Valfierno was a household name in District Five. Every detail of Patricia's family - or lack thereof - had been broadcast to the citizens after she had won the 68th Games, and for many years afterwards. But fame is always fleeting, and in recent years they had dropped off the map as the Capitol moved on to newer, flashier victors.
But she was still remembered as a tribute who had once tried to escape the arena. Which meant, he thought with a slight smirk, that fame or not, the Capitol would not be favoring her family to win. Perhaps instead someone... older and steadier. Like himself.
Still, it was good practice to meet with as many candidates as he could, if only to generate plenty of material he could give the media to spin it in his favor.
"Miss Valfierno." He nodded his head at her and stuck out a hand to shake. "I can see that you care a lot about the district's drug problem. And I must admire a young woman with such a strong stance on public safety."
Smile at her, even though he can't see the druggies as helpless as Miss Valfierno portrays them as. Everyone is responsible for their own choices, after all.
"But you must agree that not everyone is an unwilling victim. Many drug users abuse their kids and destroy their families in their selfish search for drugs, and we cannot turn a blind eye to those children. If we target the dealers, however - then by sussing them out and eliminating the supply we can eliminate the problem at its source."
