Week One: Axe Throwing

This'd been the first time in my lifetime the District has ever been kind enough to grace us with a form of entertainment in our dull, boring everyday lives. Much time has yet to pass since the conclusion of the Seventieth Games, and yet had much time passed since Stella was swept away from us, through force and involuntariness. However, it had crept into my mind as the time continued to run along, and the days and nights began to lapse into each other. It finally hit me that even though time would still go on and on and on, there is no amount of time that it would take to erase the pain.

"Stella would've loved this"

My lips curl up just a tad, my eyes not removing from their placing at the axes that hung so neatly in order. A sly remark wasn't on my agenda, nor was it necessary any longer. Had Stella still be here, perhaps she would join us some time, making the best of a troubled situation. A dead girl didn't deserve crude remarks thrown from a pit of frustration at a long lasted desperate attempt to be noticed, she deserved the betterment.

"Yeah-

Maybe."

Words left un-exchanged only form holes in places they miss. Holes that I was only capable of dealing with, a lot more than how others would, only due to being left with ones that rotted to the core my whole life. A lot tougher mentally than how others would perceive, I grew up on a life of learning that self pity only gets you no where. And perhaps only feeling sorry for yourself could get you anywhere in life, its only direction is stuck in reverse.


Tightly gripped hands wrapped around three wooden handled axes, a peeling bandage that stuck to my palm. My eyes wander to those who've gone before me, as they walk away with heads held high and scores only higher. It didn't bother me, or intimidate me, for I never felt satisfaction in winning. I've never had to win anything in my life yet, so why would this make it any different?


Coming here with nothing to prove, nothing to show, nothing special. I raise my dominant arm, a cocking position, before a lunge and a followed soar of an axe. A repeated, systematic process three times over, and I walk away from the post, pleased or unpleased. I never came here to win. I've never had to win at anything.
