not everything is what is seems, darling)
