Inspiration

Hey,

Since getting into Dungeons and Dragons with a bunch of other members, I've been thinking about having something akin to the Dungeon Master ability to reward Inspiration points for the site Hunger Games.

In the D&D Manual, Inspiration is described as "a rule the Dungeon Master can use to reward you for playing your character in a way that’s true to his or her personality traits." As far as I can tell (and I know that there are more experienced Dungeoneers who can correct me), in the game Inspiration is a literal mental trait a character can use to be more successful in a certain situation or to get out of trouble using thought, but in the HGRPG universe Inspiration could translate to physical rewards, such as sponsorship money (from a Capitolite who was stirred by some hindering personality trait), an extension on Days to collect food or water (through a random event perhaps) or another incentive at the Gamemakers' discretion.

I think having an Inspiration system would help members to feel safer exploring their tributes' personalities without worrying about the consequences in terms of keeping them alive. I think it would also open the door to exploring character personality types which may currently be too hindering to a tribute's success, for example mental characteristics like severe antisociability which may prevent a tribute meeting allies or taking Training Stations, or a large set of phobias which would prevent them from being able to perform first aid on others, or even physical conditions such as asthma or allergies, which would make being in a certain Arena environment difficult.

If it would be too difficult to keep track of the actions of all twenty-four tributes in order to reward inspiration, there could be a submission system for actions within Games posts, like there currently is for requesting exemptions. This would mean that tribute-writers submit quotes of their Games posts to the Gamemakers when they feel inspiration should be rewarded. Alternatively, Inspiration could be its own training station, however this might be impossible as incentives to take other stations would certainly still be higher.
