I'm a runaway wanted by the peacekeepers that reside in District Ten. I ran away because life wasn't the way I wanted it to be. I hated living, I hated working, I hated my own family. I spent eighteen years devising a plan to runaway hoping that it would one day be successful. I spent every single moment exploring the district to find a way to escape, and I stalked the peacekeepers learning their daily routines. I spent every second trying to figure out the which part of the district was clear at certain times so if I ever needed to escape, I would know where to run. It was easy to get away with roaming around when I was younger because I was only a lost cause. I didn't have anyone to care about me. I didn't have a loving family most wants to have. Roaming around the district became more difficult the older I became. I had to plan my moves carefully in order to learn what I needed to learn. I would come up with lies explaining why I was in the areas I was often found in. "Oh, you know, it's just more peaceful over here by myself. I just need time alone." I never thought the day would come where I ran away. I never dreamed it would happen, but it did; otherwise, I wouldn't be where I am today. My mission was a success.

From the time I was born, I was always smaller than everyone else. I was always the one that was tiny, scrawny, underfed boy that nobody cared about. My own parents would let me go without food in order for their own survival. Yeah, they would give me the scraps they had left over; however, most of the time that's not much food. When your going hungry, most of the food is going to be eaten. One can stare at me from a few yards away and be able to count my ribs if I walked outside with my shirt off. I was ashamed of how I looked. I hated being seen like that. I hated that my parents would rather let their own son starve, but it's the way of life here. I started sneaking out of the house when I was young looking for ways to escape, and ways to survive on my own. I tried to make myself look presentable because I didn't want to get taken away from my parents although that would have been amazing because I hate them. I hate them for not caring about me. I tried to make myself grow muscles, but there was no way for me to work out and grow those amazing abs a lot of guys walk around with. I was jealous of the other guys because they were wanted, and I wasn't. I wasn't wanted by anyone. I'm always alone.

I stopped caring about how I looked, and how I treated others. At one point my hair was rather long and shaggy, but I cut it off with a butcher knife I stole from the butcher shop. I cut every single bit of it off because it reminded me too much of my Pa. My pa let his hair grow out. He let himself look like a wild man, and that he was. He used to teach me a lesson saying I was stupid, and I wasn't able to do anything right. His lessons were supposed to change me, but it didn't. I spent every single night hiding outside the house waiting for him to come home, so I could sneak away from him. I ran to a friend's house begging them to let me stay. They always wanted to know what was going on, but I never told them. I just told them I wanted to stay with them so I wouldn't have to deal with my pa. I can't help the anger that builds inside me when I think about my ma. I look the most like her. I have her facial features; her almond shaped eyes transferred over to my face. The only thing is I have my pa's eye color. I hate how brown they are. It's like I'm staring at mud when I see my reflection. Oh, how I wish I looked differently. I wish I was different because I hate my parents. I'll never claim them as parents. Ever.

I used to be a quiet, honest, caring person that loved being around people. I loved spending time with my parents. I loved spending time with my friends. I wanted to be around them, but they never wanted to be around me. I was an outcast since I was born. I'm an outcast, and I hated it. I hated everything about it because everyone longs to be cared for. I longed to have someone tell me I was respected, but it never happened. I was treated like a piece of trash. My own father laughed at me each time I ran to him for help. "You think you need my pity, but you don't. Let me teach you a lesson in respect son." Those were the words I never wanted to hear. I looked at my mother for help. I needed her help. I needed a protective hand to be placed on my shoulder to protect me from harm. I was young. I was full of innocence. I had no idea what I had done wrong. I didn't need to be taught a lesson. I just wanted my father to love me. I wanted my father to respect me, but he didn't care about me. He never cared about me. I begged for my mother to help me, but she never did. She loved my father more than she loved me. How could someone not care what a father does to their own son? How could a mother do that?

