Sometimes, in the winter, they'd let us go up to the surface. Like rabbits emerging from warrens, we'd pop our heads up and blink in confusion at the world around us. The snow was crisp and fresh, laid down like a blanket. Unspoiled and untouched, so perfect that we wanted to rampage through it like the kids we were. It's human nature to want to ruin something so pure. We ran through the forest, where the birds lived. I liked to listen to them sing. We didn't have anything like that underground. We just had the cold and the dark.

Out of the three children from District Thirteen who were chosen for Project Titan, I showed the most encouraging signs, early-on at least. I think it's because I hit puberty first. Some kind of burst of adrenaline and focus allowed me to adapt to the intensity of the program. I had the best memory, attitude, enthusiasm and I displayed flawless physicallity. Of course, it was just me hitting puberty - a burst of testosterone, and nothing more. Annie quickly overtook me, and sustained her impressive form, and that was because of her outstanding determination.

They made us go to the ruins. Charred buildings and decay were all that was left. I didn't like it. I could feel the ghosts around me. Shadows were permanantly cast against the remains of Thirteen, the heat from the firebombs imprinting them into the walls like relics of days gone by. Hundreds upon thousands of innocent people were caught were in that blast, the intensity of which instantly froze some people into ash. Now they remain as haunting statues, trapped forever in their final, desperate moments. I'm seen as a tough guy, but I did not like that. Not one bit.

My hatred for the Capitol is branded into my mind from years of indoctrination and brainwashing. The worst part is that I know I have been brainwashed, and yet I have no problem with it. They've made me into someone important, who has purpose in this mad world. I'm strong, fit, agile, smart, cunning - I'm everything you need in a secret weapon. Those skills are invaluable in any life, and having someone else dictate your motives are a small price to pay for such power.

Bert and Annie, they're my only friends in this world. I know other people around District Thirteen, but only those two went through this sick process with me. They're trained assassins, specializing in the insane and the impossible. I feel like we know each other better than we ever thought we would when this started. When we were just kids signing up for something we assumed was innocent. We've all suffered. We've all had bad days on this program, Bertoldt especially, but we help each other through it, and that's what's important. We help each other through the rough patches, because we're a team. In a strange way, we're more than a team, we're a family. We need to be, to survive. We are like a pack, almost. We're quite wild. There's no doubt we're animals by nature, but we work instincitvely together. We all play to our natural strengths, y'know? That's why we're dangerous.

Bert has some trouble with his mom. She was involved in the titan project, not as actively as she would have liked but she played some kind of key role. She made them push him harder than the rest of us, to make him the strongest. Physically, it worked. The guy is taller than me, not bulkier though. He's a hell of an athlete too - Usually whenever we try our strength on each other we match, except he seems to have some kind of extra agility over me, which is usually my downfall. Mentally it screwed him up. Bert's a nervous wreck most of the time, and he's so damn afraid of the future. I know there's a lot of expectation on our shoulders, but it's a burden we share, as a group.

Annie is very distant. I don't know. Bertolt and I are like brothers. We grew up as best friends, and we went through this sick brainwashing together. Sure, we met Annie through the program but she's never had that bond that Bert and I have shared since we were three years old. She's hard to read, and although I consider her a friend, and trust her with my life, I still don't understand her nearly enough as I should. Since we enlisted in the Peacekeeper trainee program, she rose through the ranks, signing up for the Capitol Police, whilst Bert and I joined Levi Heichou's infamous scouting division. It's the first time we've been separated from Annie since the beginning, but I trust in her to fulfil her role in this plot.

I have to say that I'm coping well. We were instructed to blend in and socialize with the other Peacekeepers, but I never imagined I would get carried away with it. Turns out I'm a popular guy, and I've made a ton of friends here. Back in Thirteen there weren't too many kids our age, but within the Peacekeeping ranks there are hundreds of young adults like myself. It's no wonder Thirteen is slowly dying when it can't produce soldiers of such quality, like the Capitol can. I may have endured months of tracker-jacker venom being forced into my system so that I would hate the Capitol with every fibre of my being, but these people are my friends - And what's more, they don't know what they're fighting for. If I play my cards right, I might be able to turn them and get them on my side. It's that or-... Yeah. I don't want that.

Because of my physicallity and strength, they made me a suit. Not just any suit, no. This was the Armoured Titan v1.0.1, a body suit designed as an exoskeleton to enhance strength and duribility. It also had a built in user-interface that connected with your neural system to improve reflexes and allow the suit to adapt with the messages being sent from the brain. It was a good suit, sure. No one else could use it, y'know? Annie was being trained in her stealth and marital arts, whilst Reiner had his chemical gases and his accupunture - God damn him testing his accupuncture on me after gym sessions. I suppose they needed me to specialize in something. That something was training in their mechanized suit.

And to be honest, I loved it.

After they attached an automatic sub-machine gun on one arm, and a shotgun on the other, I felt comfortable that I could take on anyone. I was already a well-built person, but with the suit I was so much more. I was a weapon, ready to destroy the Capitol and everyone associated with it's corruption. Haven't seen that suit since I left to become a Peacekeeper and start this undercover operation. It won't be long before I find it again, and become indestructable.

I can feel myself inside it. I can feel my body enhanced by it's mechanical exoskelleton, and I feel the power of it's weapons. I destroyed the rubble of Thirteen in that suit, when they trained me. I gunned down the ash people like they were still alive, granting them their final peace. Soon, I will do it again, and this time the people will be real. I'll taste blood and burden, and I'll like it. I will not be marked as a failed project, not after all this work. Failure is not an option. The extinction of their species must begin with me, the armoured rebel, Reiner Braun.
