DECATHLON: 400M SPRINT

Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character on the starting blocks and running, and then paste the code [*roll=2000+5000] without the asterisks into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a time, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 5064 is read as 50.64 seconds)

The competitor with the lowest time wins this event. Times for this event will be continually updated on this thread; however, the overall decathlon standings will be updated on a separate thread.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

The Olympics were a disaster so far, it seemed. Milo wasn't getting first in everything like she expected, and she didn't understand why. Was fate angry with her? Was she always meant to be second best (or in this case, fifth-best)? Would she come in second when she eventually volunteered for the games? The thought of this was more than enough to terrify her.

Today was all about running from fear and embracing the future. Milo felt more determined than ever to be the best, and she carried this attitude as she positioned her feet onto the starting block.

She was ready to conquer, to win, to glorify...

Circe eyed her competitors more critically the second day of the Decathlon. The standings had been updated overnight, and she was doing okay. Just okay. If she was going to get Jamie's name back into the heads and hearts of Panem, she was going to have to do a lot better than middle-of-the-pack. Or at least, that's how second felt when presented with June's cosmic lead.

The green tea she'd had for breakfast felt like it had curdled in her stomach. She never could eat before running, but she would need to eat an entire cow if she had any chance at launching a javelin that afternoon. Poor planning, which of course she had pointed out to the coordinators. We'll take that into consideration for next year, as though that was any help at all.

Circe scanned the stands, looking for one man in particular. Perhaps it was him that had her stomach in knots, and not her competitors. The scoreboard flashed. She stepped up to the white line.

Her heart slammed against her ribcage as she crossed the finish line. It was all over so quickly, so neatly compared the endless high jumps. She smirked at the girl who had gone before her - another Birch, and it was a damn good thing they had a few backups. "Maybe you need to stretch your hamstrings a little more in the mornings, hmm?" Her voice rose, all nasal arrogance as her time ticked across the screens.

Xander's heart hit the roof when he saw his placement of fourth overall in the decathlon. He was so unsure of where he would be placed but now he felt better than ever! Fourth place, out of ten! Even with his failure at the High Jump he still had prevailed higher ranked than six others. A whole new kind of determination swept through his veins as he entered the stadium once more. Today was the second day of the Olympic Games and he was determined to shine. Not only did he have to run the 400m sprint he also had three other events! Today was guaranteed to be hard but he would not allow himself to concave under the pressure.

Today would start off with an event he believed would help but him in the lead. However, he knew he couldn't be cocky or underestimate his opponents. Today would be just like yesterday, a day to prove his worth, to prove his power to Panem. Just as before an announcer called the runners to their starting positions and Xander joined them. Last time he envisioned being chased by another tribute. Today as he closed his eyes, he was transported to a rocky and dangerous arena but that wasn't all. A tribute was fleeing fast away from him and he couldn't let her just allude him! With his heart hammering once more just imaging the thrill of the hunt, the gun rang out. Xander sprinted after the tribute his mouth craving the her blood and his sword wanting to remove her head.

Time flies by as Xander runs his spreads quickening but ceraintly not fading. Just as he reached his fleeing prey he raced over the finish line. Anxious to know whether he had succeed in his real life quest he raised his gaze towards the finishing times.

Xander nearly screamed at his horrendous time. Surely he would be last and surely he would fall in the rankings. Now he would have to work even harder to win. With a fist clutched Xander stood up and stormed off to the locker rooms.

The rules of the world tell me I'm destined to be worse than my brother. A retard like me is not suppose to be as good as a trained career like Ares, I'm suppose to be worse than him. But as my current standings I'm number 7, and when I last checked 7th is better than 8th. To be fair, Ares was in a fight to the death competition, not the olympics. But still, I'm doing better than him... unless you take into account that I'm only competing against 9 other people. So I want to do better, you can always be better, anyone can be better. That is what Ares believed in. Everything he believed in revolved around winning, so that is exactly what I planned on doing.

The 400 meter race will be awful, about one minute of sheer sprinting, it will be awful. Everything that happens leading up to this moment is not irrelevant, I know I really need to step up my game, make it through these next few minutes. But there are 9 other people here, it's clear that they are more than happy to leave me in the dust. These are true careers, and they will destroy me if I don't morph into one of them. So I take on the same intensity, and prepare myself for everything to come.

The shot rings out, and the world blends together, becoming streaks of color designed to distract me. Everything streaks together, and all that remains is the lines of the track incarcerating me, and I sprint between them.

Although the high jump had been a total loss yesterday, the one hundred metre sprint had gone much better for her. Where she'd been unable to make it over the second height, her speed had impressed many, according to one Inferno Bonaparte. She didn't particularly care for the boy but he wasn't a Grimm, he wasn't on the list. However, he might have to be added with the way he seemed to moon over Cerberus Grimm. Inferno looked like he'd take a bullet or two for the Grimm boy.

It wasn't something that should be on her mind right now. She needed to clear it, to focus. Her teachers had often taught her that the way to success was forged with a clear mind. She shut her eyes as she bent her body down into starting position, breathing in deeply through her nose and out through her mouth. She thought about Nero Grimm paying attention to this race and ridiculing her for her speed.

She could not have that. She would win. Fuck that guy, literally.

Her feet left the block as the starting gun went off and she was flying, feet barely touching in the ground as they pumped.

I need to do better, I need to do better. The words run through an infinite conveyor belt in my mind. Just playing over and over again. This whole competition feels like a broken record. Run here, throw here, jump here. I thought this would be something I lived for. Something I loved. But it pisses me off more than anything. A select few succeed. The other few make you wonder why they even showed up. Which category do I fall into?

Sprinting is something I can handle. Something I do at home when I have headaches. When I'm irritated. When I'm happy. When I'm hurt. Running has been a better friend to me than anyone else has. Does that say a lot about me? Or about everyone else in district two? I ready myself at the starting line, patiently awaiting the start signal to ring through my ears. My heart races and I wish they would just let me run already. And right when I finish that thought, the shot fires. And I'm off.

After her pitiful performance in the 100m, Elya was chomping at the veritable bit to make up for it in the longer 400m race. Hundredths of seconds mattered in the short sprints, and Elya's bum leg had locked up right at the start, giving her enough of a handicap to come in dead fucking last place. It was shit, but it was what it was. Nothing to be done about it, and no sense in hating herself for the shit performance. One-eye had enough hate in her already.

She cracked her neck and stepped up to the line. One lap around the track, how hard could that be? But the girl was too clever to deceive herself. The 400 was a treacherous distance: an endurance sprint more than anything else, it was too long to spend in a no-holds-barred, scorpion-hordes-in-pursuit dash — but it was so short that you were screwed if you lagged for longer than necessary.

Elya would have to time it just right...

...and she did. By nearly half a second, the damaged goods from District Two had burned them all. She allowed herself a triumphant smirk, and even tossed a few nods to the girls she'd bumped from first and second.
