It still shocks me that my name was drawn from the ball. Out of everyone in the district, my name was chosen. In the distance I can see his face glaring at me with an evil smirk spread across his lips as his evil plan unfolds. President Snow is a cruel man, and he wants to see people suffer otherwise the hunger games wouldn't even exist. And this is an example of what happens when a district becomes too hopeful. The odds of returning home are so slim, and I wouldn't put it past him to make sure no sponsorships got through to me or Carrita. Having three victors in a row brings hope, and it's obvious that hope cannot exist in the world - hope destroys all in its path, and Katelyn, Kirito, Harbinger, and district eleven have found this out the hard way. When things don't go according to Snow's plan, why not crush the victors by destroying the one thing they hold close?

A silent sigh escapes my lips. It seems so unreal that just this morning I was standing happily in the house fixing breakfast with Tobias. Not once did I worry about the reaping or the games, yet it all changed in the blink of an eye. And here I am now being led to the slaughter house. To think that I'm only a pawn blocking the way of the perfect world destroys me, and knowing I can't do anything about it only makes it all worse.

Yet somehow Kirito managed to win when all the odds were against him, but I'm not Kirito. I'm not strong like him. I'm not brave like him. How can I be? He grew up too fast from a young age. His life went to the crapper all those years ago, and now he's a victor - a god in the eyes of many, but to me he's Kirito. The same Kirito I've known my entire life. Sure the games changed him, and I placed him on a pedestal as a higher being, and I wanted to follow his footsteps to become like him, but now that I'm here I don't want to follow him anymore. If only I knew I would be following him to the Capitol, I wouldn't have followed him at all. Had I known this was my fate, I would've tried to change it. But nothing can change the past.

All I have now is the future no matter how bleak it seems..

Oceans dried and the earth split as the entropy that had once sat at by upon Kirito's shoulders now consumed his existence. Kirito's heart raced as the whispers of Kiri transformed into roars. Anger surged like poison through Kirito's veins as water welled from the corners of his eyes. Kirito felt his vision blurring as his feet thundered through the halls of the Justice Building. Voices called out through the mists of red that sorrow that swelled against Kirito's mind. Finter, Katelyn, Navya he could hear them all but only one person stood like a beacon through the storm Kirito now found himself fighting aboard a sinking ship. Snow had rigged the reaping and now intended to kill not only Iain who shared the same blood that coursed through Kirito's heart but a thirteen year old girl barely old enough to be called a teenager at all. Kirito had never been a traitor but the things that swirled like smoke above his hellish thoughts were nothing less than treasonous.

Static reached Kirito's ears as several peace keepers moved in swiftly to intercept his current path towards the room Kirito knew Iain was now within. Kirito felt that darkness that was quaking within his fists explode as he swiftly kicked his leg out knocking one of the peace keepers to the floor. Then Kirito found his volcanic nature reaching yet another cataclysmic eruption as the other Peace Keeper suddenly dove to stop Kirito's next movement however only the loud scream of Kirito's voice is what followed his unwarranted assault. "Do not even dare lay a single fucking hand on me or I so help me will rip that hand off! You have absolutely no fucking right to stand between me and my cousin now move the fuck over or do I need to remind you of who you are dealing with!"

At first silence hung like a heavy sheet following Kirito's roar and he couldn't help but wonder if Circe would have approved of his explosion. Never once had Kirito used his title in the way he just had but for a reason known as Iain he couldn't find a reason to care. All that Kirito could process was sitting only feet away behind a door Kirito had every right to open. Not to mention Kirito wasn't happy about having to even come close to any of Snow's pathetic peace keeping guard dogs. Only now did Kirito understand just what methods the horrific serpent that ruled Panem would go to in order to keep his "peace."

Finally the silence was ended as Kirito watched the peace keeper he had screamed at assist the other one out of sight leaving the door available for Kirito to enter. Yet as Kirito's fingers wrapped themselves around the cool metal handle he felt himself begin to quiver not of anger but out of regret. Tears once again threatened to tip over the edges of Kirito's eyes but he refused to let them fall. Kirito was suppose to be strong and he was suppose to protect his family and he had failed. The least he could do was act like a man, and a victor, when he faced the family member he felt he failed the most.

