"I don't know," said Syrena with a sly smile. "Kellan probably isn't interested in parties anymore. Not unless Pyrite is there."

He clenched his jaw. It was true that, recently, he hadn't exactly been himself. More specifically, he hadn't had sex with anyone other than Pyrite in months, which was actually pretty damn weird. Still, Syrena was an outsider and also not known for being a usual customer in the party scene. It was clear that she was trying to press his buttons, and he was more than okay with fighting back.

"Or maybe I just don't want to go because you'll be there, Syrena." She rolled her eyes. "Unlikely. I'm wonderful company."

"According to... You, I'm guessing?" He fired back.

"All I'm saying is that you guys are clearly more than either of you wants to admit."

"No, we ar-" the doorbell interrupted him and he cursed under his breath. Today, he and Pyrite were supposed to be teaching a class of ten year olds hand-to-hand combat techniques.

"Speaking of," Syrena chimed.

"Shut up." Kellan retorted.

He opened the door and there she was: tall, pale, and ever-beautiful.

"Miss Shore," he said under his breath.

What doesn't kill you makes you-

mad.

wild.

desperate.

terrified.

He frightens her. Maybe that's why she can't stay away. Being feared isn't knew to her. But feeling fear? It's a high she can't come down from.

There's a fine line between being a junkie and being an addict. She watched herself topple over to the other side and didn't even blink.

She's not kidding herself anymore.

There's an anticipation drumming through her as she rings the doorbell, head held high by her own accord, not the strings of her parents or her reputation or anything else. Control lies in her hands now and it spreads like wildfire. A new coat of armor for a warrior afraid, but not of herself.

She expects a smile, or at least a smirk, but gets a low "Miss Shore." It catches her off guard but she doesn't falter - stepping past Kellan into the grand home with a nod and a smile. "Mr. Fray" she whispers back, grinning like she knows something he doesn't.

Like she knows there's no going back from here.

As she stepped inside, he closed the door with one hand. He glanced around quickly to make sure Syrena's smart ass hadn't come after him to put her nose where it didn't belong. With his other hand, he tipped Pyrite Shore's chin up and closed his lips around hers.

When they parted, he smiled. Briefly.

"You look exceptionally gorgeous today." He whispered.

They still had a few hours until they had to be down the street to open the Training Center. If it were anyone else, he would have been annoyed that they were there so early, and infuriated that he would be expected to keep them company. But in the case of Pyrite Shore, he strangely had to fight the urge to smile.

As they walked past the kitchen, Syrena poked her head out.

"Oh, hi Pyrite," she said sweetly. Kellan eyed her, waiting for her to say something stupid. He almost hoped she did, because then maybe he would have gotten to watch Pyrite kick her ass.

Syrena was good at what she did, but Pyrite would always be better.

"What time are you guys supposed to head out?" is all she said though, and Kellan was actually a bit disappointed.
