tyrone hope-less

His bones ached still, three- almost four- years after the latest loss of blood in his family. Sure, there had been scrapes and bruises and papercuts along the way, but nothing hurt more to Ty than the loss of the Hope family's flesh and blood. The loss of blood was on the side of the family he tolerated and enjoyed the presence of, not the side of his father, who he'd be too afraid to comfort.

Eva and Preston Hope, they were his cousins, and the people of his own age that he felt would appreciate his company. He walked without Saturn and without his mother. Tyrone used to be afraid to walk outside with nobody by his side, afraid that someone might steal him or even kill him for gain, but today he felt no reason to worry. He just walked.

His footsteps landed Tyrone to their front doorstep, and it only took a few moments for Aunt Abby to answer the door and welcome him inside.

"I'm here to see Eva," he said, and then his lovely aunt pointed him in the direction of which she was.

He approached her, quietly.

"Eva," Tyrone spoke quietly, hoping she wasn't preoccupied and his voice would become a disturbance. "How are you?"

It's almost been five years since Lily was snatched from us, and four since the loss of Paige, but to me it feels like I haven't aged more than a year physically, while mentally I feel twenty years older and am in a midlife crisis.

I sit on the couch, curled into a little ball, reading one of Lily's favorite books when she was still... you know... alive. The book and kings and knights, princes and princeses, everything a little girl would want in a fantasy life, unforunately it wasn't real, unfortunately I couldn't escape to that magical land.

I hear a noise, someone entering throught the doorway after Mom opened it. I hear a voice speaking to Abadadon before footsteps falling towards my direction.

Eva I hear a deep voice say as I look up. How are you?. I move off of the couch and respond with, I'm ok. You? I wasn't really in a conversation mood, but I still moved from the couch to try and give Ty a hug. I needed one right now.

Tyrone felt a little bit out of place just waltzing into his cousin's house without warning. The truth was that he was lonely, and family was the best outlet for him to avoid feeling alone. His mother didn't have a large number of relatives on her own side, so it was more tight knit than his father's side that had kids on overload.

Ty liked it that way, when he knew that a family was much more than friend by force. To him, it was without a doubt friend by choice. That's how he preferred it, a family who didn't just give Tyrone a dry conversation that lacked social substance.

He breathed in, and listened to his cousin speak. "I'm okay, you?" It was enough for Ty to feel happy inside. Sociability was something that not everyone could feel, so he tried his hardest to exercise the gift often.

"That's good, I'm fine as well," he said, peering over her shoulder. She was reading something, a book that Tyrone did not know. He didn't read much, so it was understandable. Art was always his preference.

"What's that book you got, Eva?"

Make substance, Tyrone, be social.

I hear my cousin speak to me in his deep voice. What's that book you got, Eva? He asks me, and I wilt inside as I realize per social rules I would need to tell him. I cast a glance at the book, and painful memories of Lily acting out different scene from it pass through my mind like frames in a movie.

"Oh, it's nothing much." I say quietly, wrenching my gaze from the book and turning to my cousin. "It was Lily's before, well... you know." I did my best not to break down in front of him. Why do wounds take so long to heal? I think it was the unfairness of it all. Lily being taken away then Paige so quickly following suit, it was like pouring salt on a severed arm.

I sigh, moving towards the book. "I'll just put it away one second." I lift it up off the couch carefully, moving my arm to bring it to a bookshelf nearby where I slide it in carefully.

He smiled when Eva finally began to speak more than just a dry conversation. She was startled by his presence, and didn't exactly intend on having the book out for him to notice. She claimed it was nothing, then continued on to talk about how it was Lily's before the Seventieth.

Nothing much? Tyrone couldn't understand why she would belittle something that gave positive memories of someone who was in her life for years. To him, it would be a treasure to hold onto one of Saturn's artistic masterpieces, and Ty hoped that his twin brother would do the same for him.

She then proceeded to put it away on the bookshelf nearest the couch she laid upon. It was like putting a book signed by a famous author upon a shelf only to be lost for years. Lily Hope was not meant to be hidden away, and neither was Paige. She may not have been the most sane person in the latest quell, but she deserved more than a bookshelf.

"Sometimes I wonder about Lily and Paige. Where they are now, if they're happy or not, he spoke, making his way to sit on the couch beside his cousin.

"Do you wonder, too?"

After I placed the book carefully away, I turned back to my cousin who had started talking again.

Sometimes I wonder about Lily and Paige. Where they are now, if they're happy or not. He says, and I twich slighty. This was kind of a touchy subject for me, every time Lily and Paige were brought up like that I always felt a bit empty inside. Do you wonder, too? He asks me.

I

back onto the couch, letting out a small sigh.

"Yeah, I do I suppose. Sometimes." I say quietly. "Paige is probably in a better place now, she didn't have enough time to become tainted."

I sigh again, "Lily on the other hand... well I'm entirelly sure flashing the whole of Panem and killing people are high up on a list of good behaviors."

Tyrone was never afraid to ask questions, even if they did make the person who had to answer a little bit uneasy. With Eva Hope, things were no different. Expression was the best outlet for someone to feel better, even after a traumatic event. Ty's mother had signed him up for therapy after the threesome of himself, her, and Saturn fled from their father's house.

Tyrone spoke about the abuse, his fears, his trauma. Even if it had been a childhood memory, people bringing it up would spark a match in his head like wildfire. Openning up to the people around him was the best way to cope, and he did so with the knowledge that the road wouldn't be easy.

Eva began to talk about her two now-late sisters, and how in the games, the first to die was the one who had substance to her life. She said that Paige was without a doubt in a better place, but evilness took over Lily in her final days.

Ty shook his head and stared at Eva. "I'm sure she's in a better place. It's not like she had a better choice. i'm positive she's with Paige." His words were filled with unfactual statements, but he hoped they were true.

He could only hope.