As Kirito pushed the door open and let it close quietly behind him he the regret and sorrow in the pit of his stomach multiple when he spotted Iain. Iain was nothing more than a boy and yet now he had to be turned into a man killing machine. Kirito had undergone the unholy metamorphosis resulting in the birth of Kiri and now Kirito had to face the horror of his younger gentler cousin producing the same evil within him. Kirito's words froze on his tongue as his eyes froze on Iain's and in a sudden motion he pulled Iain close to him and let his arms wrap tightly around him since Kirito no longer knew how many more times he could.

"I...Iain I am so sorry. This is my fault its all my fault. I should have found a way to protect you all better and I thought winning was enough. I'm suppose to keep you all safe and now I have to guide you through this. Don't you worry though Iain I am going to do everything and I do mean everything, to get you back home here in Eleven."

Standing on this side of the table is an entire different story. Just two years ago I stood at the door begging Kirito to return home knowing that he would have to kill in order to survive, but at that moment it didn't matter, and to this day it makes me feel selfish. Wishing death upon twenty-three children was unwarranted, but here I am today feeling the exact same emotions; only this time fear and sorrow plunge through my hollow bones.

I can hear the uproar in the hall, yet I don't move from this spot. My hand trace the lines of the fabric on the chairs and tables. Never once since the dreadful two years ago did I imagine myself standing in this same exact room, and now I can only wait as whoever wants to say goodbye comes through the door. Part of me wonders who will come next, but at the same time I dread it. Sorrow sits heavily in my chest as the door opens, and standing in my view is Kirito.

My heart plummets deep into the pit of my stomach. It's hard to look at him, but I can't take my eyes away from him. And I feel myself breaking the moment he embraces me. I have so many questions I want to ask him, but I'm not sure even where to begin. Ghosts of the past whisper through the darkness as they prepare to welcome me into their dominion.

And I listen as he spoke. He apologizes, and he blames himself. But it's not his fault. Kirito never knew this would happen - nobody did, yet here we are. Frozen in time. Trapped in a world. Tears fall down my face as I place my forehead on his chest feeling the constant rise and fall with each breath he takes. "Kirito..." My voice trails off, and I can't bring myself to speak. A storm rages throughout the district. It started the moment Kirito stepped out of the arena alive, and now it's turned into a hurricane threatening to break the district in half.

Every word catches in the back of my throat; I've never been good at speaking, yet it always seems when I need to speak, my words fail me. But hidden somewhere deep inside, I can feel the words forming on the tip of my tongue. Inhaling sharply, I find the will to speak even though it's not much. "I'm scared. I'm so scared."

Kirito felt his body trembling as he held tightly onto Iain as though both of their lives depended on it. The world around Kirito seemed to fade away as all he could think about was the boy who he now held in his arms. Although anger still thundering its way through Kirito's body with every beat of his heart, he felt his endless sorrow even more than he had before. Wrapping Iain so closely to his chest Kirito felt as though he could fend off the entire world, and for Iain he would. For his family Kirito would even sacrifice his own life. Part of Kirito wanted to run straight to a phone to call President Snow demanding that he take Kirito's life in exchange for Iain's. Yet Katelyn had gotten to him before he ever even came close. So now here he was with his arms wrapped around Iain as though he were shielding him from hailing bullets.

Just outside the door Kirito could hear the muffled sound of boots announcing that the uninjured peace keeper must have returned to his post. In all truth Kirito didn't really care about the actions he took to reach Iain now that he was with him. Right now all Kirito cared about was knowing that Iain was safe. Along with wishing that he could awake in several moments to realize everything was just a horrid dream, but then again if it wasn't horrid it wouldn't be life. It would seem that after all this time Kirito finally understood reasons beyond the games to hate the Capitol and Snow. Kirito could only wonder if one day he would become just a Patricia was with wanting nothing to do with the Capitol or anyone affiliated with it.