"Why are you letting him do this to me? Do you not love me? Do you hate me like he does? Why don't you care? You're supposed to love me, but you don't! Nobody does!" I could tell by looking at her that I hit a sore spot. I hit her where it hurts, but she didn't say nothing to me. She walked away from me like everyone else in my life did. She left me alone when I needed her the most. I don't need them. I never needed them. I'll never need them. They don't know the first thing about me. I'm fine without them. I stopped trying to communicate with my parents. I never wanted to see them again. I wanted them to die by my hands when the time was right. I wanted them to be buried so far below the ground nobody could hear them. It would make life easier knowing they were gone, but I couldn't do that. "Remember, Eli, we are your parents. You must respect us. You don't want to disrespect us now do you?" I ran like a coward because I didn't want to answer the question. No, I don't want to respect them, but I'm too much of a coward to say that to their face. I know what will happen. I know the outcome if I ever said I didn't want to respect them because it happened before., and the grim smile on my father's face is one I never want to see again.

I started sneaking out of the house because I wanted to stay away from them. I would go to the border of the district looking for ways to escape. Peacekeepers always started questioning me, but I never let them know what I was up to. I couldn't let them know. I'm not going to let them control my life anymore. They are just as bad as my parents are. They think they own me, but nobody owns me. I own myself. I'm my own person. I am in charge of what happens to me. Nobody can tell me what I can and can't do because I don't have to answer to anyone. Go ahead teach me a lesson. What's the worse it can do? It'll make me hate you. I'll hate everyone of you if you try to tell me what to do. You don't own me. I own me, and I'm tired of the bullshit that goes on in this place. A time comes when people has had enough, and I've had enough. I'm done with it. I'll be my own person. I'll escape from this living hell. I'll finally be free, but first, I have a few things that need to be taken care of. Tonight will be the last night you ever control me. I'll break free from your grasps tonight. I'll be free, and you'll be trapped in the district to serve in hell for the rest of your miserable life. My lips turn up forming a large, evil grin.

I walked in the door of my house prepared for anything that may step in my way. I could hear the yells of my father as I slammed the door behind me. "You stupid, good for nothing piece of trash. You best go back and shut that door properly!" His voice was harsh slicing through the air like a dual sword piercing my heart. Anger pulses through my veins with every heart beat. I move forward stopping just outside the door of the room he's in. Sweat runs from my brow as my hands shake at my side. I have had enough of this. I'm done with it. I'm tired of the bullshit. I'm tired of living in hell, and tonight I'll finally be free. I storm into the room, and I stop in front of him. "I'm tired of you treating me like I'm nothing. I'm tired of you telling me that I'm a piece of property. You don't own me. The Capitol doesn't own me. Nobody owns me. I'm tired of you telling me I'm not good enough. You are my father. You're supposed to love me. You're supposed to care for me. You're supposed to be there for me as I grow up, but you're not. You hate me. You've always hated me, and now it's my turn to hate you." Muscles in my entire body shake rapidly as I stare at him waiting for him to talk. I'm prepared. I'm ready.

"How dare you speak to me like that. How dare you treat me like I've done nothing in your life. I have raised you. I have kept you alive. I have fed you, but you don't give me anything in return. You are ungrateful, and I'll make you grateful. I'll make sure you never speak to me like that again." I laughed as he started to get to his feet because I'm not afraid of him. I'll never be afraid of this stupid good for nothing father of mine. "I'm not afraid of you. I've grown past being afraid of you. You should be afraid of me. You should be the one that fears me. Do you know why? I don't care if you know why or not! I'm in charge now, and you will listen to me." I can fill my muscles clenching tighter and tighter. My breathing is heavy as my voice echoes throughout the room. "I'm going to leave, and I dare you to try to follow me where I'm going. If you follow me, I promise I will rip your head off your body. I promise you I'll make your death a painful death, and just to make sure you never follow me..." I ball my hand into a fist, and I swing as hard as I can landing a blow right in the middle of his face. I can feel the bone shattering under the weight of my fist as howls of laughter escapes my lips.

