Life was simple once. It was easy to stumble along its path with a lit candle. Although limited, the candle provided the light I needed for safe passage. But the light didn't last long, and the candle burnt out. It fell from my hands with a start and spur of movement. I saw it spin for a second before vanishing into the shadows of my surroundings. I scrambled after it. I sobbed as I searched. Yet I never felt the soft structure of its waxy glaze again. Humans are like that, we hate change. It was so swift and I was so unprepared. I didn't like the dark, and I still don't.

I still remember that day.

The winds were racing one another through the alleyways while the normal stacks of smoke were spinning though the sky. The sun was softly smiling from behind a blanket of grey still transforming to white after a summer's storm. I was only six and school had long been over when I returned home with my eleven year old sister Raiya. The house was empty as always while our parents were at work. I went to the windowsill and started to draw while Raiya made dinner. Everything was normal, until it wasn't.

Mom got home first with a frightened expression staining her face. Outside the house there were shouts and screams. It was then Dad burst through the door and the candle burnt out. You know those moments where life seems to stand still? I felt frozen forever. All I saw was the fear on Mom's face, heard the scream from Raiya's mouth, and felt the insanity spilling from Dad. Then time continued to turn. Mom fell to the floor from his fist, only then did I begin to cry. It angered him even more, but before he reached me Raiya stopped him only to be slammed as well to the floor. I was next.

What happened is when I saw the candle spin for a second before vanishing, saw my life like it used to be flash before my eyes. But the physical pain never struck me because his body hit the floor before it could. Time froze again. Mom stood shaken and bruised behind him an iron crowbar wrapped in her hands. She killed him. Time unfroze. I began to sob scrambling for the candle I had lost.

Things only got worse from there. Although Mom was proven innocent in terms of self defense and of familial defense she, and the family, were never the same. Apparently Dad had some kind of mental disorder, apparently he thought we had killed his family. Irony is a cold hearted creature. Oh and then something even more wonderful happened, they tested all of us. You know, to see if we were all mentally stable. Surprise, we weren't. According to the results I had/have the same disorder he did. Dissociative Identity Disorder. According to my Mom I had been showing signs since I was four. According to my Mom who thought I was always messing with her or playing, I had a whole other personality. Her name was Ariel. She's still around today in case you're wondering, but anyway, back to my story.

Learning this information about me tortured my Mom. Everyday she was scared I would snap like he did, strike out like he did. She couldn't handle the stress, so one day she decided to ready a bath for me. That same day my own Mom attempted to drown me. Raiya walked in just as I was fading to black. Quite honestly I don't remember the next, all I do know is I've never seen Mom since. Raiya and I became the two newest additions to a rather rancid Orphanage.

There we spent about a year until we were separated. A family adopted me but refused to take Raiya because of her older age. To this day I haven't seen my sister yet. As for the family, they were nice enough. We weren't well off but we got by. The best part though was they had no idea about my disorder.

Up until the age of eight my main personality, or myself I think, was only shown to them. They only saw a girl who was reserved yet thoughtful. A girl who did all her chores without being asked and smiled when she was complimented. Sure I didn't say much but the pictures I drew said everything for me. I was their little artist who was so gentle I wouldn't even hurt a fly. I just did whatever it took to stay out of trouble, I couldn't take anymore loss.

When I was eight though, my disorder began to show itself again. I didn't know because that's the fun thing about it, you don't realize when its not you. You can't put the pieces together of the time you missed unless you remember getting ready to school and suddenly schools over. Only in time strict circumstances do you realize you've been gone. It's terrifying. Anyway, I didn't know Ariel was back until one of my two new brothers told me about her. I panicked. I ran.

I stopped at a park that night, why I don't really know but I sketched for hours until the sound of a voice pulled me back to reality. My adopted Mother held me sobbing. She asked me why I ran and I merely responded with that she knew why. She did something unexpected next. She laughed. She said it made me special. I didn't feel as much of a burden any longer. The burden of believing I too would one day snap like he did, lose control like he did. I embraced my uniqueness.

