I sat in the dark, (not a real kind of darkness like at night or in an unlit room,) but in the shadows of a side street. There was a bench here, for whatever reason, and I liked how I was both sheltered from the sun that split the sky in its glaring way, and the looks that always seemed to judge me. I clenched one hand, rubbing the ends of my fingers together as I did. I never seemed to be important to anyone, (I just always seemed to get in the way.) And now, now that the Yearlings no longer really existed I was without people who would actually spare me a glance of kindness. To everyone else, I was some oversized streetrat who was no better than the thief that had tried to steal their pocket change.

I, only armed with a spoon, attacked the ice cream box and finished him off. It was delicious.

The sky was slightly cloudly, giving just enough heat and light but not enough to start burning anybody. Kristy just exited from the doctor's office, and looked up at the blue sky, mixed with grey. It seems to be a nice enough day, maybe there would be rain. Even though rain in district 6 can be considered useless due to the fact they weren't in the agriculture/food area, the soft sounds of the drops of water splashing down seemed to have an almost comforting effect on Kristiina. Walking with the money she earned in her pocket, she slowly sorted the tasks on hand. I'll take this home and then store the dollars where all the others are, and see if there is anything I need to buy.[/i] With this conviction she set off towards home.

In truth I had had to resort to theft to get by at points, but it wasn't as if I did it all the time. It was only when I didn't have a job, something that was becoming more and more common with me now that I was beginning to make my way through the not-long-enough list of people who could offer such jobs to me. I was running out of places to make enough money so ends meet might be feasible. The couple coins that did rest in my pocket would get me nowhere, and if I was lucky maybe a bite to eat. (But just a single bite.) A light wind blew a couple stray dry leaves past my feet. (It was odd to see leaves this early into spring, let alone dry ones like that.) But what did it matter, (they didn't have a care,) they just floated on the breeze without a thought in the world.
