The table is laid for four; four pairs of knives and forks wrapped in dainty and delicate napkins my Mother said have been in our family's possession for generations. A collection of different sized glasses litter the tablecloth, my fingers nudging them into place. They align like the stars above which answered my prayers, they align like the stars above which fell silent when Ryan Summit died to save me.

It takes me a moment to realise four is too many. Sue Tate fell after a brave attempt at putting the world right, Daniel Tate put himself into the hands of the Capitol's worst and Marzanna——she's gone. I'd be patched up and buried as only a memory if it weren't for Ryan Summit: my saving grace. The world is taking and will continue to take, and we will pray that we continue to live. The world is playing a dirty game, but we are losing.

Our infinity is breaking, slowly but surely.

"It's just us now, Ike." I tell her. My stomach crawls with the thought and my heart falls like a bell from it's tower. I miss the feeling of being untouched, where the grim reaper was a stranger and not a friend, where stories always found a way to end with 'happily ever after'. "I don't like it."

"I can't let anything happen to you. We're sisters, we belong together."

We sit at an empty table. A hollow feeling sets in — cold and dark. Daniel's unoccupied chair still sits at the edge of the table, as it has for the past year. Neither Blair and I or Mom could bear to put the chair away; and so it haunts like a ghost at every meal, every time we pass by the dining room.

It is better than forgetting, I suppose. I don't want to erase the memory of my brother, no matter how much it hurts.

"It's just us now," Blair says. "I don't like it."

I don't either, I say to myself. Until another one of us dies. It's Russian roulette — Blair or Ike, Blair or Ike. One of us will go eventually, with our luck. You can't keep firing the gun in the hopes that the bullet is a dud.

"I can't let anything happen to you. We're sisters, we belong together."

I bite my lip and set my fists down on the table. My eyes trail along the carved edge of the dining table, and then they look up to meet Blair's. "They tried to take you this year," I say, bitterness sharp in my tone. "I just — they'll do it again, Blair. We're a tribute family, now."

"You know how much the Capitol loves that," I roll my eyes in disgust.

"even stars burn out."

The cupboard closes gently, failing to break the silence which has become far too familiar for the two of us. It is what binds us together now, and there isn't anything to fear in it. It's our everything and nothing; I know my sister like I know my own mind. Sometimes the silence is louder than our own voices and sometimes, that is okay.

I take a seat opposite Ike, realising that not even the ghosts in the room can bring back the sense of family unity. It's just—empty. An empty room and an empty heart. The space dedicated to the lost has become an endless void filled with memories which only make me angry at the world, at the Capitol.

"They tried to take you this year, I just—" My gaze droops to the table. "They'll do it again, Blair. We're a tribute family, now. You know how much the Capitol loves that." I shake my head, not wanting to believe it. But it's a fact; once is bad luck but twice is a habit. Three times and the audience might have found a tragic backstory to fall in love with.

I suppose they'd be right to think that, though.

"I hate it, Ike." My fist clenches and I feel a new type of anger now that I am faced with the cold, hard truth. "But there isn't anything we can do about it." I sigh.

"And that's the worst part of it." People won't forget our name, and it'll be etched into their head for all the wrong reasons.
