The rupture of wings bashing through the thick sea air continues to imprint on my memory. Her limbs are still plummeting to my feat, and her screech prolongs in my senses. She didn’t murder our friends, but she died as though she had. Everyone littering my path will receive this raft. Revenge will be sought until all living beings are demolished, reassuring me that I’ve slaughtered each potential criminal. There’s little evidence in who killed them, meaning they all must suffer.

“Do not mentally invest yourself into anyone. They’re all chess pieces, just as you are.” Mr. Foster would stress repeatedly, solely caring about the strong pawns he may hold. If only he knew that connection with others is just as powerful. My fuel is sponsored by death, and not investing wouldn’t conceive such a passion. Do you realize that now? Have I proven that his tactics are wrong? Are you changing your strategy? Perhaps returning home is the only way to convince you.

As determined as I was Yesterday, I proceed today with my head held high. The need for blood lingers on the tip of my tongue. I’m now desperate to encounter a battle. More deaths must occur for this War to finally halt to a conclusion. It’s okay now. The ones I love must fight beside me. I can’t afford fretting over the results that may conspire. I must continue my path of resistance.

My wish has arrived. Just as the day before, and the day before, a threat awaits us patiently. This is the Game, and I’m not surprised in the least. “Well then…” I mutter quietly to the others, while a conniving grin spreads across my face. With an anxious pace my weapon bounces against the ground, craving to create more destruction. “Ready for the next round?” Because I most certainly am.

Again hesitation doesn’t join as I dodge straight into this new match. Fear has lost existence for a while now, and there’s no changing that. My weapon is introduced first, quickly followed by myself. There’s no assuming this will cause satisfaction, but my blade will most certainly try.

Night came and went. A single face showed in the sky. And Tyler was thoroughly disturbed.

Disturbed at how, in his rage-fueled determination to save his friends the day before, he had beheaded the great beast, ending its artificial life with one smooth stroke. Perhaps a merciful death in comparison to death by severed limbs, but still, a kill.

Tyler's first.

Disturbed at how easily the steaming blade had cleaved through muscle and vertebrae like nothing, separating head from shoulders like some bloody monarch of old. And now, the blond boy was in possession of said head, like some gruesome trophy not unlike the arms of Leo and Jequirity.

Next had been the sudden, rather horrifying death of pantheraibell.

Maybe death wasn't the right word to describe the passing of a creature made of mist, but from the high-pitched keening and the way that the majestic beast had writhed in pain, Tyler felt that death was pretty accurate.

He had only known his silvery companion for a day, but it had played a crucial role in the battle with the beast. Besides, nothing deserved to die that painfully.

Nothing and no one.

He had just finished reapplying tar to his weapon when the Careers struck.

Once second, there had been silence, which was pretty normal nowadays. Daria rarely made a sound to begin with, and even Heather had been shocked into silence by the passing of the mist creatures. She personally had been a lot closer to hers than Tyler had been with his, and to her it must have felt like loosing a close friend instead of a passing acquaintance.

If it hadn't been for Ahooga, bless Ripred, the blond boy likely would have been impaled on a weapon much like his own.

Luckily for him, the word honked at just the right moment, a loud, shrill melody. Tyler looked up from his sitting position just in time to see the girl bearing down on him. Out of instinct more than anything, he swung his weapon in retaliation, knocking it to the side. Despite that, the girl's weapon still bit skin, leaving a mark just above his hipbone.

The boy himself barely felt anything, adrenaline coursing through him. Jumping to his feet in record time, he cried out a quick warning to his allies, before refocusing his attention back on the girl.

In one smooth fluid motion, Tyler withdrew a single match from his kilt pocket. Striking it alight, the blond boy once again set his weapon ablaze, metal burning brightly in the dappled sunlight of the trees.

This wasn't a fight for revenge like the numerous clashes with Jequirity and her numerous allies.

This was a fight for survival.

God damn, she looks hot when she's pissed of.

