BOXING: ROUND 1

Welcome to the Boxing event of the second Panem Olympic Games! The boxing rings are located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The boxing event is a tournament, which follows a bracket. Each match will occur on this thread. Feel free to roleplay your character boxing their opponent and then paste the code [*roll range="1-7"] without the asterisk into your post THREE TIMES and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. These numbers are added up to determine the winner of each match.

The competitor who scores higher than their opponent moves on to the next round, which will be posted on a new thread. As the boxers post, the winners will be recorded here; when all the first round matches have been completed, the bracket will be updated and the next round will start.

Boxing was probably the event Terry Birch was most excited for. It combined two important abilities to a career: strength and speed; all while allowing opponents to release a little emotion by beating up on each other.

Terry did not really know the name of the person he was opposing. It wasn't all that important to him. He just stood in front of the crowd and faced the person he was supposed to defeat. Before punching, Terry scanned the faces of both the onlookers and the other boxers. Something in the distance caught his eye, something very unusual. Something he didn't understand and he didn't want to know, for surely it had to be a trick of light.

As the timer went off and the fight began, Terry shook off the feeling. There was no possible way he would have seen his own face in the crowd. The thought was just a side-effect of nerves, of course, and he was bound to work it off in the next few punches.

And so the match began, and Terry's mind went with it...

Boxing was going to be fucking rad.

Who didn’t want to punch people for fun? Sure, they would have gloved hands and there were certain rules and standards to uphold, but literally he could punch a complete stranger in the face on national television and it would qualify as sport. It was like a dream come true.

There were only two matches before his own, so he had been forced out of his bed before dawn to prepare himself for the duel. He had somehow managed to erase the bags under his eyes after a night of excessive partying (among other things), and now he felt refreshed. The first two matches sparked his interest, and by the time they were announcing his name and his opponent’s (Alexander something or other) he was fired up and ready to kick some ass.

Then he stepped into the ring and noticed who his opponent actually was.

Are you fucking kidding me?

A kid? A scrawny little twelve-year-old looking shit?

Kaiser was stranded between two options; completely beating the shit out of his kid, or letting him win just to amuse himself and his audience.

Obviously the first choice was better, but who knows, maybe the kid was fast? Maybe the little shit deserved a victory.

He shrugged and waited for the bell. "Show me what you got, kid." Let’s see how this starts.

Boxing. A chance to throw punches at someone without getting in trouble for it. I've had the urge to throw a punch or two at some of the people here, but I've had to restrain myself so as to not get in trouble. I' m aware of some of looks I've gotten. No doubt my scary resemblance to the tribute from my district from the sixty sixth. I'm not sure if he's my twin or a freak coincidence. I even met someone who called me by some other name. I shake my head waiting for the signal. Time to focus on my opponent. One hit knockout perhaps? I'd love to land such a strong punch to show my strength. When I get the signal I nod toward my opponent showing at least some amount of sportsmanship.

I felt the adrenaline pumping through my body ever since I woke up this morning. Today was the first day of boxing for the Panem Olympics, and I was thrilled as fuck. I couldn't wait to prove my skills on broad television without the chance of dying, not that I'd die in the games.

My first match was against some guy from 2. I knew that District 2 was another career district, so it was going to be a good match, assuming he actually trains.

I enter the ring. The only thing I hear is the screaming of the crowd. That's a lot of people. I'll make sure I'll give them the show they deserve. The bell rung and the match started. Let's do this.

I grunt as I take my place on the mat, still reeling over my loss to the little prick from One during the first round of wrestling. Sure, maybe my technique was a bit off, or maybe I just wasn't destined to win -- it doesn't matter, I still blame the little prick's taunting for my loss.

My name isn't fucking Hedwig, and I do not have performance issues.

I shake my head, sending my ponytail whirling around my face, and roll my shoulders. A loser or not, I still have enough confidence in myself to shake it all off -- I know I can dominate in boxing; I know I can.

I nod to my competitor as he takes his place across from me, this time choosing not to waste my time with saying a half-hearted "Good luck!" No. I'm going to need every ounce of luck in my body if I am to redeem myself.

