A gentle breeze fills the air as the stars twinkle high above the shining lights below. The names of tributes ring through the air as the Capitol citizens celebrate the huge day tomorrow. My mind races as I slide down against the wall. My eyes flicker around the Capitol staring at the different lights, the buildings, the crowd of people standing several floors below, but not once does it make me feel uncomfortable. Tomorrow is a huge day, and I'm doing the best I can to not think about it, but my mind is there dancing around with horrible thoughts. Pain and agony await the twenty-four of us, death awaits twenty-three of us, and a life of pain and suffering awaits one lucky individual.

Drawing my knees to my chest, I rest my chin on top them taking in the wonderful sight that has been placed before me. Throughout my entire life I've wanted to see if the rumors of the Capitol was true just to find out if it was really as magnificent as the world made it out to be, and now that I'm sitting here on top of the roof at the training center, I must say the rumors couldn't compare to the splendor of it - it's a shame this is how I had to see it.

The fresh air feels amazing as it hits my face. Being trapped in the training center for the last few days has made me feel horrible. A life of training trying my best to learn the stations offered in the training center; I hope I mastered some of them, but my training score tells me otherwise. Surely the president wants a hit on me, and he'll do whatever he can to make it happen, yet I'm praying with everything inside of me that I can somehow manage to make it out of this alive. The less fights I get into the better. The less death I see the better. But I know the odds. I know the hatred people will have for me considering I'm related to Kirito; however, I'm not going to let it stop me.

I run my hands through my hair forcing it to stand straight up as I close my eyes allowing my mind to remember everything I'm seeing while reflecting upon my time here. I've made a friend in Cecilia the tribute from district eight. She's showed me so much, and she's taught me how to stand up for myself. I left a horrible impression on the gamemakers. A one. Not very impressing if you ask me, but there's nothing I'm capable of doing. I've talked to both Katelyn and Harbinger many times as well as my cousin, and I know what has to be done in order to survive, yet it all seems impossible especially when I feel like a weak animal facing a pack of hungry wolves.

A soft sigh escapes from my lips. I promised Kirito I would only think about waking up tomorrow. That I wouldn't think of anything else, but right now it's really hard to do. In just a few short hours, I'll be taken away from here and thrown into the depths of hell where it's every man for himself. I have no plan on what to do. I'm not sure if I can even survive the bloodbath, but the one thing I know for sure is I plan on making my family proud. I hope even if I die that they can still say they're proud of me. But the hardest thing I can do is say goodbye far too soon.

Kirito felt his ear's burning red as his body boiled internally even though a wicked wind whipped through the city of colored glass. Chants and cheers bolstered out of every open mouth all with names Kirito had spent hour after hour memorizing. For now they were all just names. Twenty four names with faces supplied to the nation by the generosity of the Capitol. Yet in only a night and a morning and the names would begin to turn into murdered children all with stories of their own. Sure Kirito knew each of them had their own lives before the games but now Kirito knew that meant nothing. Even the pre games were nothing more than make up and mentors guiding their star struck teenagers through the worst maze of nerves they had ever faced. The true tales every person in Panem would know and remember were going to begin only hours away, and the Capitolites reveled in it.

Colors blurred around Kirito as stampede after stampede of drunken fools prepared their bets in the odds building Kirito now stood in. Flashing brightly across the major monitor was the final morning lines odd as perfectly calculated as possible, and the person sitting at the very bottom due to a limp and a score of one? Iain. Kirito felt his stomach churn in distaste at the sheer thought of how poorly Iain was placed but Kirito knew better than to listen to the cursed boards he now viewed. Each number was nothing more than that, a number complied of other numbers that couldn't tell you the result of a fight in the arena for jack shit. Every last Capitolite would be betting against Iain and Kirito was fine with it, no he was happy they were. If Iain did even the smallest things to get attention in the games he would get the sponsors he needed, Capitolites loved under dogs no matter what their names or their districts were.

Stop lying to yourself.

Kirito felt his hands tighten into fists at the sound of Kiri's deathly whisper growing once again out of the darkness dwelling in his soul. Although Kirito had been doing his best to contain the rage and turmoil on the outside, his inside was nothing less than a vicious war ground. With every passing moment Kirito felt Kiri's advances upon his mind growing stronger and more aggressive. Kirito was well aware of the fact that he was now simply a ticking time bomb set to detonate on the next detrimental event that occurred. All Kirito prayed for was that when Kiri's greatest assault finally hit that he would have the strength to overcome it, but Kirito knew much of that rested on Iain's fate. If Iain were to fall in the arena Kirito fretted he would not be far behind.

