maybe we got lost in translation {bay/magus} blitz

His eyes have seen the sixty fifth games over and over. Small children running around with the fairy tales that they wanted. In his mind, the stories of the tributes rang true with every fairy tale, but real life wasn't a place for fairy tales. Even Saffron Lowe had learned that with her cousin's death.

When Bay approached him about lunch, he couldn't refuse. News had spread of the Katelyn's disappearance throughout all of the capitol. It had taken him by surprise that Katelyn managed to escape Snow's iron grip on her. A laugh had escaped him when he heard of it. Katelyn Persimmon still surprised him in every way possible. Getting kicked off the show the first day does that to a person. And yet, here he was, sitting in a restaurant, about to have a nice lunch with the winner. From zero to hero, that's what Bay had become. Popularity among the capitol skyrocketed for her. A surprise twist for all of them. Himself included. He had voted for her to stay with Katelyn. Learning what he could about her brought him closer to her.

From competitors to someone he would want to become friends with. Bay was just as surprising as Katelyn Persimmon. It was no wonder that she ended up winning Katelyn's hand. No tears would be shed for Katelyn Persimmon. It was her fault that Bay was hurting as much as she was. Bay's words cut through him like a blade that Asha had used to cut down Sacha. All he can do is push a hand through his hair and speak to Bay. A glass of water in his other hand as he slowly twirls it in his hand.

"I'm glad I did too. Looks like you need me from how you're talking."

A sip of water to his lips as he places the glass back down.

"It's not your fault, Bay. No matter who or what anyone says. It's not yours. If anything, I think Katelyn finally broke."

Hearts shatter simultaneously as he can hear Bay. The same words he had thought when Janet passed from a fire that still had no true cause. Love was the most powerful thing in the world. A person could give up themselves for someone who made them burn with a fire. They felt invincible from anything and everything. Except love wasn't a blessing. Only a curse lays in it's grasp. Loving someone meant having a weakness. He's learned this lesson time and time again. From his father to Katelyn to Janet.

Her words shatter his heart. The pain behind them only makes him wish to have been able to save her from the pain. Even with everything that happened, Bay is a good person. Someone he truly looked up to. His personal assistant would kill him if she knew what he was thinking. Miss Janet's sister had taken over. Her heart was there for her sister, but he could see the pain in her eyes, just like Bay's. A sigh escapes his throat as she asks for something harder. He speaks to the waiter.

"I'll take something stronger too. You know what I want."

As the waiter leaves them to their own devices. His eyes catches Bay's. If she truly was the Bay he knew, she would be stronger than him. Stronger in every. His voice escapes him as he speaks calmly, trying to soothe her.

"Bay. I think there is nothing anyone could have done. You tried your best and that's all Katelyn could have asked for. I think you didn't let her get away. I think you tried the hardest you could for her."

The waiter comes back with what Magus wanted. A martini that could ease him from the stressful work that he does. He continues as he twirls the glass.

"You couldn't stop her even if you wanted. I don't think anyone could have stopped her. From what I've heard, even the District Eleven victors have no clue where she's gone. I'm sorry Bay, but I think Katelyn is a lost cause now. You tried your best to be there for her. That's all Katelyn would have wanted."

His eyes have seen broken hearts and crushed dreams of different types of people. He's crushed people before by fighting for his name and company. His father's legacy was him and he fought for his way to the top. Hearts and dreams were shattered in the process of creating a life for himself. Bay was broken and not the woman he had met during the bachelorette show. Things change over time. He's become stronger since being booted out of the show by Katelyn. He didn't need anyone's approval, but his own in his work and deeds. He did what he wanted as long as it stayed within reason.

The martini was exactly what he needed. Watching Bay as she drinks the large vodka makes him smile softly. It felt like forever since he's felt the slight curve of his lips. His mind screaming for him to not hold onto someone who would only become a weakness later on, but she was hurting. Her heart was shattered by a victor who vanished like she never existed in the first place. Clip after clip of watching snowy battles and the blond fighting for her life. He broke the tape of Katelyn Persimmon after Janet died.

