Hunger takes form of many different emotions for different people. For Affron, that emotion would be anger. He knew that in a District as poor as themselves, hunger and poverty wasn't something to bat an eye at. The long pain of starvation riddled inside their stomachs wasn't anything special. It made the District have a depressed atmosphere, especially in poorer areas such as the Seam. Affron didn't enjoy being grumpy... although it wasn't an emotion he wasn't familiar with. His eyes narrowed in on a figure. A girl, perhaps the same age as him. It didn't really matter - all he needed was some money, or even better, food. Affron stalked up to her and reached into her bag, hoping for the best.

Today was not very good or very bad. Just fine. A small carrot for breakfast, school and an apple for dinner. But it wasn't over yet. I still had a few hours until the time when my dad usually came home from work. And I had no intention of wasting it on sitting on my bed and doing nothing. I decided to go for a walk.

Walking is always inspiring. When I look at people who are passing by, I notice many different things. Most of the faces are busy, angry, hungry, exhausted, desperate. Only children still have the strength in them to smile. Why do the smiles fade away from every person's face once they grow up? I am only fifteen and I have almost stopped smiling already.

The wind blows in my face and I begin to realize that it is really cold. Maybe I should go home after all. I turn around and suddenly bump into someone. It is a boy about my age and... Wait a minute, is it his hand in my bag? Poor guy, he is not really good at picking his victims, is he?

"You are wasting your time, mate. Unless you want to have a teenager's diary for dinner. Why don't you just ask for help nicely instead of digging into my belongings?"

There is really nothing in the bag except for my diary and a pencil. I don't like to carry too many things around with me.
