I realize I am not necessarily the best person to be helping with this part of the process. There's only so much a software guy can do. I can hold screws and bolts and hand tools and soldering irons, but that's about the extent of my abilities.

Our shed smells like old wood and heated metal as Jasper works his magic on our invention. I'm sure the Capitol has things like this-- but imagine if we figure out how to make loads of these for the rich folks around these parts. We can kiss tummy rumbles good-bye.

"How're things going?" I ask Jasper, curling my fingers around the coil of lead he'd been using to solder the circuits together. "This one gonna work?"

The machine that stood in front of him was open. Screw, bolts, circuits, and gears sat in their places like they were supposed, but Jasper knew there was something missing to it. Jasper just had the feeling come up into his head. His brain was checking everything in his head for what was missing. A screw was the answer eventually. His hand reaching back and grabbing a screw. His hands slowly screwing in a piece of machinery into it's place.

"How're things going?" Click's voice filling the rather hot shed that they were in. Jasper looking up for a second to smile at the other boy, his hands coiling circuits together quietly for that moment. Another smile at Click again. Jasper's eyes focusing back onto Click, his mind filling with all of the good things that'll happen if their machine works. Jasper can have money and finally quit his job at the Orphanage. The Orphanage would always have a special place in his heart, but Jasper didn't want to be stuck their forever.

Click's voice rings out again as Jasper reaches for another bit of coil, "This one gonna work?" Jasper smiled at Click and his hand brushing Click's as he reaches for more coil. Lots and lots of circuits that needed coiling together. Jasper spoke now with hopefulness, "It has to work. I have no doubt in my mind that it wont work."

My breath hitches slightly and I pray to Ripred he didn't notice. That he can't hear my heart pounding against my ribs. That I'm not turning into the space heater stuck in one corner of the shed. That he doesn't notice I'm sweating like a disgusting pig-- but it's not from the heat. I want to take off my sweatshirt but I'm afraid.

I'm afraid and he can never know. Conceal. Don't feel. Deep breaths. Deep, fake breaths. You're okay. You're not attracted to him. You can't smell the soap clinging to his skin and his hair. The smell of the detergent used to clean his clothes. You can't see those lips that move and tempt and-- oh god.

"It has to work," he says. "I have no doubt in my mind that it won't work."

"You mean you have no doubt that it will work?"

Setting down one coil of cables, I pick up another and turn it in circles in my palm. "What will you do with your portion of the money when we sell it?"

he must never find out.

His hands were busy at work. Coil and circuits. Coil and circuits. The feel of creating something was making electricity run through his body, or maybe it was something else, but honestly Jasper didn't care either way. The electricity felt good on him. It was brightening his dim life in a way that mattered. A sound comes from Click. A sound like he stopped breathing for a second. Jasper turned around and watched for a second before turning back to the machine.

His friend's voice came out to cut the small tension that Jasper felt was there, "You mean you have no doubt that it will work?" Jasper coughed at that. His mind was racing for that sentence and he had no clue why he said it wrong. Nerves were a possibility, but Jasper wasn't afraid of anything, well almost anything. There was only one thing he was afraid of and no one would know about it unless there. There were flaws that no one needed to know. His eyes focused on Click and Jasper said, "Y-Yeah, I meant that."

Jasper smiled at Click as he decided a break would be nice for the both of them. The shed was hot and Jasper disliked the heat, but it was needed or else they would be cold and Jasper rather preferred heat to the cold. "What will you do with your portion of the money when we sell it?" It was a great question and Jasper had a few answers to it. An idea of what he'd do if he was rich or had the money to do things. A smile forms on his face. His feet move and he walks past Click with a brush of the arm and looks at some papers that had an outline that they had made earlier. Jasper replied finally, Honestly, I don't really know. I feel I'd use some of it to buy myself a place. Maybe a bit of it to buy parts and things for other machines so I can make more things with you, of course. Maybe give some to the orphanage I grew up in, if we made enough. It all depends on how much we make too. I'd prefer the continuing of working with you. If that's something you'd like?" Jasper pulls up a natural smile and goes back to his spot in front of the machine. He asks in a normal curious tone, "What about you, Click? Any plans with your portion of the money?"
