{Sing for the Common Man} [Kaplan]

Folks were going to be heading to the polls soon, and Willow Ann couldn’t rightly say just how the election was shaping up. She figured that most of those that would be pulling the lever or hitting the button (though likely just writing it on a piece of paper and dropping it into a bucket since most of the machines didn’t seem to work) were going to be voting for district ten’s victor. If district ten was anything, it was set in its ways. Mace would make a good mayor, for certain, but she hoped the folks would at least consider the type of leader that she would be.

She got the idea to bring on board some of the older families, those that Mace might not have been so easily able to convince. Some hope was found that she’d managed to have a 50% approval (she was surprised so many people even knew who she was), and that she raised $1,000 whole dollars for her campaign. Elias had wanted to spend it on sweet pies and a new bunk bed, but Willow Ann had invested it in banners, buttons, and the Round Up she had organized.

From all her door knocking, she heard whispers of a rather long-standing family thinking about endorsing one of the candidates, and, sure as the sun shone overhead, Willow Ann decided to give it a try. She made her way one afternoon with a pie in hand (because what was Willow Ann without one of her famous pies?) and smile on her face. She gave a good knock at the door, and stood, ready to do her best.

“Hello, I’m Willow Ann Lexington, and I’m running for District Ten Mayor. Would it please you if I could come in a spell and tell you about my campaign?”
