She is a girl with many different names. Her close friends and her siblings call her Dany, her father calls her Dae, her rivals call her Fairburn, the girl who works at the apothecary shop down the street calls her Snow, and the other kids at school call her Nery. But her mother calls her Daenera, and only Daenera.

She has always wondered why her mother named her Daenera, when her siblings have much shorter, simpler names- there's Piper and then there's Zio, both far from the complexity of Daenera. Her mother says it's an old family name from her line. She's buried somewhere in an old graveyard, Mother says, but she has yet to take her there.

Dany imagines her great-great-great-and so on grandmother, Daenera, to look like her, all white-blonde and pale-eyed like almost the entirety of her mother's bloodline. Her mother's side is all snow colored, fair from their hair to their skin to their eyes, and her father's isn't much different. They too are a line of fair features, but they tend to be more golden-haired or dirty blondes with a less shocking skin tone and darker eyes. That side of the family shows more in Piper and Zio, though her brother has her mother's blue eyes.

In their small community, people seem to know a Fairburn when they see one. They are not a famous family like the Summits or the Tates or the Zodiias, but in the little Square they live in, people know them and their fair hair. People buy their pastries and their coffee in the mornings and request cakes for their childrens' birthdays as they have done for generations. Dany doesn't know how long the Fairburn family has owned the bakery, but from what her father says, it seems it's been forever.

Her parents take care of finances and renovations and the like, while she and her siblings do the manual labor and everything else. That's always how it's worked- the children work through their childhood and then when they grow up, they get to relax and do behind the scenes. Dany is the delivery girl via her lavender bicycle; Zio is the baker; Piper is the cashier. They don't mind the work, or at least, Dany doesn't, and Zio seems to enjoy what he does. Sometimes he'll make cookies or pastries for Dany when she asks, always with baby blue icing, her favorite color.

For as long as she can remember, that has always been her favorite color. She's painted her walls baby blue, and she even has a baby blue dress for Reaping Day. Dany has never told her family that it's her favorite color, but she's never really had to tell them something for them to know. And that's love, she thinks, when people know you so well that you don't have to tell them what your favorite food or color is, what shape you like your pancakes to be made in, or which season you prefer.

Dany's favorite food is buttermilk biscuits, her favorite color is baby blue, she likes her pancakes to be in the shape of bunny rabbits, and she prefers the month of February because its weather is between winter and spring. And they just know, because that is love and they love her.

She is very close to her family, namely her siblings. Sometimes she challenges her mother's authority and ideals, asks why, with a fiery tone, she can't wear dresses that are too short or sit with her knees open, why she has to stay inside after sunset. "Daenera," she'll chide in that stern you-better-watch-your-tongue-young-lady voice, and sometimes Dany will actually listen.

Dany does not take kindly to others being protective over her, as she sees herself as the one who does the protecting, despite her small size and young age. She has always been the defender of her doormat brother, Zio, who people don't dare lay a hand on, but are not afraid to sneer at him and turn him into a joke. He is a tall boy, and noticeably handsome, too, but his personality doesn't reflect his appearance at all. Zio is too kind for his own good, and to add to that, he is a pushover, or a doormat, as Dany likes to tease.

She's made a few rivals out of protecting her brother from those who like to pick on him, though only a scarce amount remain. Most of them had been scared off already by Dany, who valiantly protects Zio with iron fists, albeit tiny, and a sharp tongue. If you wrong those she loves, you wrong her, and she is not afraid to strike back. Although Daenera is a genuinely person with a good heart (though certainly not a heart of gold like her brother's), she relishes vengeance. It is only fair, in her mind, that if someone wrongs her, she gets to settle the score. It is her right; it is justice.

Dany is very well known at school. For one, for her beauty, which has captured the attention of more than enough boys and girls for her liking, but it is her kindness that made her popular and earned her friends. Although she could use her popularity to her advantage when fighting off her rivals, but she chooses not to, wanting to save the pleasure of revenge to herself. Daenera does not hate many people, but when she does, it is justified, and her hate runs as deep as her love for her family.

Nery Fairburn has three true rivals: the rich girl who has some unknown grudge against Daenera, the boy who still tries to pick on Zio and can't seem to get it through his thick head that she isn't afraid to kick him where no boy should ever be kicked, and the boy who has been her archenemy since the very beginning. This one is different from the other two- he has grown beyond just a rival. He is an enemy, one who doesn't seem to understand the humanity of kindness or the meaning of the word "no."

In all fifteen years of her life, she has never hated someone with such a burning passion. He hates her too, but his hatred cannot be compared to how much she has for him. They were always enemies, for as long as Dany can remember, and as their quarrel went on, it slowly became more and more vicious. But he took the fighting to a new level of violence when he held her against a brick wall and tried something she didn't think a teenage boy was capable of.

In return, after she managed to struggle her way out, she bashed his head against the wall, knocking him out cold. If only she had killed him, she thought, though that would have been quite the mess to clean up.

Ever since then, she swore to herself in her head that she would make him hurt until he begged for mercy, and even then, she would not yield. And Daenera Fairburn does not break promises.

It's only justice. It's only fair.