Since that night things have changed quite drastically. For one I'm sixteen now and share my body with three other people. Ariel, Courtney, and Muse. What I know about them I learn from my friends and my family. I have notebooks for each one of them listing each of their traits and the things they do. They fascinate me. We all share the same blinding blonde hair and dense brown eyes. We share the same skin color and large lipped face. We even have the moles and freckles. Yet we're all so different. I would tell you more about them but, I shouldn't speak for them. We're individuals. A fact I've learned to accept.

Life has been simple. From the beginning everything has always been easy. I was born into a wealthy family who loves me unconditionally. In fact, they proved this when they sent me to live with my cousins when I was eight. Mother and Father both had to move to a rather dangerous area for work so they didn't want to put me at risk. If that isn't parental love I'm not sure what is. But then again my cousins have been great, raising me as one of their own. In a way, its like I'm their daughter too.

One part of my life which has been a little odd though is I've been mistaken for a girl named Ophelia far more than a person would expect. Sure now and then someone might get your name wrong, but I am talking about on a daily basis. I show up at school and its "Hey O!" or "Ophelia wait up!" from people I don't even know. Honestly I think there might be a doppleganger of me lurking around the school halls. Still I never let it bother me, getting worked up really isn't my style. I usually smile and reply with "Nope but maybe try again tomorrow." Yeah, I can be a bit sarcastic.

There is always one person though who never gets my name wrong. Whenever I go to see him his eyes ignite with the sweet sparks of recognition. His smile always makes my heart hold a beat until he says my name with a near shout, "Ari". Jayson never mistakes me for anyone else, its impossible for him, its why I love him. He treats me as though every time he sees me its the last time. He's my world along with the music we make together.

I was fourteen when I first met him. Get this, the boy was playing a trumpet alone in a foreclosed building when I happened to be walking by on my way home from school. Naturally I was drawn to the music and found him there. At first I just watched, yes creepy as hell, until I finally got an incredibly cheesy idea. I pulled out my guitar and strummed along with him. I'm pretty sure that's the only time I've ever heard him scream that high in pitch. Our friendship only grew from there.

As the next two years went by the closer we became. To this day I still write songs that we each play and he still stays by my side despite the dark moments. Even my Aunt and Uncle, as well as my cousins, love him. Whenever I bring him home they always smile as though its been eternity since they've seen him last. This all might seem really corny but its what I know, what I love. He loves me even though I am a bit out of the ordinary. I buy clothes I can't remember and get hair cuts I can't remember, to be quite frank my memory is shit. But it doesn't matter to him, I'm just Ari and he's just Jayson.

Life couldn't be simpler.

Life can be a pain in the ass. To start, I've always had a rough going. Both of my idiotic parents were drug heads. Day in and out constantly hooked on whatever new craze was sweeping by under the peace keepers' noses. To this day I'm surprised neither of them overdosed, oh wait no I'm not because I was the one preventing it. Taking their drugs, hiding them, being smacked and hit because I did and they knew it. Oh but here comes the big shocker, they both got themselves arrested since they were caught by the peace keepers. They got me thrown into an orphanage so thanks again to the wonderful upbringing I had until the age of ten.

My next home was just as great. The kids smelled and the clothing was torn but there was one thing about that hell hole I used to my advantage. The kids who ran that place were weak, they lacked what it took to be in charge. So I took it. Sure I became the biggest bully but what did anyone expect a kid from a couple of arrested users? That I would become some cheery happy human being? No. They screwed me over and screwed me up. Might as well use what they taught me, that being aggressive gets you what you want. That orphanage will never be the same. Alas by some "miracle" I was adopted. Who the hell adopts a kid like me? My family apparently, but I refuse to take their last name, Parks, don't be ridiculous.

