You are a survivor

You don't remember much of your parents, your birth ones anyway. You vaguely remember a man, towering over you like some kind of giant. You remeber him wearing shiny red clothes that glittered whenever he moved. He was never happy though. You can't ever remember seeing him smile once in the handful of times you saw him. Instead, he usually scowled, a permanent frown plastered on his face as he moved his arms around in wild gestures that both terrified and fascinated you.

You remember a woman, her face slightly more clear, her form slightly more distinct in your memories. She was happy, some of the time, sporting a youthful face, long blond hair so much like your own, and green eyes that matched your own and sparkled with each laugh. Where the man wore red, she wore blue, not so much glittering as shimmering with each fluid movement. But sometimes, her smile would disappear too, and her body would heave in great wracking sobs that caused salty tears to gush from eyes that had once sparkled.

You were too young to understand exactly why he flailed so violently or why she cried so hard, and why it only seemed to happen whenever the two were together.

You do remember, however, as posh surroundings and caring Avoxes were abruptly replaced with plain walls, strict adults, and other children. You never knew what happened to the two people whose faces were so clearly ingrained in your mind, only that they had been wrenched out of your life with no warning, leaving you in a strange place with strange people.

You were five at the time.

You are stubborn and persistent.

For four long years, you bounced between orphanage and foster home after foster home, as the orphanage staff tried in vain to place you with a family that would want you. However, you were "too rowdy" "too disrespectful" and "too rebellious" for the uptight, so-called perfect families you were matched with.

In truth, the man and woman from memory were still burning strong in your mind, and you would not settle down, not rest, not submit until the staff finally got it write and placed you back where you belonged. Time after time, you intentionally sabotaged efforts to rehouse you, as your attempts to find them through the orphanage were met with failure after failure.

Finally, as your fifth anniversary living in the orphanage drew near, you decided enough was enough, taking your few belongings from the orphanage and hitting the streets. If the adults couldn't find what you believed to be your parents, then by Ripred, you were certainly going to try.

For a nine year old girl, you did surprisingly well for yourself in the days you wandered the streets. You spent your days walking aimlessly throughout the Capitol, trying to find a part that looked familiar. You kept yourself fed from the food vendors, either buying what you could with your limited funds or stealthily sneaking away some of the produce when you got the chance. You spent your evenings curled up in some dark alleyway, out of sight from the general public, getting whatever sleep you could.

What you did not realize was that your disappearance had been reported by a frantic staff member to a local newspaper reporter, and in turn had been printed in papers all across the Capitol. It was less than a week after you ran away that an overly observant citizen had recognized you, and had promptly notified the authorities.

You were returned to the confines of the orphanage by an overly strict Peacekeeper, fuming and angry that your plan had come undone. Once you had returned, you wasted no time in creating a new, more foolproof plan of escape.

You never had the chance to execute it, however.

Within forty eight hours after your return, you found out that you were being formally adopted. Not by your supposed mother or father, as you had hoped, but by an old, wealthy, famous couple known as the Chrysolites.

As it turned out, your little escapade had made you into something of a news sensation among the people of the Capitol, and the media hounding couple had decided that you would be the next child to be adopted into their family, for better or for worse.

You are enduring and resourceful.

Like always, you made the best of a poor situation. Though you had been moved from the confines of the orphanage to the wealth of the Chrysolite mansion, you were still trapped against your will, and no closer to finding your parents than you had been to begin with.

You spent the next year enduring the subtle torture that you were subjected to as the object of the media's attention. Life among the media hounds, you soon found out, was not unlike living on a reality show. Every move you made, every activity that you took part in, every time you breathed, there was always a number of cameras flashing on you and your grinning adoptive parents.

You had never been an extrovert or an attention seeker to begin with, and the only way you kept yourself sane throughout the ordeal was maintaining the slim hope that somehow, somewhere, one of your parents would glance at the TV screen at the right moment, and would recognize you despite your torturous plight.

But alas, a year came and went with no mother or father appearing to rescue you from the clutches of the media. And eventually, your time in the spotlight was over, as the Chrysolites quietly shoved you into the background to prepare for their next adoption.

At first, you were devastated. No more time in the spotlight meant that the chances of you being discovered had dropped exponentially. On top of that, the heightened security and wealth of the Chrysolites was a double edged sword - now, it was virtually impossible to plot an escape like you had once done in the orphanage a year prior.

But as time went on and you grew accustomed to your new-found privacy (Chrysolite children were virtually ignored by both their parents and the media after their initial adoption, instead relying on a small army of Avoxes to raise the now-forgotten children), you slowly began to see the advantages that unlimited wealth and privacy offered.

As such, at the ripe old age of ten years old, you began formulating a plan to execute once you turned eighteen and could properly leave the house of your own accord. The first part involved studying in a certain field of study, in your case geology, to get a career in and support yourself while you worked on the second part of your plan: Finally learning the identities of the mysterious adults that had plagued your childhood dreams.

