They say a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but what if you don't have a name to begin with? My mother gave birth to me at home, in the bath tub. She didn't tell anyone for months and by then it was much too late to register with the proper authorities. No one in the glittering society of the Capitol cared. After all, it wasn't like I'd ever be entered in the reaping.

Once I was old enough to be presentable, my mother braided my long blonde hair, dabbed mascara over my stubby eyelashes and tried to conceal my elfin nose with contouring. She paraded me around the Capitol, hoping to catch the eye of a suitor with the last name Snow.

It didn't work.

Like her, I've been doomed to spinsterhood. Unlike her, I've given found my voice. People might think I'm shrill when I talk and that I gossip too much, but they love to read my blog. And who I am, really?

That's one secret I'll never tell.
