whiskers & wet noses [Renly one-shot]

These past three weeks have been a change. I’ve gotten out of my routine of life and have done something enjoyable. I’ve met so many people, all foreigners to my familiar land. I’ve experienced something that I will probably never go through again, I am proud of me for stepping up to these Highland Games. Despite performing tremendously in the cheese roll and egg toss but I came out with a gold in the roulette and came runner up with my sidekick lover; Wynn.

I couldn’t quite believe that I won the egg roulette, I beat those seven other people in a game of luck, I must actually have it. Lately, I’ve been having all the luck; I’ve suddenly hit a part of my life which is lit up with happiness. It’s all because of Wynn of course. If I hadn’t of met him I’d still be stuck on the same path that I’ve always been walking. Somehow Wynn has lead me onto another road, a better, brighter, more maintained road and I am sure the destination at the end is a good one. I’m rising up in life and I am sure there will be nothing to send me plummeting back down. I’m on the road to happiness and it’s just a one-way ticket. There will be no breaking down or turning back, I’ll be going full steam ahead.

Oddly enough I collected up quite a lot of tokens in the games, which help pay out for prizes. Oh how great the prizes were. Sadly, I was enjoying obtaining the cheese roll but I was nowhere near close and I’d rather not recollect the moment. So many prizes to choose from, it was hard. Some wood, a cedar chest, seeds for my mother but one thing caught my eye…the little furry things. I was toiled between puppies and kittens but a triplet of puppies caught my eye. They’re now my puppies. My three little tokens to remind me of the three marvelous weeks, I have endured. They’re a bundle of love and I enjoy cuddling them but I know it will be hard to look after them. I have never owned a dog before, let alone three dogs! It will just be another adventure added to my road of happiness. However the hardest bit will be bringing them home, will my father accept them? He’ll just have to deal with it…unlike the other thing.

Pushing open the door, I’d walk into the house, the three puppies in my hand. Thankfully, they’re quite small so I expect them to stay that way. I have no idea what type of dog they’re but they’re cute and that’s what counts. Closing the door shut gently behind me, I’d wait for the first voice to call me. ”Is that you Renly?” I didn’t have to wait long. My brother is home and I can’t wait to see his face. Despite my father’s obligations for my choice of events, I am quite surprised he didn’t push Robbie into doing them. I am sure his lack of brains would’ve help him in the log roll, he’d only have to push his body forwards. ”What are those?” In disbelief, he stands pointing at the three adorable furry creatures in my hand. ”What do you think they’re?” I am surprised my brother has survived so long with the lack of common sense he has. I lack a lot of it but he lacks even more, it is quite unbelievable. ”If they’re from the highland games, dad will not be happy. He wanted you get a cedar chesh” Robbie is unable to pronounce “st” properly and it is still hard to not laugh at him. However at this occasion, the bitch pup licks my face so my attention is thrown elsewhere. ”He’ll just have to get over it.I was the one that won.”

I am still surprised I won, where has this sudden luck appeared from? I will happily lap it all up and with the hunger games coming up, I will need it to avoid reaping although I am sure my dosage of luck will save me. Hopefully I will be able to hand some other to Wynn to save him and even Robbie…Despite my great hatred towards him, he is still brother and I wouldn't want anyone I love to be sent into the arena.

Wandering to the stairs with the puppies still in hand, they’d begin to fidget a bit in my hands so I’d place them on the floor. Stepping onto the stairs, I’d begin to walk up, expecting the dogs to follow. Hurtling past me, the bigger dog with the black face and ears would already reach the top. ”Wow you’re fast, I’ll call you Ser Steak. Because I eat beef as fast as you move…and well you’re a bit fat.” Standing on the top of the stairs, I’d watch the other two, still sat on the bottom. The other dog would be trying to attempt to climb up the steps but fails as it rolls down to the bottom. Hurrying down towards it, I’d save the little dog before it hurts itself. ”Well you’re a bit silly aren't you, you’ll be Egg, ‘cause you’ll likely crack ya head.” Cradling the little tan faced dog, I’d look towards the small bitch. Mirroring her siblings with a white body, she has both a tan and a black face. Patting my leg, I’d encourage her to follow me up the stairs. Like a magnet she attracts to my command. Parading up the stairs, I’d guide my trio of cuties to my bedroom.

Placing them individually onto the bed, I’d sit with them. Egg curls up into a ball on my pillow; Ser Steak begins to roll around in the duvet while the bitch sits on my lap. ”Now what do I call you?”

I’ve never had to name anything before, let alone look after a living thing. Am I capable of taking care of these three puppies? This will be another great step on my road to happiness, learning to be responsible. I’ve never been able to prove it before, my dad thinks I am useless and well maybe taking care of these dogs will help me prove I am useful. I will exercise them, train them, feed them and even though I have no clue on how to start, I will figure it out somehow. Maybe I will ask Wynn for help.

Wynn, Wynn has been a big influence on my life at the moment and I am fearful to share it with my parents. I know my mother may likely understand but will dad? I don’t care what Robbie will think, it will be stupid anyway. I just need them to understand. To understand that I have found my soul mate, my true love, even if he is a boy. If they want grandchildren, I am sure Robbie will pump out some degenerate creatures for them. But I am in love with Wynn and nobody’s opinion will change that.

”I’ll call you Gift.” Patting the bitch that sits on my lap as she stares quite terrifyingly into my eyes, I’d smile. ”Gift because you’re my gift from my new light in life and I am sure you’re the sweetest of the three.” Glancing to the two others, I’d lay flat on the bed, my legs dangling over the other side. The bitch would follow suit and curl up on my chest. Closing my eyes, I’d relax, pleased with my recent accomplishments.”Ser Steak, Egg and Gift...”
