Dusk had barely begun as Leonidas opened his tired eyes. The quiet beeping of his alarm next to him was the only thing he was aware of as he struggled into consciousness. As his eyes began to slowly shut once again to squeeze in an extra five minutes of sleep, he remembered with a jolt why he was waking so early. He was finally going to get to visit the 55th Hunger Games arena.
His eyes snapped open as excitement began to course through his veins. The Pacific Ocean was a place that he had longed to go to ever since learning about it in school, and the history of the 55th Hunger Games satisfied his blood lust. Tickets to this event, however, were hard to come by as the arena was open seasonally, shutting its doors when winter comes around. Tickets get booked months in advance and sell out minutes after the markets open. Leo began to dress chuckling to himself as he remembered how he received his own tickets.
His friend was going with another a man named Evren McAdams, who Leo had seen several times at parties, but never formally met. Unfortunately, his friend was now too sick to go so he kindly gave over his own ticket to Leo knowing how badly he wanted it. How this friend got sick is another story. Leo knew he was going and was desperately jealous, Leo also knew of his friends intolerance to gluten, an intolerance that was strong enough to keep him in bed at home with stomach pains for the next two days. So Leo had him over for dinner and fed him the wrong type of pasta, by accident he would assure him over and over again. Regardless of whether or not he was believed, the deed was done and Leo now had a ticket.
He finished getting ready in an excited hurry, before rushing out the door to the place where he was told to meet Evren. The sun was still rising as he drove, throwing pink and orange beams of light through his windshield. After driving too long in Leo’s opinion, he arrived at a hovercraft hanger, parked crookedly in his haste, and then got out to look for his travel companion. Walking in through the giant, metal door he found a crowd of people milling around waiting to board the vehicle. He walked around in a loop, looking for someone with piercings and tattoos.
“Hey!” Leo called out after spotting him. “Evren?”
