The airship flight to the arena had been much faster than Forty had anticipated. He'd spent the time chatting quietly with whomever would listen. He had discovered the pilot had been flying for over thirty years without a single incident, and that his daughter was expecting his first grandchild. He'd talked to the stewardess about the trouble she had finding a job, and now about the all the places around the Capitol she had seen. And finally he had talked to Vail, although he hadn't yet gleaned many personal details, he very much appreciated her up beat attitude. He was sure it would help them in this scavenger hunt.
He still counted himself extremely lucky to have been chosen. He bounced off the airship walk, pack in hand, smile bright despite the humidity and dust. He was so excited about the arena that he forgot to wave goodbye to the kind citizens who had ferried him to the wilds of the 58th arena. He looked up belatedly and then offered his toothy grin to Vail.
"I guess we start here," Forty said, admiring the savannah around them. "Do you want to walk? Dig? Climb a tree?"