To be straight forward, as always, I don't know why they haven't returned me yet. It is so blatant that they hate me. We literally fight every day. Their disappointment in me is suffocating. Constantly they scream about the poor decisions I'm making with my life. They hate the gang I'm in, they hate the things I smoke, and they hate the people I bring to my room. Granted I'm sure this is not what they wanted, but then again didn't they know what they were signing up for when they read my file and met me? I still haven't determined if they are illiterate so I'll get back to you on that one.

They even hate my style. They hate the fact that I wear black leather, intense make up, and odd hairstyles so much they even have all there other girly clothes all in my room to deter me. How could they not have realized this is who they were adopting? Either way I don't let them damper me, if I want to look sexy and scary then I will wear whatever I damn want to wear.

Outside of family school is not a thing. They want me to go, and just no. Instead I hang with the gang. We aren't really an organized gang or else peace keepers would be gunning us down, but we are deffinently delinquents at the very least. We smoke, we ride in our tinted window cars older than our houses, and occasionally stir up some trouble in the streets. Sure we've each spent our time with the peace keepers, but its better than living a dull life like my family wants. Also, my main man is in the gang, Hanley. Now that's a man who can make you feel like a woman, and with me being eighteen that's just what I need. He buys me fancy things from the things he... borrows and then sells. He does everything for me, and I do whatever I can to prove how much he means to me.

Anyway I think I've made my point. I might be stubborn and hotheaded with one hell of a bad track record but its just who I am, and I am not changing who I am. So yeah, life can be a pain in the ass. Enough said.

Life is full of lies. I'm an observer, a watcher. I've seen the wickedness of woman and the manipulation of man. At the age of twenty two I've seen more than most because I've paid more attention than most. You see, I'm not the outgoing type. In fact, I'm actually mute. It wasn't a choice I made but something I was dealt at birth, when I try to speak its just noise. At first it was frustrating, but then it gave me the strongest power I poses. The power to see right and wrong, and the power to correct it.

When I was six my Mom gave me my first journal, I wrote down everything. The colors I saw to the things I heard. I was young and innocent at the time. I didn't realize the strength my sentences could carry or the effect they could have on those I shared them with. When I had filled the first journal I showed it to my Mom with pride, she asked to read and I obliged. By fate she read a sentence I wrote on a page I wrote while listening to my Dad and a woman speaking. That night she forced him from our house and I've never seen him again. It wasn't until later on in life I put the connection together that I was the catalyst to my parents' separation.

As I grew up I became more and more invested in my studies. Although I couldn't speak I could excel in whatever I put my mind to. I held the highest grades in nearly all my classes and I hold the fastest rope climb time at my school. However, I didn't stop there I just continued to pile on the stress. I started a school newspaper and became its editor and chief. Luckily the hunger games never claimed me and I was able to graduate my high school at the top of my class. Now I work from home as a private author hoping to change the world with anything I write.

Now listen, there is a thing about my writing you should know. Even if I'm writing a fiction I connect it to a problem I see in society, an imbalance I spot between justice and criminality. If there is a secret I see or a deed done which shouldn't occur I make it my mission to let it be known. I might be hated by many for revealing things from my observations, but it makes me the most honest person I know, and my family agrees.

Okay, so I'm certain you are probably wondering what I mean by family, right? If not, sorry I'm going to tell you anyway. I no longer live with my Mom because she died when I was thirteen. My Dad never came back to claim me so I now live with a family who adopted me, a lovely couple with two sons. They are all very nice and dear to my heart, but I can't help the fact I feel like they are hiding something from me. You see, a lot of weird things happen around me. People call me the wrong name blatantly at school which my parents some how still make me go to(weird right?), there are many pages of writing in my hand writing that I'm certain I've never written all throughout my room, and there is even clothing I'm certain I don't own(like who the heck wears black leather?!?!). I think maybe I sleep walk or something and that's what they are hiding from me, but one way or another I'll discover the truth, I always do.

So yeah that's me, I figure from the picture I've attached you know what I look like. As for clothing skirts and tank tops are my life savers as well as summer dresses. I might be quirky, quiet, and over observant but unlike most of society I don't have fear in acting on what I believe. I am going to make the world better, even if life is just full of lies.
