WHEN OBLIVION IS CALLING OUT YOUR NAME

Of all the things that Natalie had been expecting that evening, a knock on the door had not been among the top of that list.

In fact, it was very near the bottom. Macaroon was out doing who knows what, and he rarely bothered to knock to begin with, and their escort had been pretty much AWOL since the train, not that Natalie could blame him.

So when the heavy, uneven knocking sounded against the door, she wasn't sure what to expect. Eyeing the door warily, she briefly pondered whether or not she had imagined it. After all, it was late, and in the time she had been here, there hadn't been a single visitor that hadn't been expected.

But then the knock came again, and curiosity got the best of her.

Putting her book down, she got to her feet and walked over to the door. She paused, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, before opening.

The unsteady, clearly intoxicated form of the boy from District Five greeted her, eyes unfocused and a stupid grin adorning his face. The all-too-familiar stench of alcohol smacked into her nasal cavity, and she instinctively flinched.

Alcohol and her did not have a pleasant history together.

But instead of lashing out, the boy simply spoke. Or attempted to, at least.

“Help mmme home pleashe?”

She felt something stir in her chest. Alcohol was most definitely a toxin, one that corrupted and controlled and transformed someone into someone they were not.

But as she kept needing to remind herself, it affected each person differently. It had turned her father into someone much meaner, much more aggressive.

The boy from Five just looked pathetic.

Quickly, she weighed her options. Five's floor was three stories below hers, which meant that getting him down there or even to the elevator would be a problem to begin with, as the boy was noticeably larger than she was. She briefly considered going to get one of his mentors, but quickly tossed that idea aside as well. Patricia Valfierno scared the shit out of her anyway, and she did not want to be around when she was annoyed or pissed.

So she decided upon her third idea, and took a firm grip of the boy's left arm with her own. "Come on in." she said quietly. "You can stay here for a while."

Yeah, sleep off the booze until you're in a state of mind to leave yourself. she thought, directing the boy to her bed. Cause Ripred knows what could happen otherwise.
