Moments Aren't All That Can Be Stolen!blitz [Death]

Needless to say, Juniper looked far less than happy to see a Peacekeeper on her doorstep, let alone one holding her brother's arm in a vice grip.

"Oh my ripred! Mason?! What in Panem--? I am so so sorry officer for whatever it is he's done."

Though his fashion was typical Peacekeeper, Sam's intent was entirely different as he brushed past her inside the house, closing the door behind him and not quite realizing she didn't recognize him under the dark one-way visor of his helmet. He released Mason to take the bulky thing off and face Juniper, where she could properly see his face; it was an obvious intimidation tactic, to give no hints to the eye that the person under the armor and visor was, in fact, a person. It was a very effective one, and it was no wonder that Sam preferred to mingle with civilians in his plainclothes for that exact reason.

"He was tryin'a steal from that butcher that was hasslin' ya the other day... I don't think anyone else saw 'im."

Or if they had, maybe they had assumed Sam was already handling it.

The butcher was a miserable old bastard full of piss and vinegar, and had tried to levy a 'Whore Tax' on the meat Juniper had tried to buy in the market the other day; Sam had broken it up, and Sperring had ultimately refused to do business with the Slaggs. Apparently, this was par for the course with him.

Unfortunately, this was par for the course for many of the merchants towards the Slaggs; Juniper wasn't well looked-upon, and Sam didn't know what she had done that these people felt the need to show their scorn in such a manner, but there was only so much that once Peacekeeper could do. Besides, it wouldn't be unusual for those same merchants to make her life even worse when Sam's back was turned, if he tried too hard to stand up for her. In this district, the Peacekeepers were more relaxed and some were even well-liked, but Sam was new enough that he hadn't earned that reputation yet.

"C'mon, Mason," Sam chided, "You know Ol' Man Sperring's got it out for ya and yer sister, why'd ya go and take that risk? He's just lookin' for a reason to turn you in."

But god, he was reminded so much of Abel; he and Mason were roughly the same age, both of them troubled and restless and needing some kind of outlet for both. Abel had always had Sam, and Mason had Juniper, but unlike Sam and Abel being able to work together at the same job and on the same plot of land on which they lived, Juniper and Mason didn't have that benefit.
