"Dr. Nothing's Fair" [Alois Stein] Capitol | FIN

“What you’re doing isn’t fair Alois, they’re in pain.”
“Not fair? It’s not fair that we must age and die, it not fair that we must endure emotional trauma and that we’ve limits in life. Pain is a part of life; they knew what they would go through when they signed up. It is their choice…you stupid woman!”

Age has begun to do its work on Dr Stein’s appearance, after all forty five years on Earth will surely leave some marks. Stress lines as he calls them, run across his brow, a firm mark of his age and work. Sunken into his skull, somewhat un-aged brown eyes, his two trusty advisors in his work. Coating his body, a slowly winkling fair skin, untouched by ridiculous ink art; although a few marks are hidden across his body. Scars, marking significant stages in his life, now forever imprinted on his skin. Having the opportunity the eradicate such things, Alois decided to turn it down. Those marks are a resource to his life story, things he has been through and can prove.

Beginning to march across his hair, the typical greys are setting home on his head. Usually a citizen of The Capitol would typically invade the hair dye cupboards to eradicate such thing but Alois isn’t into the bright elaborate look; people usually go by. It’s hard to paint yourself bright, when you’ve a dark soul, soon that brightness can easily fade. Alois is at quite a towering height of 6ft 7; it helps with his menacing look. A smile rarely swoops across Alois’ face; any emotion inside him is invisible to the outside world. Suiting himself up usually in a smart uniform of a three piece suite, an ivory lab coat usually covers that; while he is at work.

Being in control is Alois only love in life. He loves to be on top of everything, superior to everyone, a leader of men; even if many think him more of a dictator. Alois has his own way of leadership, he dislikes delegating jobs, and he’d rather do everything himself. However the Capitol insisted he has colleagues in his work, so he has to just put up with it. If he is to give someone else a task to do, they must be well knowledgeable in the job and get it done; no questions asked. Many who’ve worked under Alois will describe him as a hard man, that’s why he’s had so many people under him, they don’t stick around long. To work under Alois, you mustn’t be: emotional, a nuisance, a questioner and a slacker. Then you may possibly have quite a good time.

Throughout the years, Alois has grown a grudge against the female breed of  human. From personal experience, he has decided them to be useless and too hard to work alongside. They're too controlling and it conflicts with his own controlling nature.Women like to question things and Alois does not like that.He believe they all have their own mothering traits and they should just stick to raising children.

Alois finds love a disease to the human mind, yes humans should reproduce but love gets in the way of things. Alois has witnessed many love affairs among his colleagues in the past and it has distracted them from their work. Many even threw away their careers, just for a fling with another human being. Alois finds it disgraceful, if we’re to be companions, it shouldn’t hold us back from more important things in life.

Lacking remorse for anything, his only number one care is himself. If he didn’t care about himself, he might as well be dead; everyone else comes third; after his work. Alois lacks any sympathy for his test subjects, they knew what they were doing when they signed up and they shouldn’t have become avoxes in the first place. They’re all just big slabs of meat to him and he’s the one with the knife.

Having been born in the Capitol, Alois struck gold with his birthplace, the most fortunate place in Panem. Life is expected to be easy in the Capitol, food, money and fashion galore. Alois had everything given to him on a silver plate and was spoon-fed with gold. Being the only child to Gainer and Auricular Stein, all attention was on him as a child. His father Gainer was a producer of Anti-aging creams the next best thing in the Capitol; at the time. While his mother Auricular was a stay at home mum, looking after Alois.

Alois was taught correct manners and communication by his mother and was expected to have a great etiquette around the house. Given chores to do, unlike many households in the Capitol that had their own staff, Alois had to do everything himself. From cleaning his room, to washing the dishes. His mother believed this hard work would teach him a work ethic and that he wouldn’t slack in the future.

Studying at school was probably the major factor for him to become interested in science. Forever intrigued with the latest experiments going on around the Capitol, Alois aspired to become one of them. Focusing mostly on the sciences at his school, he proved to know his stuff.

During his adolescence, a major life changing event occurred for Alois. When he became thirteen, he returned home to a domestic at his home, his mother hitting his father in the face. Screaming at him, she knocked him to the ground, continuing to kick him while he was there. The woman was furious. Trying to restrain his mother, she instead threw a hot cup of tea onto Alois, burning his chest. That was when the string of events occurred. Regularly, his mother began to lose control of her anger, mostly allowing it to fall on Alois and Gainer. Years past and Alois began to grow accustomed to it, allowing new bruises and scars to coat his body.

Eventually he finished his schooling at 18, so he tried to escape the situation. During his time at school, he didn’t have much of a social life, focusing mostly on his studies. The only people that knew about the domestics were him and his father. The day he told his mother he wanted to leave, was the day she became a raging bull. Beating Alois, demanding that he stay at home and take care of the house with her. Gainer stepped in to try and restrain the fight but Auricular hit him around the head, so hard that it caused life-changing injuries to Gainer. Fortunately, somebody heard the commotion in the house and the peacekeepers were called. Auricular was thrown into the detention centre while Gainer was sent to the medics. Unfortunately, Gainer had a lot of brain damage due to the blow so lost eighty percent of functionality in his body. Alois was left to look after the home himself, allowing medics to take care of his father.

Focusing mostly on his science ambitions, Alois wanted to try and fix what went wrong with his parents. Why did his mother lose her anger so suddenly? What caused it? Could he be able to fix that in other people? Also could he restore his father back to life? Maybe he doesn’t need the normal limbs, maybe Alois could install knew body parts into his father.

Stringing together lots of theories of fixing the human body physically and mentally, Alois began to research possible ways on doing such things.Throughout his initial theoretical studies, many approached him with their own ideas on upgrading humans. In-between working in labs creating medicines, Alois focused mainly on his side work. Until after twelve years working in medicines and surgeries, the Capitol created a programme similar to his work, Alois was quick on signing up.

For fifteen years, he has had avoxes volunteer for his experiments which are all just test dummies to him. Accompanying his work, he has many co-workers, some he regards as great and other useless. He doesn’t care about them, or the subjects, he just wants to accomplish his work. He wants to be able to fix his eighty six year old cabbage of a father and become an upgraded human himself. After studying his work for twelve years, Alois became interested in fixing himself once the experiments were over with. Maybe he could become immune, live for ever. He has a great big brain, that shouldn’t go to waste. Of course he would be first on the list for that surgery but who would he trust but himself to perform it?
