wolves without teeth; petra x iris { blitz }

I walk into the little dining hall, avoxes lined up in an orderly fashion around the walls. It still sickens me to see what the capitol does to them. I had forgotten what was wrong last night and accidently tried to strike up a conversation with one of them. She cried. Not my best moment. I walk carefully towards where a huge buffet lines one wall, my eyes trying their best to stay averted away from all the avoxes in fear that K would vomit.

I grab a small plate and begin to place things on it. Anything I see colorful almost flies onto my plate. I want to try everything before I die with nothing. I move swiftly along the side of the buffet, my eyes lighting up at all the food the capitol hsd collected. In district seven, my family normally had enough to eat, but I feel their astonishment would be just the same or greater than mine at all the food piled up, ready for eating.

I kind of wish I could send some home, but I can't. It isn't fair.

I end up next to the girl from district twelve. Who begins to speak to me. I am stattled for a moment before responding. I had not expected any words or bonding between the tributes in fear of not wanting to murder each other. You would think the gamemakers would put up barriers against that.

"Um," I begin, still a bit startled before raising a finger and pointing to a silver pot labled 'Hot Chocolate.' "Well, if you want to try something, try that. I had some on the train here and it tastes delicious." I pause for a moment considering what to say next. "Uh, by the way. What's your name?"

The girl uses slow and steady hands to drag the intricate silver pot closer and closer towards us before her arms raise and the brown liquid comes pouring out, the divine smell making my mouth water. After the girl is finished with the pot, I slowly pour some out into a cup of my own before geny placing it back next to the Hot Chocolate lable. The smell wafts up into my face, following the steam, and my mouth begins to water. I decide to let it cool for a minute after remembering how I burnt my tongue at first on the train.

The girl begins to speak in a delicate voice. Petra Vipointe. Nice name. I think she is from district twelve, but I'm not entirelly sure. Now it doesn't really matter anyways. We are both going to die soon. Me sooner probably. The chances I'm going to be knifed in an eyeball or speared in the neck by some career like Justice Fray or District Four's pirates.

Petra takes a sip, and her expression warms me up inside. At least I could help someone find something new and good in this cruel place before I die.

Then she begins to speak again, and I avert my eyes. "Nah," I said, trying to keep my spirits up with a light hearted voice, but there was still an obvious wavering as I spoke, "I was being stupid. I wasn't really thinking when I raised my hand." I tried to put a small smile on my face, "At least I got to try hot chocolate before I die in whatever horric way the gamemakers have planned for me, so I'm all ready."