With a sigh Kirito shook his head and swiftly made his way out of the rampant building into the just a vibrant street. Kirito nearly jumped out of his dark grey hoodie when a fire work went off just feet in front of him. All the flashing lights and mixing games announcements exploding around Kirito caused his head to thunder with pain. Thankfully Kirito's relief was partially restored when he returned to the training center whose walls only muffled the disgusting party littering the entire city.

Not before long Kirito walked into the District Eleven floor as the elevator doors slid softly shut behind him. Besides the party screeches echoing up from the streets below Kirito couldn't hear a single sound. Kirito figured Katelyn was probably resting while Harbinger was passed out wasted in his own bed. As for Carrita and Iain Kirito knew all to well that they were out and about some where. With the thoughts that ran like poison through their minds Kirito couldn't blame them. Kirito recalled his final night being the hardest, especially since he was alone without another soul in his same situation. In some ways Kirito was grateful he didn't have a district partner in his games, but in others it made him feel lonelier than he ever thought he could have felt. Luckily now Kirito no longer felt that way and he had to ensure Iain felt the same.

When Kirito went on to discover that Iain was in fact missing from his room and the entire floor in general he knew just where he would have gone. Several minutes later Kirito was standing silently behind Iain as the winds that kissed the roof glided gently through his hair. In the corner of Kirito's eyes he felt tears beginning to pool like an oncoming storm but he knew for Iain's sake he had to try to maintain his composure. Tonight was suppose to be their... no... Kirito refused to think of it as their farewell. For Iain and for himself Kirito would only think of the moment as a see you soon sort of moment. So with a deep breath inward Kirito took a seat beside Iain as he rested his arm across his cousin's shoulder. Then with a voice as light and calm as possible without even turning to face Iain Kirito whispered,

"I know, I know, you don't have to brave right now. That can wait for tomorrow. For tonight you are still Iain Miristioma not District Eleven's male tribute."

Fear radiates from my body sweeping across my skin. Every hair stood on end as I stared off into the distance watching the celebration continue below. In a way it made me sick knowing that in only a few hours these same people would cheer for the death of the tributes. But what can I do? To them I'm just another nameless face. One they'll soon forget the moment my face illuminates in the sky as the cannon blasts through the air the moment my heart stops beating. Yet here I am sitting on top of the world taking in my surroundings for only a moment as the wind gently flies by.

The same thought races through my mind over and over trapping itself inside me, and no matter how many times I try, I can't make it leave. I'm going to die. I'm going to die. I'm going to die. Kirito can't save me. He can't take away the pain I'm going to feel within the next few hours. I wouldn't wish it on him anymore because he's already gone through it once. He's faced the horrors of the Capitol once before, and he shouldn't ever have to face it again. But I know that with Kirito by my side, at least for the time being, I can find myself enjoying the splendors the Capitol has given me.

It's amazing. The sight. The Capitol. All of it as they prepare me for a game of slaughter, but not once did I ever stop to think about how this makes me feel as a person. They took the worst of me and turned me into something better. Something stronger. Something that I never thought I would be. From my time at the Capitol I have learned so much. I made a friend. She taught me how to stand up for myself. She taught me I was stronger than I ever imagined. She taught me how to be me even in this horrific situation. Back home in eleven, I never had a friend. All I had was my family because everyone else shunned me because of my leg; however, I have learned that despite having a disability, I am capable of accomplishing anything I set my mind to. I just hope it's enough to survive.

I feel his arm resting across my shoulder, and I can hear his words echoing through my mind - I don't even need to turn around to see who it is. Kirito has found me, and I can feel myself starting to break because his words ring true. Tears stain the corner of my eyes threatening to fall down my face at any given moment, and I fight against them doing my best to keep them from falling. I try to remain strong as I sit beside my cousin. And it stings knowing that tomorrow when I'm placed in the arena all anyone will ever remember me as is the district eleven's male tribute. All I want is to remain Iain Miristioma. But even that seems almost impossible.

Inhaling sharply, I find myself spiraling farther and farther down as the tears slowly fall down my face. Nothing makes sense anymore. I wanted to grow up and have my own family. I wanted to have my own orchard, but now it's impossible because in only a few hours my face may illuminate the sky. Keeping my chin on my knees, I allow myself to speak. "I always want to be Iain Miristioma, Kirito. I don't want to be remembered as district eleven's male tribute of the seventy-second hunger games. I just want to be me. Nothing else. Just me. Is that too much to ask?" My voice cracks as the tears flow faster down my face forming a pool below me, but I never move from my spot because I know if I look at Kirito, I'll become a sobbing mess, and I don't think he'll be capable of consoling me.
