She doesn't know she shines a little less until mother turns away. She doesn't know that suddenly her own shortcomings mean nothing anymore until father stops speaking to her. There is relief, buried within her chest, fearful of the change to bare its head. So she pushes it down, swinging harder in training, running further every day until her lungs ache and she throws up on the side of the road. It's not enough. She'd remind herself, stumbling back to her feet on shaking legs, muscles that refused to bare her slim frame. It's not enough. Her brain would demand, her mind willing her legs to just take one more step. Strands of golden hair falling free around her face, vision flickering across her grey eyes. Looks never mattered, not dimpled cheeks, or button noses, not fine bodies. Just the scars, the marks that proved she was a warrior. She'd always loved the training, of feeling herself growing stronger, becoming the career her parents wanted. But with Justice claiming the spotlight, it was harder to fill those shoes. Harder to be this person they wanted when they'd already found one and lost one. No matter how much she threw her knives or swung her sword she knew that she could never replicate it on a field, where it meant she'd have to kill. Her parents would never know, she was no Scout or Kaiser Fray, part of her was better than them. The child that'd kill if only to survive, because there was nothing more important than survival. She'd do anything to survive, it was how she managed to once more stand and continue onwards. To run until she couldn't feel her body. To better herself, to become invincible.