His fingers, white knuckled upon the scythe, his dark gaze flickering around the glen. Trees loom high overhead, their fingers outstretched, casting darkness as they walk. His jellyfishdragonthing clings tightly, a scarf draped over his shoulers, it's muzzle pointing forward as it growls and sways its wings in the gentle gusts. A hand lifts, and pets the creature's nose as he follows Ruth forward, tight jawed and uneasy.

He says nothing, but the absence of footsteps following behind him lifts his hair on end. This is it then- the two of them were alone. No Taurus, no Neptune, no Jequerity. They fend for themselves now, and his body struggles with hte concept- what was once so strong and unbreakable slowly crumbles to the earth, but he remains, standing tall, protective, with a terrible, horrible weapon.

She charges headlong, just as she always does, and he inhales sharply.

"I love you."

Prior to light even being provided, I’m sprinting towards my new target and my weapon’s performing the rest. At this moment he’s faceless, only another Tribute that must be demolished, but still he’s my next victim nonetheless. I listen closely as he refuses to absorb my minor attack as an actual threat, and instead retrieves his own blade for retaliation. That’s when the flame ignites, leaving me with a conniving grin towards him, despite the situation at hand. Well he has most certainly heated things up.

The Glaive engulfed in fire brutally slices against my right arm; exactly where a light wound resides from Yesterday’s battle. Blood splashes and combines with the blaze, but it only fuels me in return. Even as a second Opponent joins the mix, carving just as much trauma across my chest, I reject any sensation of a mistake. Apparently we’ve encountered the other Couple in the year’s Game. It’s unfortunate that protecting my own Love is far too valuable, because only one duo can survive for so long. Sympathy doesn’t join me, as much as it probably should.

“Deepest apologizes, but only one Couple can last through tonight.” It’s the truth that none of us want to hear, but we’re destined to reach this fate much sooner then we’d prefer. Will it be us to get torn apart too early? It’s doomed to eventually occur. But I will still give every fiber of my being to remain with him for as long as possible. Just as before and before, since first being trained as a Career nearly seven years ago, I spring for another attack without any concern over reprisal.

Tyler's discovery of the day was that fire indeed does work better on human flesh than coarse demon mutt fur.

At least that was the case for the moment, as the flame surrounding the bloodstained blade of his halberd flickered momentarily. Right now, it was burning bright, casting shadows left and right throughout the glen. But one wrong move, one bad swing, and it would be extinguished forever, never again casting its light and warmth.

It was not so different from life in that sense.

Tyler winced as first the boy, then the girl struck at him again. It made sense that he would be the one targeted; he was the one who could see, after all.

But the Careers had obviously never seen Heather Tenley fight ever since she had lost her eyesight, and the girl payed for that grievously, as her chest absorbed the majority of Heather's blade.

Despite that, she was still standing.

Tyler had to give the duo credit. Not only were they attacking in perfect synchronization, but despite the girl taking a slash to her arm, a hit to the chest, and most likely some sort of burn from the flaming metal, they were still giving off an air of confidence and superiority.

Tyler and Heather may have gotten lucky with their first strikes, but they were also going up against two people who had been doing this stuff for far longer than he had.

These were veterans of combat. Tyler had merely adopted slashing things; these two had been born into it, molded by it.

But that didn't mean that Tyler had to give up without a fight.

The thought hovers on the edges of his consciousness as his stance wavers, sharpened teeth and constricted pupils he hasn't seen for nearly a week- that face wasn't yet hovering in the sky.

And neither was Ruth's.

Today of all days my blade decides to go dull. The attacks continue to spiral, but it’s my Exterior that proceeds to rip the deepest. Even as my aim remains as keen as ever, the final results are not to my liking. It has to be now that I lose touch with my vicious Career motives? No. My fight refuses to be damaged as well. His vicious object of demise bites across my leg, more light flames being left in its path. Only the ultimate result of death will destroy me though.

