1/1/2017 -- book 3, entry 91

My God, this day is something perfect.

I woke up and the rays of sunshine filtering into my bedside window were hitting the glass, flooding my face in golden light, brightening my room right. It all just looked right, felt right--I could immediately tell from just the way it glittered that today was gonna be a good, beautiful day.

I had bread and jam with eggs for breakfast--even got to sit with mom, dad, and sis at the table at the same time, and we all had smiles on our faces! I don't know what's going on, but if that isn't something perfect then I don't know what is.

I decided to wake myself up a bit further and make this morning even better with a trip to the Square for another cup of cocoa. I saw two guys holding hands on my way there, kids laughing as they played tag, an elderly couple smiling at each other as they walked.

Everything is just so beautiful today, even the trees and grass look happy. I had to share this beauty with Laurel, so I did.

I went to the field near home that I go to every now and again for these entries, and there's flowers bouncing cheerfully with the breeze amongst the tall grasses. It's

"Is this your cat?"

I look up with brows raised in slight surprise at another presence here, being greeted by the curious eyes of this cute girl before she looks back at Laurel. The cat purrs happily as she nuzzles her head against the side of my leg.

I nod at this new face and potential friend, lips upturned in its own soft smile. "Yes--her name is Laurel. Do you want to pet her?"

My God, this day is something perfect.

A funny giggle full of emotion is her response to the question, and I can only raise a brow and do the same alongside her.

"Yes!" Her cheeks flush a soft, rosy pink as she exclaims her answer, the joy she exudes is really endearing. The whites between my lips broaden, and as the girl goes over to be beside Laurel and pats her on the head, I quickly return to my diary to make note of what I just witnessed from her.

I went to the field near home that I go to every now and again for these entries, and there's flowers bouncing cheerfully with the breeze amongst the tall grasses. It's such a pretty sight. A little while after I start writing into you does this girl approach me, asking about Laurel. She radiates happiness and innocence, I asked her if she wanted to pet the cat and she just bursts into bubbling laughter with flushed cheeks and an excited "Yes!"

The cream-and-white tabby continues to purr with contentment. I take a quick glance at the girl when she pipes up again, lending me a name to assign to her face. "I'm Sorrel," she nods. "It's a pleasure to meet you." I nod back at her in acknowledgment and reply, and though my smile reverts back to its softness it never fades.

"I'm Raleigh. It's nice to meet you too." I slightly tilt my head to the side, becoming a bit curious myself. Strands of my chestnut brown hair sway with the wind current and the flowers as I ask her the question, "What were you up to before you saw me? I didn't expect to see someone else around here."

"I like gathering flowers. I make flowers crowns out of them. My parents love them, and I enjoy wearing them too! I like going different places, finding different types of flowers. It gives me a variety."

This girl is truly something else.

The feather quill pen in my hand is a pickaxe, and she is a gold mine of sparkling treasures for happiness, for good things. It's as if all of them were spirits spread out throughout the entirety of Panem, but they all had someplace to go. They went their own ways to meet up together at that place, congregate into the form that is this girl. She is good things personified, the air in her lungs mixed with the essence of virtue and the blood pumped in her heart concentrated with an abundance of liquid magic.

Meeting her...

"You make flower crowns?" My eyebrows raise and I move my free hand to my chest as she talks about her crafty hobby, a breathy laugh floating into the air. "Oh my God, we should totally do that together! Where do you go for gathering them?!" I place the pen inside the page I'm currently on, shut the book closed and get up on my feet as it hangs by my side with a tight grip. Laurel quickly follows and looks up at me with curiosity, I take a quick look at her and smile warmly.

Meeting this girl is nothing short of a blessing.
