She had to try the other weapons. Although Anni much preferred using different methods, she knew the damage a weapon could do if she was given the chance to use one of them. If she didn’t get any practice, though, then how was she supposed to know what to do with them? Her hand reached out to a sword and grabbed it by its hilt. The sword felt heavy in her hand and she was certain that her arm was going to give out before she could practice swinging it. With all of the strength she could muster up, she brought the sword into what seemed like a good position and randomly swung. The swing felt low, there was no aim at all, and Anni knew that she was not going to survive if she was stuck in the arena with only a sword.

Mumbling some unintelligible words, she placed the sword back on the weapons rack before her whole body stiffened and she felt a pair of eyes on her. Please don’t let it be a trainer, she thought as she turned around to see who it was. It was worse; the pair of eyes belonged to the District Two boy. He had volunteered for the spot which meant that he was bloodthirsty, most likely a career, and he was probably laughing at her, if not only internally. Not knowing what else to do, she stared at him.

I already know how to handle most if not all weapons, but watching the other tributes attempt to learn cracks me up. They will not master the art of killing in time for the arena. It truly appears that I'm the only one here who's truly willing to kill in a heartbeat. To me it appears everyone wants to play nice. Kindness makes me sick. Why have happiness when one will find nothing but devastation in a few days time. No one seems to understand what's at stake here. Don't they know that getting to know people will only make it that much harder to kill someone? If the games happened right now, I would have no problem killing each and every tribute here. My goal will be to cause bloodshed. Who will fall by my hand first?

When I spot one of the tributes from three the inner killer within practically shouts for joy. Here is someone that is definitely weak. I decide to watch the tribute attempt to train with the sword, but utterly fails. My smile could not have been any wider on my face. This tribute looks like dead meat. Cannon fodder for death if I ever saw someone like that. The girl looks at me which I don't blame her. Right in front of her eyes is someone who will end her life. "Shouldn't you be training some more?" My voice sounds so cruel, but I don't give a damn. This girl needs to get it in her head that this isn't some game. "The harbinger of your destruction stands before you."

As Anni stared at the district two tribute, she tried to deconstruct him in her mind. There was no doubt that in the arena, there would be no time to dawdle around and figure out everyone’s weak spot, but she took advantage of the time spent not being attacked. He was big, strong, most likely well-trained in using every weapon—which meant that there would definitely be weaknesses in his style. But she really couldn’t do anything while he was a standing block in front of her.

Yes, she should be training more, but she hardly needed him to tell her that. She didn’t even care that he was speaking to her with no remorse; she just wanted him to not observe her. Of course, she was going to be watched by everyone while in the arena, but there was something about him that made her particularly not want him there. He then made some silly statement about how he was the harbinger of her destruction. Oooh, the big boy knows some big words. Sarcasm invaded her thinking as she couldn’t stop thinking about how silly he was for even talking to her. “So if you’re the harbinger, who will be the cause of my destruction?” An earnest question, no menace or sarcasm laced in her words. And yet, she felt like mocking him for falling into the stereotype of hunting down the weak tributes. If he had been any smarter, he would have used his brain.
