born from dark water { valor/sylvia ; blitz }

I had a dream last night that I was eaten by a wolf. It snuck up on me with bloodied fangs and a fur coat as thick and dark as the night that surrounded me. I tried to run, but a dank mixture of blood and mud kept my feet swirling uselessly against the encroaching creature. It growled; I screamed but no sound escaped. The only thing that I could hear was the screeching of children in the distance and the growl of the wolf behind me. It lunged--

I woke in a pool of my own sweat, eyes wide and searching the corners of my room for monsters that hid there. Of course I found none, but the woods suddenly seemed a scary place to roam and the night a blanket of fear and terror.

When morning came I was relieved, tired, and itching for a hand to hold. But the likelihood of finding someone willing to comfort me in this household was slim. My best bet was simply to roam the house and let the familiarity of he walls and corridors comfort me.

And so I begin the journey, twisting and turning until my heart slowing begins to calm itself. That is until I imagine every creak of the floorboards as a growl and every window holding a peeping monster. So when I find my aunt sitting across the room I nearly run to her with relief. It's simple. All I really need is to get my mind off of the nightmare.

"Can you tell me a story?"
