The first knife hits the target.

I woudn't say I'm surprised. My arm takes the next knife and throws it. It hits my first knife and falls down on the floor. Rotten luck today. But I think that one counts anyway. It wouldn't have fallen if it wasn't for another knife there. I yawn and walk to the target reluctantly to pick it up. Nothing is more annoying than having to practice the same skills all over again every day, especially considering I nailed them all long ago.

My birthday is coming soon (in four months, actually, but I'm thinking about it already). I wonder what my parents will give me. It would be lovely to get a new dress or a pair of beautiful shoes... I am not really into clothes, though. It would be better if they gave me perfume or a new watch since my last one is broken. I would also love to have a cake with candles.

However, to live until my birthday, I have to live through the Reaping. The next one will be my last. I don't think they will pick me, and even if they will, there are enough fools here, in my district, who would be absolutely delighted to volunteer. Funny, isn't it? I have always been curious why some people are so keen to make a step towards their own death. Unreasonable idiots. Fortunately, I'm not one of them.

I pick up my knives and begin going back lazily. The third knife hits the target right into the centre.

Charm Jinx

Charm had made her way to the career gym early in the morning as she always did, hoping to increase the quality of the already rather impressive skills that she possessed. When she arrived there, she planned on using throwing knives, when she saw another girl that had had the same idea. She was taking knives, one at a time, and throwing them into the target in front of her. Charm, however, being the extremely competitive person that she is, decided that she wanted to do better than this other girl. She didn't know who the girl was, but she was still determined to show off, as she usually was.

Approaching the targets, Charm had three knives. She threw each one in succession, hitting the target in front of her. The first one hit the target in the center, and the other two were very close by in where they hit. Charm noticed that the other girl had quite some talent with knives as well, but Charm didn't like people thinking they were better than her at anything, no matter what it was.

Throwing a quick indifferent glance to the target on my left, I see another girl practicing the art of throwing knives. I almost turn away lazily, but all of a sudden I notice that she is not as bad as I expected her to be. It doesn't bother me much, though, because I know that the best one is not always actually the most talented one. I know how to make people think that I am the best and, well, it really does work. Besides, I am not any worse than her, I suppose my aim is even better than hers. I am weaker, it is obvious, but with the good aiming skills it doesn't matter at all.

I make another ideal throw, hitting the center of the target and look at the girl again. Pathetic. She is never going to beat me. Not in this life. I walk up to her and decide to start a conversation just to make sure that she is no match for me.

"Not bad. Not as good as me, though, because that is not possible. And you better stop wasting your time here, because I am the all-time boss of knife throwing."
