There is something about being awkward that is both physical and emotional. On the outside, Asunder isn't the most attractive bloke, and his body just doesn't fit together quite the way a human puzzle should. On the inside, he's a wreck of wants and needs that he can't properly express. He might stare too long after a stranger, or clam up when a friend needs help, or ramble on in front of his crush. Asunder can't seem to make the connection between his tongue and the rest of his organs, be that his head or his heart.

Asunder was named for the moment of his birth, the moment the miracle of life led him into this world and took his mother out of it. His father never forgave him. Around Asunder's sixth birthday,they moved in with his aunt and uncle who looked to the boy as a source of oil and butter via tesserae, and treated him worse than the family dog before his twelfth year. After that, though, their attitudes changed. They helped him with school supplies. When he was fifteen he decided he wanted to work in the mines, and he worked whenever he could, plunging into the forgiving dark. Now, Asunder has the chance to move on, to make a better life for himself. It would mean leaving his ever grieving father behind, his opportunistic aunt and uncle bereft. But it might just be worth it... after one more go at the reaping.