The sound of Iain's sobs pulled Kirito from his distant thoughts as his heart once again fell with an iron thud to the floor. When Kirito saw people upset he felt upset as well, but this time was entirely different. Iain was terrified and was looking towards a future filled with nothing but horror. His thoughts were only of the awful things that awaited him and the excruciating pain he would undergo. Undoubtedly Iain wondered whether a canon and his face illuminated against the stars was the fate that laid calling his name. Kirito knew because he had been the exact same way only a few short years ago. Kirito was eighteen yet standing here with Iain's tears soaking his chest he felt older than ever. Victory was never a blessing, and now it was the biggest curse that had ever greeted Kirito's life, even more than the one that stole his Father.

When Iain's broken voice finally reached Kirito's false ears it confirmed what Kirito expected. So with a deep breath Kirito forced himself to remain steady like the support he was suppose to be, like the support he had to be. Gently Kirito removed Elya's eye patch which he always wore on Reaping day and separated just slightly from Iain as he held it up for him to see.

"The girl who originally wore this eye patch was Elya Johnwayne. She was unlike any person I had ever met because although she wore this, she saw the world clearer than anyone else. Now surely you are wondering why I am telling you this. Well the reason is because I want you to look ahead not thinking about what could happen but about just waking up tomorrow. Now I know you are scared and believe me I was too, hell I still am. I am scared for my family, I am scared for Katelyn, for Navya, for Harbinger. Its okay to be scared because life can be a scary thing, especially when you are lined up for the games. But if you try to look at it from a different angle, you will still be scared but you might also see something more as well. I am going to help you in every way possible Iain so when you step into that Arena there won't be any surprises. You are a special kid Iain and you have a bright future ahead of you. There ain't no way in hell I'm letting them steal that from ya. Got it?"

The thundering sound of my broken heart echoed through my mind as I held on to Kirito not wanting to let go of him. Tears streamed down my face drenching his shirt, and my hair plastering it against the side of my face. Snot was trying to drip from my nose, but I refused to let it because it would only ruin Kirito's shirt. Four years separate us. Four years of age, but none of that matters now because a bond forged by blood bounds us all together tightening that a knot created by a professional knot tier.

My mind screamed at me begging me to find a way to escape the torture lingering in my future, but there wasn't a single option. Pain was waiting for me. Death was floating above my soul ready to pounce and devour me at any given moment, yet being here in this room with Kirito makes things a bit easier. He understands the many thoughts racing through my mind, and he understands the fear because he's gone through it. With this feeling comes a great sense of remorse. This isn't the first time my family has watched someone suffer through the games, and only two years separate the horrific acts of injustice created by the president of Panem. A harsh punishment reigns down upon those who break the law. It's all apart of the plan to turn us all into unified citizens brainwashed of our own lives.

When he pulls away, I feel my body clench as I try to balance my weight on my good leg. I raise a hand to my face wiping the tears away as he removes his eyepatch. I'll never forget the moment the knife impaled his eye in the finale of the seventieth hunger games, I'll never forget the hopeless feeling that quickly followed it, and I'll never forget the mixed emotions of happiness and sorrow as he left the arena in a hovercraft. But I keep my eyes focused on him fighting with all I have inside of me to remain calm despite the horrible situation, and I listen as he speaks of Elya Johnwayne. Knowing that someone with a missing eye can see the world clearer than anyone else in the world makes me wonder, yet it also brings Kirito to the point he's focusing on. He doesn't want me focusing on the arena or anything that may happen.

I can feel the tears starting to roll heavily down my face again as he keeps going on and on. His words echo through my ears bouncing through my skull before embedding inside the abyss of my mind forever. All he wants is for me to think about just waking up tomorrow. Not to worry about the day after that until it's here. To just focus on getting through the day before trying to look into the future. And yes, I'm always going to be afraid, but it feels easier knowing that I have Kirito by my side. A small smile filled with sadness twists across my face as I nod my head understanding every word he just said. "I'll just focus on today. Tomorrow is too far in advance to even look." I add quietly while shifting my weight between my feet. "I thank you for sharing that with me because I can see where you're coming from with it, and I'm going to do my best to not look far into the future." Yeah, I'm still afraid, but right now I just want to live. I want to be the child I've always wanted to be.
