Time can heal all wounds that try to pierce the heart with hurt. Each stabbing pain that cuts into the arteries alter your own way of life but in the end, you have to realize that scars will happen but to live is the most daring escape ever. Today marks the anniversary of Owena leaving me. One year, I have lived out in these forbidden woods alone and faced many obstacles on my own. It's not easy and definately not for everyone that might want to try to take this life path and not many can do it. I have been blessed that my path has lead me to this place. The abundance of life that scurry around at the bottom of this hill. The children that run around happily, singing songs of praise that the crops were good to them once again. The parents that hug their little ones when they send them off to do who knows what. Observing is my talent. I watch from afar, on the top of this hill just waiting for my moment to enter this unknowning district that I do not belong. No one belongs, in reality. We are just forced into a life we never chose except for me.

I wanted this life of freedom and it's been five years that I've been able to enjoy the crisp morning breaths and the fresh dew to settle upon my beard. The sound of the birds chirping as they land on my hammock and welcome me into their home and observe me just as much as I have observed them in return. My lips part slightly, grinning to the beady eyes of the little winged friend that flies off only a moment later leaving me by myself once again.

I stretch out with my arms, pulling the muscles to do my bidding as the new day has arrived yet again. Today, the township will look upon my features, I know and expect the keepers to grace me with their daunting stares as if they know who I am. I am IQ and I am of the land and have been missing from their sight. Hopefully, they expect me to be dead and any sign of my old district seven life will have been forgotten. After my father disappeared in the middle of the night one summer night, my mother went off in search of him. She never came back either. I spent a week with my auntie and the night before the reaping, I followed in their footsteps. I slipped into the night, taking only what I needed. I pushed my little legs over the edge of the window and inched my way down from that second story window. When my feet hit the ground, I took off running and never looked back.

My expectations of the forests welcome was never more wrong. Snakes and bugs taunted me with the thought of civiliazation and the heat of the next day sought to destroy my heart. If it wasn't for an angel of mercy, I would have found grace before the next full moon was to appear.

It's funny how life prepares you for the worse but keeps you alive just to show you more than you ever bargained for.

Right now, I bargain for food and new clothes to cover my back. I long for a fresh meal that I won't have to prepare and hopefully, I can get it in this new district that I have never seemed to find before. A new experience is about to happen. The wind is whipping across my face trying to tangle the emotion of excitement with that of curiosity.

"Welcome, IQ." My calm demanor softly relaxes my features the moment I slip through the fence and my small duffle bounces happily against my hip. The rest of my supplies quaintly tucked away in a cubby near the tree right behind the fence. It's contents covered with fresh debris that nature so kindly left behind.

The soft footsteps of mine own leave no trace of my previous path. That's the way it's suppose to be though. No trace to be seen as the future will always provide. Perhaps, I'll find something worth while when I'm here.