Bay's cracking with every word. He needed to hold her together. He wanted her to not feel the pain he's already suffered through. Too many times. Too many broken promises that he remembers.

"It's not too much to ask. Unfortunately, life isn't like that. None of us get happy endings. I learned that a long time ago. Katelyn is a fool for leaving you."

A smile pulls from his lips again as he raises the glass to his lips. Katelyn was a fool for breaking all of their hearts. They would all bounce back to normal eventually. That was what he hoped for at least.

"Helpless doesn't look good on you."

They were fools. They always had been fools. Magus had figured that out since the first day of the bachelorette, when he was kicked off. There was no real love, only a facade of something that Katelyn could never give to anyone. Her heart was somewhere else that none of them truly knew, not even the contestants. Bay was the perfect example of what Katelyn left behind. He couldn't imagine how the other District Eleven victors were doing. Too many tears had been shed for Katelyn Persimmon. Who made her the keeper of all of their hearts. Bay's words struck a chord in his heart.

Love was fake. A weakness of one's heart that allowed others to crush your heart. Bay was learning that since Katelyn's disappearance. The alcohol in his glass tasted so sweet in the moment. The nice and smooth liquid that flows down his throat and sets his stomach on fire. A nice warm through his body. All he does is frown as Bay finishes speaking. The adoration clear in her worry and sorrows. Helpless girls don't look good. The real Bay needed to come back. The one who gave no crap and wrote intense articles. He's read most of her work and has been very impressed. All the contestants had been surprising. Most of them, except the one that never showed. Whatever her name was.

"I'm a fool too. I adored her just as much as you did. I put her on a pedestal of lies. My image of her was so off from the real thing. I lost myself in fantasies. I can't imagine how broken you feel. I'm sorry Bay. That you lost her and that you gave up so much for her."

A frown pulls at his lips as he rubs his thumb on the glass in his hand. A gulp of the sorrows that he had once faced. The kick off of the show. Janet's death. Everything he's ever did wrong grabbing him by the heart. His throat feels both dry and sore, but in the end, he has to play damage control. Carry the broken pieces of Bay with him and help her through whatever she needed him for.

"I'm so sorry. I'm always here for you. I hope you know that."

A simple burn eases their broken hearts in the only way it can. He's been through it already. The talk of what if he had done something better. Janet wanted him to get out more than he had been. She was the reason that he left the company for a stone cold broken heart and flames that took his only Eden away from him. There's a fire that licks at his stomach as the alcohol warms him and her words come to his ears. Her eyes staring into him with an understanding of both of them. They've been through the same situation, but his was more of a ripping off a bandage right away than her slow peeling.

It stung her.

He could see it.

"Thanks, it means a lot. Funny how after everything, we're still just a pair of bachelors."

A sad smile pulls on his lips because it's true. She lets out an exhale of laughter as he thinks of how they got there. It all started with a date and ended with a missing woman. They were alone and both feeling broken on the inside. He lets out a small laugh of sadness from his lips. Bachelors and loveless. Stuck in a broken loop of clip that keeps going over and over again. A record of a scene that never truly comes to life again.

"I guess this wasn't my happy ending. But it'll come, I'm sure of it. You'll get yours too."

Happy endings were meant for them, but they carry scars that not every capitolite could carry. They were famous int heir own rights for their work, but no one could compare to the scars that lay upon their hearts, no matter the size, big or small, no one would understand it. Katelyn Persimmon had left them like wounded souls.

"Is it bad that I want to get so drunk I never remember her again?"

All he does is take a swig back as he lets his words come next.

"I hope we find our happy endings. It doesn't happen everyday though."

Hearts break, but friendship grows.

"No, it's not bad. Do what you have to. I've already had my drunken nights. You deserve your own too."