You are curious and inquisitive.

Eighteen years later, you find yourself staring at a computer screen in your office, not quite believing what you see displayed before you.

The age-old question of who your parents were had been solved and stored away years ago - your father was a socialite that had been engaging in an illicit relationship with your mother, who was barely into her twenties and lived in a middle class home. The former had decided he wanted nothing to do with you once you were born and adamantly denied that you had any relation, and the latter had been forced to give you up by her strict parents. Both were no longer in the land of the living - your father had been the victim of an assassination by a rival, and your mother had suddenly died a couple years after giving you up, supposedly of a broken heart.

No, what you had stumbled upon was fresh and new, striking you in your late twenties as opposed to your early childhood.

Your interest in geology had led to you getting a job as an intern to a geologist, and eventually a geologist itself. For several years, you lived a simple life, getting up, going to a fun job, working, and coming home. Though it was definitely a step down from the Chrysolite mansion in terms of quality, you enjoyed the simple apartment you resided in. There was something about the privacy and the independence that was substantially more enjoyable than the crowded, noisy mansion.

But right now, all that was background noise as you stared in disbelief at the computer readings. You had been chosen the ruins of the long-extinct District Thirteen to stage your next reading site, to see how the earth had recovered from the nuclear damage sustained nearly three quarters of a century ago.

Only the scanners had picked up something completely unexpected: the faint, subtle presence of subterranean activity beneath the surface of the old ruins.

Your breath caught in your throat and you looked wildly around before minimizing the results.

It seemed that the dead district was, contrary to popular belief, very much alive.

You are clever and tactical

You wasted no time gathering any and every bit of info you could on the former nuclear District. More often than not, you found loads of rubbish and bullshit, historical reports detailing its bombing during the Dark Days and conspiracy theories that each seemed more ridiculous than the last.

But as you continued digging, you eventually found proof of the mysterious District's presence. Covert, subtle infiltration tactics into Capitol society. More and more readings from your geological scanners that confirmed the underground activity beneath the ruins was no fluke. Papers hidden deep within the online archives that spoke of a mutual truce between the Capitol and the District.

Finally, after two long years of digging, you found the jackpot: a heavily encrypted, virtually secret database that claimed itself a recruitment site for a secret resistance originating from within Thirteen.

You spent three days and three nights pondering what to do with the forbidden information. There was no doubt in your mind that if you exposed the movement for what it was, you would likely be catapulted up into the ranks of the true elite of Capitol society. After all, the information still existed and hadn't been wiped by the Capitol technicians for a reason, and with real proof, you could single-handedly cripple the forbidden district and gain immense power in the process.

But as the third night drew to a close, one particular piece of information still bothered you. Further searching increasingly supported the theory of a pact between the two powers, one that was secret to all in the Capitolite elite save President Snow himself.

And if such evidence did turn out to be true and was hidden for a reason, then exposing it would be like signing your own death warrant.

Finally, you came to a decision.

And, like you had twice in the past, you started working on a plan.

You are wise and adaptive.

Your latest plan had three key steps: Covering up your tracks, erasing and altering your identity, and getting the fuck out of the Capitol.

Step one included wiping out years of painstakingly gathered data about Thirteen, destroying first the files, and then the devices that contained them. It included recalling your probes and calling the mission a failure, despite key information that could prove otherwise. It involved slowly breaking ties with the precious few you had grown to respect and adore throughout your life, ignoring the pain that came with it.

Step two involved changing your physical appearance and records in case things went south. You dyed your much-hated blonde hair a shade of brown, applied several tattoos across your body in secret, and started wearing prescription-less glasses in varying order leading up to the great escape.

Step three involved using the database to establish contact with the central power core of Thirteen and stating your desire to defect to their cause. Though they were skeptical at first that a seemingly ordinary geologist would want to leave her life of comfort and replace it with one of war, you eventually persuaded them that you were indeed not a secret agent, and that your desire to join was genuine.

Finally, you made your move. As the rest of the Capitol celebrated the end of the Quell and the scrawny boy from Eleven that had won that year, you stealthily stole a small hovercraft under the guise of darkness, and escaped from the only home you had ever known into the great unknown beyond.

You are a survivor

Today, you are a minor yet unique figure in the strange government of the exiled district. As the only competent geologist in the district and also a rare Capitolite defector, you were met with great interest by those in power, before being put to work that took advantage of both qualities.

Even after three years, you still find yourself getting used to the strict, clockwork lifestyle of your new home. You've lived in orphanages, mansions, and apartments, yet this home is like none of them. You've been an illegitimate child, an orphan, a media star, and an ordinary citizen, yet you have never been called soldier until then.

Despite that, as you work to overthrow the place that you once called home, you wouldn't choose to be anywhere else.
