A gentle flame licked the point tip of the soaked needle as she ran the lighter across the underside of such a tiny, stainless metal rod. Vibrating against sensitive ears, giving her a minor headache, she could practically hear the mournful wails, and it felt like a thousand pin pricks at once upon her eardrums.


The hot, dry air filled the trailer beneath layered curtains in an attempt to keep the sun out. A summer evening pressed against the metal of the antiqued trailer, setting it metaphorically aflame as if they were baking in tin foil on pavement. However, they'd all grown accustomed to the lowly lives that'd been chosen and made for them within the circus grounds. Living lavish was strictly for show, nothing more- they never tasted it on their tongues, twas only dirt that could be eaten if they'd performed only well enough. For them- it was a privilege to live in such an environment.


She never winced once when the flame surrounded her pressed fingertips, clutching against the sharp needle. Pain hadn't been a stranger, and she felt more intense burning sensations in her life time than a small fire that could do no harm.

"Shhh ... It'll be okay

... Deep breaths, Czar ..."

Her voice was a lullaby, singing cradle songs to whisk away pain even if for a moment. Setting the lighter aside on an old, rickety, wooden tabletop, which held her fortunes, she pressed the back of her palm against Czar's sweaty head. Heaving blew up her forearm and she encouraged his deep breaths, she was content he'd been persistent even from such injury. Applying pressure to the wound, Theory pulled open the swaying dresser on the bedside, pulling medical thread from its place. Throughout the years she'd been medically trained for incidents happening within the circus and its training. It was noted unorthodox, and they hadn't been allowed to leave the circus grounds even with fatal injuries. They could always just be replaced anyway.


Theory could've sworn the flame consumed her being. Wiping the sweat from her forehead, she pushed away the hairs that seemingly melted to the surface of her skin. The sun was the flame they'd been burning in all along, working without chilled air in the mid summer time- this was their own version of a terrestrial Hell. The screams of a lost lumberjack echoed through the trailer as needle knitted through layers of skin, sewing it back in place. It was a pain no one could get used to, like the fire against Theory's skin, even if they'd been through it a million times already.

"It'll all be over soon ...

Don't worry, just a bit more ..."

Silent seconds formed to minutes, which in unspecified time hit bone aching hours as the sun set and the night sky was painted a purple tinted black. White speckles shown through the grimy, dirt smudged windows behind curtains. Opening the slammed window wide awake from it's harsh sleep the cool breeze flowed through the air. Passing by Czar, resting upon the emergency futon, she sat beside the bed on a small couch waiting for him to wake. Removing her glass eye from its socket, she placed it in a sealed box, before wrapping a bandage around the whole. He'd been protective of her, and she promised in return to be nurturing of him, and so she waited all night for his first conscious breath to signal that everything would be okay. For in this place, blood doesn't matter anymore- all carnies are your only family.