Blood pours from his face as he swears under his breathe. His blood runs down my hand dripping onto the floor leaving the wooden floor stained a crimson red. "You little shit. I should teach you a lesson. I'll teach you to never treat me like this again. I'll make sure you're no longer alive to treat me like this ever again. Do you understand?" I stop laughing long enough to stare at him. Anger flooding through my veins with the liquid fire that never ceases to exist. All the times he taught me a lesson floods to my mind as I stare into his eyes. Flames flicker in my own eyes as I grind my teeth back and forth. My hands shake rapidly I grip the side of my pants to keep them still. I'll never let him teach me a lesson again. This time I'll be the one teaching him a lesson. I'll make him pay for every lesson he's ever taught me. I open my mouth to speak, but no words flow from lips. Instead, I stare at him waiting for him to try to move. I dare him to try anything. I dare him. I crack my neck as my father makes his way to his feet. "You won't get away with this Elisha Valentine. I am your father. You must respect your father. Hasn't my lessons taught you anything? I guess not because it's time for your next lesson. Respect."

I back my way into the kitchen where the eating utensils are sitting on the table behind me. I place my hands behind my back as my father staggers towards me. One of my hands wraps around the handle on the old rusted fork that they use to eat with. "Come one step closer to me. I dare you. I dare you to try and teach me another lesson. You won't teach me anything. Do you really think your lessons taught me anything? You want to know what I learnt from them? I learnt you are a bastard. You hate me. You say you love me, but you never have, and now it's my turn to teach you a lesson." My head pounds with every heart beat. I can feel my eyes bulging from my skull as my blood races to my face. "I hate you! I hate everything about you! Do you not realize what you did to me? I hope you die! I hope you go to hell where you and your wife belong!" My grip tightened on the fork as he staggers towards me at full speed. I hold it out in front of me, and when he's close enough I lunge at him jabbing the fork into his stomach. I kick him as hard as I can prepared to run out of the door. "If anyone asks what happened to you, I'm dead because I killed myself trying to kill you. Do you understand?!" Moaning, he nods his head, and I burst out of the door.

I ran out the door as fast as I could heading towards the edge of the district where I could slip out into the woods that surround it. Blood covers my hand. I don't want anyone to look at me because they'll think I just killed someone. I run my hand along the side of my pants wiping the blood from them. I know that it's going to leave a nice stain for everyone to see, but it's better than seeing it on my hands. I can come up with an excuse easily if needed. I can tell them I sliced my leg while I was running, or I fell slicing my leg open. Either of them would work, but I'd have to make the mark on my leg for it to look like the truth. I continue running as I look around making sure that nobody is following me. Part of me expects to see my mother chasing after me as she wishes to turn me over to the peacekeepers when she sees her husband laying in the floor with a fork sticking out of his stomach. I ran towards the fence and slowly slipped my way underneath the electric fence. I ran into the woods as fast as I could not looking back. I won't miss that place. I won't miss my parents. I won't miss anything about it because I'm free. I'm free to stay hidden. Let them try to find me. I'll hide. I'll stay hidden forever. To them, I'll be dead.

The first few months living in the woods was spent with me hiding trying to stay away from anything that looked evil. I almost went back to the district because I was starving. I had no idea what I was supposed to eat. I didn't know what was poisonous, and what was edible. Many nights during the winter I nearly froze to death. I had no idea how to survive outside a warm, welcoming home. This wasn't warm and welcoming, but I've adapted. I use rocks as weapons when it comes to killing an animal. I sneak up behind them crushing the skull before they have a chance to attack. It failed one time though. I wasn't careful enough, and I ended up with a huge hole in the middle of my leg. I could see the bone when I looked at it, but I managed to survive. I walk with a limp now because I almost lost my leg. I'm unable to run anymore, but I camouflage myself so I can hide under trees without anything noticing me. I'm living the life of freedom. The life I always wanted to live. Would I go back to district ten if I had the chance? No, I wouldn't. I'd never go back there. I hate it there, and they hate me. I'm dead to them. It's been a few months since I've left, and I'm sure they've all forgot about me.