To no surprise Septys is immediately seeking revenge. Blood pursues to seep from my skin, but my Eyes don’t falter from admiring just how strong he truly is. They have to harm me to reach him after all. He’s untouchable, as I always knew he was. A blade carves against my throat, forcing my attention from my Love and my brain from the Clouds. Instantly I’m clutching the gruesome agony consuming my neck. Right, this is the Game. How much longer can we all truly remain anyways?

My vision swirls before me, though still my focus doesn’t budge from our threat. It feels as if my body is swaying with the brutal breeze nipping at our touch, but I won’t give into the freeing sensation. They may have managed to demolish me, but they will not even get close to Septys. I will endure combating until my very last breath. For him, I will gladly sacrifice my own life.

Pain lingers across every inch of my body, yet somehow I don’t even consider collapsing to my dissolution…not at this exact minute. A wicked grin captures my lips once again, as I viciously stare at the Blonde female from Seven. At the end of this, she’ll also feel the unforgivable heartbreak they want to provide to Septys. We’ll all be left shattered and alone, no matter what the outcome may be. But hopefully I can prevent Septys from breaking, just for a little bit longer.

Metal sinks into flesh. Flesh is torn, drawing blood. Blood spills, coating the vibrant green grass a shade of crimson red.

Tyler's attack had been subpar at best, but Heather's not so. Maybe her lack of sight took away any of the self imposed restrictions that the blond himself had, as he purposely aimed for places that would cripple, not kill. Such had been the case with Leo Everitt, as his arm had been severed from his body.

Such an event, of course, had led to his death the very next time the two had met.

Regardless, it was with a mixture of shock, disgust, and an ever present sense of awe that Tyler watched the blind girl mercilessly slice through their opponent's throat, opening a new waterfall of red to spill onto the ground. A waterfall spilling out far too quickly for any normal wound.

Career or not, the girl was dying. Another life ended because of Tyler and his alliance.

The girl herself seemed dazed, almost shocked. Like it was impossible for her to believe that she had indeed just suffered defeat at the hands of a mere pair from two subpar districts.

Like it was impossible to believe that her life was ending.

Tightening his grip on the hilt of his halberd, somehow still flaming despite everything, the blond boy watched as the girl's eyes cleared, focusing an intense, startling gaze at Heather. A stare that chills him down to his bones, for despite everything that she's been through, the girl is still able to call upon her Career training, focusing her last bit of strength into her eyes. If looks could kill, Heather would have been shot down like Gunner La Torre.

The girl shifts her gaze to Tyler, a wicked, devilish grin spreading across her face. The Career is bleeding from several different places along her body, has patches of skin burnt black from Tyler's flame, and has blood gushing nonstop from her throat, and she smiles.

For the first time in the entire Games, Tyler Westbrook is completely and utterly scared.

The girl lunges forward, and it is clear she is fading. Her strike is sloppy, wild, yet Tyler is caught so off guard that the tip of her weapon grazes his forearm.

Blood pouring from her throat, and she still has the self control to wound him.

The girl has stopped now. Perhaps the blood loss is finally starting to affect her, or maybe she has finally accepted her fate. She is right next to Tyler, a result of her wayward strike.

The boy is too far away to assist. All it would take is one strike.

The blond boy lifts his weapon, arms trembling, ready to swing.

And yet, for one terrible moment, Tyler Westbrook hesitates.

This is a perfectly ordinary person, just like you, Tyler.

The only thing she did wrong was end up in the same predicament as you. Chosen for a contest that she was likely never going to leave.

How could you possibly rob her of her life? Her boyfriend of her?

And while deep down, he faintly remembers that this girl is a Career, and that she likely chose this for herself, Tyler Westbrook still hesitates.

It is the pattering of blood that makes the final decision for him.

The girl's throat was slit. All it would take would be a few minutes, maybe less, and she would soon pass out from blood loss. A few minutes more, and her cannon would sound.

It would simply be cruel to let her suffer such a fate.

And as Tyler tenses his muscles for the swing, the thought that by committing such an act, committing murder, he is one step closer to home.

To kill, he would have to be emotionless. He would have to let his brain run the show, suppressing his inner morals and doubts.

He would have to be....

Ruthless.
