My stomach was contesting the extra helping I had stuffed down my throat, complaining that I had eaten too much. It was a weird feeling, one that I hated even as I enjoyed it. For once in my life I had too much. It had always been never enough before - never enough bread, never enough money, never enough shelter or blankets or beds or love - and now I finally was able to see what it was like to actually have something. My stomach grumbled at me, angry that I had done something so shocking as completely stuffing it without letting it think about it first. Damn. I placed a hand over my belly, hoping to dull the noise a bit. I was sure I wasn't the only one with a sour stomach here, after all the District twelves probably hadn't been any better off than I had been, but it still felt like my loud stomach would call the attention of everyone on me.
I didn't know anyone who was sitting at the table near me. The few people I had met were sitting in places that were already surrounded by other people when I went to sit down and now I was here. Some boy sat to my left, I think he was the guy from Eight, and a girl, probably from Three, sat to my right. Directly across from me was the guy from Seven, and I had been taking only the smallest of glances at him during the entire meal. In truth I felt shy and isolated, away from anyone I could name and anyone I had spoken to before. Not to mention, with my grumbling stomach I wasn't exactly feeling one hundred percent. Maybe I really should have eaten more slowly.
I feel a foot kick me under the table and start, sitting up straight and looking at the faces of the five people nearest me to see if they had possibly done it. No one makes eye contact so there is no way to judge. Angry, and bothered by my rebelling stomach, I decided to do the sensible thing and kick at the person across from me. My foot connected with his shin and I kept myself from wincing even though it hurt. At this point I didn't care if it really had been him to kick me, I just wanted to have something interesting happen. Ellexias was nice and all, but she wasn't the type to trade blows with me for no reason - or anything else for that matter.
I leveled my eyes at the guy from Seven, sending him a challenge. Wherever the frustration was coming from, it was going to get me some punches. I just wasn't sure yet if I was giving or receiving them.
