The taste of the flower lingers on my tongue. I begin to wake with a refreshing take on the world. The pain I fell asleep with is lessened dramatically. Something startles me as a gift had falled beside my makeshift bed, this ground on which I had slumbered. I take it as a sign that I need to continue to move on as if nothing ever happened. Whoever sent this, is right. When I can, I need to keep moving and find another place that can hide me better than here. However, the rocks do offer protection, a more solid state technique. The anthem begins to ring out among the arena, lighting up the sky as it starts to show the pictures of the ones that had lost their lives in the blood bath. I remember there was four before I had been rescued and taken away but the fifth one puzzled me. It sounded off sometime after I had shooed my savior away. Will the pictures show in order or are they randomized. "Sabrina Larue." I look at her tender young face. She hardly is old enough to even have been here. She deserved to live but someone else thought that she deserved a fate worse than death. A hunger games murder. "Joselle Brookwater. She was the district four girl." I murmer to myself in whispered tones so that I wouldn't give away my location. How on earth is it that a career had met her end before someone like me? I've had no formal training. I've had absolutely no way to know that I would be chosen. Fate had delt me so many bad hands in the past year, that I should have taken note of it all. "Kimmie Yov-Maoi. Third to die." I look at her picture and then turn away for a moment. I remember watching her last moment before her death. I had a hand in her death as well although it wasn't me who did the worst. The way her hand was taken clean off from her by another. It was only a matter of time before I met my end but how did I not? My entire leg was taken, snapped right of with the blade of the sword. There is only two more. "Drake. Some guy named Drake." I barely even remember seeing his face at all. Just a lost soul that I am glad that it wasn't me even though it should have been. How is it that someone like me is still standing? Do I have what it takes to make it further in the games more than some eighteen year old? The last one puts a pang of guilt among my feelings. That face. Her face... that sweet disposition of a girl that tried to make friends with me. If only I hadn't refused her that day in the training center, she might still be alive. She might be beside me and I would be leaning against her side and she could have taken me out of the destruction that was in the cornucopia. However, she's dead now. She was taken away and given an early absence that she will no longer have to fear what's going on in this arena. I mentally sigh. "Five people are dead. 20 are left and 19 still need to die." I chew on my bottom lip and stand with trouble. I reach for the crutches that appeared sometime in my slumber and position them around my arms, letting them take the needed weight off my lower remaining limb. "Time to find more shelter. No one is going to find me. I will hide the entire games if I have to." My plan is strategized as much as I can. There's no telling what's going to happen once I move. I have no idea where I'm going but I know where I am not. I can't go back. I can't do as my name suggests. Is that why I am called Deja? Because bad will always keep happening to me as if it is going to be Dejavu all over again? Never go back to which you came. Always anew. "Atticus. Have you found the note?" I question. My travels are faster than I originally thought they'd be with the help of the crutches. My satchel is moving against my back with each step and my ball with spikes dangles against my hip, poking me since I have no way to hold it. "It's day two. You can seek out the second one." Something draws my attention to the bushes not far from me. The sound of rusting brings fear to my body and that's when I drop the crutches where they are and reach for the morning star, dragging it out of the bag faster than lightning. I stand at attention and wait until the unthinkable happens. I have to defend myself right now! |  |
