Her childhood best friend is a princess.

She is a Rathbone, one of the large, wealthy families in District Two. Mother says that they aren't like the others, that they're all about dirty money. Fawn never cared; her eyes were always focused on the little ebony-haired princess in the family.

"Hi, I'm Layton," said the Rathbone girl, who was holding a white daisy in her hand. She had the cutest smile Fawn has ever seen.

"Fawn," she replied.

"You're pretty, let's be best friends!" Layton exclaimed, and then handed Fawn the daisy as a gift. She remembers feeling her cheeks flame scarlet, and her hands became clammy with embarrassment.

And from that day forward, Layton Rathbone and Fawn Iverly were inseparable.

They were always going over to each other's houses and having sleepovers — that was always the best part of being such close friends. Fawn's mother didn't mind that the Rathbones had dirty money; although the Iverlys were also a wealthier family, they weren't pompously traditional. The Iverlys were more concerned with their children participating in Career training, rather than obsessing over their social status.

But that might be part of the problem.

The Iverlys are concerned with breeding the perfect soldiers. Each of their children are trained to be brave, with powerful wills and fists of steel — Fawn lives up to that, but she does have her soft spots, especially for the Rathbone princess.

But their destinies are different. They walk different paths, and Fawn knows it — but she chooses to ignore it, for now. Fawn was raised to be a soldier, to serve Panem as a Peacekeeper. She comes from a long line of Peacekeepers; both of her parents were, before they quit to raise the next generation of soldiers.

That is Fawn's destiny, too, and the same goes for her siblings. And Layton? She will probably grow up to be a drug lord like her parents, or perhaps she will just be an heiress.

Nevertheless, they walk different paths. Despite that, Fawn tries to enjoy the time they are granted together.