The whistle blows, and I charge.

Elliot was a disappointment. He was awful. He lost in Sabre on Day 1. His opponent, some guy who sucked at life. He wasn't going to lose again. He lost at everything. He needed to win this. He needed to prove that he was a Birch and stronger than everyone else. He has been doing everything with his fists. HE knew how to fight better than most people in his district. He could sweep the floor with everyone. He could destroy everyone in minutes. He wasn't one to stop. He stretched and did what he needed to warm up. His heart was pumping and as soon as the whistle rang, he went into a frenzy. He was hoping to hit the guy he was going against. He wanted to ruin his pretty face and make it ugly.

BRODY V. NATHANIEL

Brody was more than a little bit restless.

He had already seen his opponent; Nathaniel Graives had a sweet boy-next-door face and dark eyes that were as nonthreatening as they could be... But that unmistakable Career build, lean with muscle and the way he carried himself, said he would pose an actual threat of winning (which was more than he could say for his first wrestling opponent).

The rush of adrenaline when his match was announced was unlike any Brody had ever experienced before; he raised his arms in the air to the cheering of the crowd, beating his gloved fists together and stepping into the ring. Sure, he was here to represent District 2 and the Peacekeepers and all that, but mainly he was here to represent his father.

He could imagine the scene back home; his parents would probably be down at the town square with the other quarrymen and stone masons watching the Olympics being shown on the big screen. Nolan and McKenna O'Rourke would be near the front, and his father would probably be standing up shouting at the screen as if his son could hear it hundreds of miles away. The residents around them would be taking bets, though nobody would dare bet against Brody within earshot of his father.

Then... there was the bell.

Strike hard, strike fast.

He doesn't have time to scan the crowds. In fact he doesn't have much time to do anything except smile and wave and gear up for his impending enslaught. Someone's been muttering battle strategies in his ears all morning - pretend it's someone you hate, all attack no defense (or was it all defense no attack?) - but it's all just a blur of nothing. Stress has never come easily to Nathaniel but he's no stranger to expectations and the weight that those carry upon his shoulders.

The O'Rourke kid steps up to his position and he faces his challenger. The guy looks pretty built but Nate is fast, calculated, patient. Most importantly, he's an expert on hiding the nerves that swarm through his body and fill his lung and chest as the bell sounds.

"Good luck, kid!" he chides - God knows he himself needs it.

So he does what he does best - smiles, and plunges into his fate.

Boxing, it was his brother's sport but he had spent enough time scrapping with his siblings to have picked up the technique. Besides, he couldn't let his brother get all the glory of beating people up. It would be fun, ducking in and out to punch someone in the face. He would be able to watch his opponent's face get more red even as he bruised it. A twelve year old could never get very far in a competition of strength, but if he used his speed and just didn't get hit, well then he would be able to do it. Watch me Tiger, it'll be you and me in the end. There was no way he could let his brother steal all the glory, not when he deserved it so much more.

Better watch out here comes the little one

With his heart still hammering out of rage and his fists clenches tirelessly, Xander walked out into the lights of the boxing facility. Xander was actually happy that this event was today now so he could take out his rage on his opponent. He couldn't begin to fathom the fact that he ran so slowly! Speed was suppose to be the ace up his sleeve but now he had gone and ruined it. Aparantly he had let his determination and focus slip, and now he would not let it happen again. Xander was back to being the Dark Horse and he knew it, but he was glad. Now he can go back to surprising everyone, especially in this event. He was a small twelve year old boy, no one would think he can win in boxing. Yet Xander had to prove them wrong he just had to!

As Xander slipped on his gloves and entered the ring all he thought about was the Hunger Games. He imagined himself in a fist fight with his opponent and only one of them could leave alive. His eyes stayed locked on his fellow tribute and when the bell finally rang he struck. And he wouldn't stop until his oppenent lay defeated beneath his shadow. Then his opponent spoke, "Show me what you got kid." and at first Xander was surprised but that ended after he was knocked back by his oppenents punches. Now Xander was amused, maybe this would be fun after all. "Alright bud, I think will." With than Xander winked and then lunged forward towards him.
