SWIMMING: 100M FREESTYLE

Welcome to the 100m Freestyle tournament of the very first Panem Olympic Games! The swimming pool is located within the aquatics center, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the pool for your race, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character getting ready to begin the race, and then paste the code [*roll=1000+5000] without the asterisks into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a time, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 5000 is read as 50.00 seconds)

The competitor with the lowest time wins this event. Times for this event will be continually updated on this thread.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

You have no fears here in the cold pold, surrounded by droves of your admirers and fans. For once, that idiot-boy-victor Leon Krigel has nothing to say over you. Here, in the second Panem Olympics, you have your chance for glory and your strive for the crown. All you have to do is swim faster than your less-able opponents.

You look like a natural out there, with your tight suit that hugs your curves oh so nicely. The boys are probably pining over you, even if they can't see your honeydew hair or your forest-bright eyes. They will have to check you out later, when you're standing on the platform, a shiny gold metal in your hand. You'll smile for them then, and they'll see the beauty your grandmother gave you. Everyone will be jealous of you then, I promise, Aiyana.

With a deep, relaxing breath you take your place on the platform. Waiting for the moment they call you to your honor. 3, 2, 1... and you dive...

He stood on the starting block, gazing at the point where he wanted to enter the water in steady focus. There had been no sign of submarines back home, and there certainly wouldn't be here, but when the opportunity to be a part of the Olympics rose he entered. Every swimming event he could find soon had his name beside it, and now he was here. He just had to breathe, to think as though he were a submarine and travel under the water. The less surface tension he had to break, the faster he would be. Water may not have been his element, not in the way most others in his District took to it, but he was never a bad swimmer. Besides, there was nothing wrong with having a little fun now and then. Even a guard has to take a break. Surely the submarines would be there when he got back.

The gun went off and he dove into the water. He did his best to battle the resistance and drive himself the entire hundred meters, and he felt like he did a pretty good job. Still, there was a girl he knew had finished before him. Nevermind that though, I finished, I did well.

Eva couldn't believe that she was standing inside an Olympic aquatics center about to swim for a chance to win a gold medal. A few months ago the she would never have imagined herself here but yet here she stood. She was ready to prove to Panem that a girl with Brittle Bone Disease can win. She may have had to work harder to get here but that just ment she would appreciate the rewards even more. She had spent weeks preparing for the trials and when she was in she had never felt more alive, more confident. She jumped at the sound of a loud whistle signaling the beginning of her event. Taking quicker and quicker breaths Eva capped herself and put on her goggles. She was beginning to shake with nerves as her feet stood upon the starting block. When the announce said swimmers take your mark she nearly fell over going down. Calm down Eva you can do this go show them who you are. She thought to her self then the buzzer rang and she leaped.

The water warped around her and chilled her brittle bones but she would not shiver. She would swim until she could no longer swim any further. As soon as her streamline broke she kicked and pulled like it was the end of her days. Her heartbeat rung in her ears as she flip turned off the first lap. As she swam thoughts of her family watching her encouraged her even more. On her final lap she felt herself waning but would not give in so she pushed even harder. Her lungs twisted and screamed but she would not breathe until she was finished. As soon as her hand hit the time pad she burst out of the water breathing for air. By the times her lungs were filled the times were posted.

There were butterflies in his stomach. Butterflies reminded him of Rei, who was probably sitting in the stands with the rest of his friends. His heart was stirring in an invigorating mixture of excitement and anxiety because I’m in the Olympics, I’m on television and he was going to swim in front of the whole country! That means everyone is watching. His friends, complete strangers, other swimmers, maybe even his parents and his sisters! The idea was making his chest feel tight. Breathe in, breathe out. He walked out with the other swimmers, searching for his friends in the crowd as everyone bellowed.

”C'MON NAGISA.”

It wasn’t hard to find that voice. He spotted her in the stands surrounded by his friends, and waved enthusiastically. He definitely had to swim well for them. He had to make his practice worthwhile.

”SWIM LIKE YOU NEVER SWAM BEFORE.”

His face lit up with a confident smile. I will, I promise. If he didn’t place in the top three it would be a bummer for sure, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world. He had signed up for other swimming events as well, so there were plenty of chances to perform.

Plus, even if he did poorly in every single event, it would never destroy his passion for swimming.

He donned his goggles, stepped up onto the platform and positioned himself. The pool emitted a vast blue glare from where he stood, and nothing had ever looked more inviting - not even a strawberry shortcake. He could definitely do this.

The signal rang, and he dove.

Shivering from the adrenaline beginning to pump through his veins more than any chance of cold, Nat eyeballs the crowd, where he can see his brother's eyes staring straight back at him. Leon raises an eyebrow at Nat, his expression as shut off as the rest of him, and Nat raises a hand briefly in greeting. Yeah, well, I gotta try, don't I?

"Mm. Don't drown, little brother. And do your best."

Nat grins at the memory.

Gotcha.

The gun fires, and Nat dives into the blue.

As expected, the signups for the hundred meter freestyle had filled up with district four careers almost immediately. Katrina was no exception. The Olympics had a certain draw to them that was hard to describe. Unlike the arena, which required killing in order to achieve a crown, earning a medal simply required being better than everyone else. Taking her place as she waited for the signal, she spared a moment to look at the competition and smirk. The problem with most careers was cockiness. Talking shit when they couldn't make it to the bathroom. She stretched, preparing herself for the dive and tried not to bite her lip in concentration. The gun fired and she knifed forward into the water, keen on bringing home a medal.

Devilyn knew, standing on the block and waiting for the signal that he didn't have the professional training of many of the others, that he had only his love for being in the water and swimming. He waited for the signal and leapt into the water, stroking as hard as he knew how.

Arms pulled behind his back, the boy could feel his muscles waking up for the race. Looking around the Avery boy didn't feel nervous or confident. Sure, butterflies were building in his stomach but he wasn't sweating or shaking like he had before a test in school or a few times at the Reaping. He liked the Olympics more than the Games, even if he lost this race he wouldn't be killed.

It felt odd to be standing in front of so many people just to do something he did everyday. Swimming was as natural to most people in District Four as walking which was probably why every single person in this race was from the fishing districts. No matter what happened there was a medal in store for the fourth district.

As the boy lined up on the block with the other swimmers, he felt the incredible need to win wash over him. A medal would mean money, a new upgrade to the Sun Casher, medicine for Uncle Treaton. A medal could make something completely new out of his life. Maybe it was just wishful thinking, but that's what made his fingers itch as they all prepped to start. His fingers grazing the diving board as if it were gold before launching into the water.
